EPT Vienna Day 1b Primed to Host a Massive Field

Welcome to Day 1b of the European Poker Tour Vienna Main Event sponsored by PokerStars.net. This is the third time Vienna has hosted an EPT and it is back on the Season 10 EPT schedule following a three year hiatus. The venue is the truly stunning Hofburg Palace, the former imperial residence in the heart of the Austrian capital.

A total of 341 players started day 1a but we are expecting a huge field for the second flight with numbers predicted to break the 800 barrier and beyond. Registration is open until the start of play on day 2 for this €5,300 buy-in Main Event so final numbers won’t be confirmed until Tuesday.

The combination of a stunning venue, beautiful city and the right time of year seem to have hit the sweet spot and the excitement is building to produce a truly memorable poker tournament.

Some of the big names that have already been confirmed for today are Team PokerStars Pros Liv Boeree and and Jonathan Duhamel. Full Tilt Poker Ambassadors Dermot Blain from Ireland and Andras Nemeth from Hungary are also on the list of entrants.

High stakes online legend and Full Tilt Poker Professional Victor “Isildur1" Blom is taking a break from the online nosebleeds today to make an appearance at the real felt.

Following the recent introduction of the Flipout tournaments structure on Full Tilt Poker a live Flipout tournament was introduced for the first time at an EPT and today will see the winner of that event, Felix Schulze take his seat.

With centuries of history behind this magical city can EPT Vienna produce that magical two time EPT winner? By the end of today we will know who will be in with a chance of doing just that, and by the end of the week we will have a champion.
Cards are in the air at 12 noon local time so join the PokerNews live reporting team for all the action over the eight levels of play today to see who can survive, who falls short and who can end the day with the biggest stack.

Katchalov and Jedlicka to Play Eureka High Roller Heads Up on Tuesday

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Day 2 of the €2,200 Eureka High Roller, which saw 66 players from a 455-entry field, played out on Sunday. All of those players were looking to capture their share of a €882,700 prize pool, but three of them ended up leaving empty handed as only 63 spots were slated to get paid.

It took nearly nine hours before the final table was set, and then the first elimination from the final eight, which ended up being PokerStars sponsored Dominik Panka, didn't occur for four hours. Eventually five others fell before play was halted for the night.

That means EPT4 Barcelona finalist Niki Jedlicka and Team PokerStars Pro Eugene Katchalov will return on Tuesday at 9.30 p.m. to play down to a winner. They have opted to take continue on Tuesday so both can play Day 1b of the Main Event today.

The pair already cut a deal in which Jedlicka, who holds a slight chip lead, is guaranteed €127,600 while Katchalov has locked up €121,700.

Final table results so far:

“Shuffle up and deal.” announced the Tournament Director. On table 34 sat two players Ziga Jamnikar, a PokerStars player from Slovenia, and Full Tilt Poker Professional Viktor Blom. “Are we going to play heads up?” asked Jamnikar? “Three minimum.” confirmed the dealer. A few minutes later Alexander Ivanov joined the table and action began.

Jamnikar opened on the button for 250, Blom folded his small blind and Ivanov made the call. They saw a flop of {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}. Ivanov check called a bet of 250 from Jamnikar and they saw a turn card {5-Diamonds}.

Check call again from Ivanov for a bet of 550. The river was the {2-Hearts} and both players checked. Jamnikar turned over the {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} and won as Ivanov mucked.

Blom opened from the button on the next hand for 250, Ivanonv folded and big blind Jamnikar asked him “Have you looked?” Blom nodded and Jamnikar folded but they would tangle in the next hand.

Ivanov folded the button and Jamnikar opened from the small blind for 250 getting a call from Blom. They saw a flop of {q-Spades}{7-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} which both players checked. The turn card was the {5-Hearts}.

Jamnikar led out for 325 and Blom quickly made the call. The two players saw a river card {2-Spades} and when Jamnikar continued for 550 Blom released his cards.

Markus Golser: An Austrian Legend

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

Markus Golser has been one of the most prolific Austrian poker players with live tournament cashes dating back to 1996. This week Golser looks to reclaim some of his international fame, as he hasn't been a regular on the circuit for quite some time.

Back in the old Full Tilt Poker days Golser was one of the biggest winners and regulars on the highest stakes. In the summer of 2008, during Golser's hay day, he was up $1.8 million on FTP winning most over $700,000 from PokerStars Team Online Isaac Haxton.

Golser always specialized in Pot Limit Omaha, but his biggest live result came during the 2007 European Poker Tour event in Prague where he finished fifth for €151,800. The fifth most successful Austrian live tournament player of all time has EPT cashes in Monte Carlo, Sanremo and Baden, but also 10 World Series of Poker in-the-money finishes.
