Volatile Start Denies Lodden Third EPT Final

Nível 13 : 1,500/3,000, 400 ante
Johnny Lodden
Johnny Lodden

Johnny Lodden was for most people, the only familiar face left in the Main Event field (he was also the only Team PokerStars Pro remaining). But then, some say that the penultimate table is typically a Lodden graveyard, the place where Lodden fans go to cry. Perhaps his departure wasn’t that surprising after all? The PokerStars blog reports here.

Two Eliminations Just Before the Break

Nível 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Dimitar Danchev

Two eliminations took place just before the break.

In the first, a player raised and Dimitar Danchev got the last of his chips all in on a flop of {4-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{5-Clubs} holding the {k-Clubs}{q-Clubs}, which was in bad shape against the {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} of Team PokerStars Pro Theo Jorgensen. The turn and river both blanked, and that was all she wrote for Jorgensen.

In another hand, Ronny Kaiser three-bet shoved for 70,000 or so from the small blind with {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs} and received a call from Oleh Okhotskyi, who held the {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}. The board ran out {5-Hearts}{7-Spades}{9-Spades}{7-Clubs}{q-Clubs} and Kaiser was felled just shy of Level 13.

McDonald in the House

Nível 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante
Mike McDonald
Mike McDonald

Mike McDonald opened the betting for 5,500 and found a single caller, Konstantin Puchkov from Russia, on the button. “How much do you have?” asked McDonald before the flop and Puchkov showed him his stack of about 70,000.

Flop {3-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Hearts} and McDonald bet 7,500 which Puchkov called. The turn card was the {8-Hearts} which both players opted to check. The {q-Clubs} on the river saw McDonald put out a neatly stacked bet of 20,000. Puchkov wanted to know how much it was so the dealer knocked it over so he could see.

Puchkov made the call and McDonald turned over his {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}. “Full house.” The dealer declared. Puchkov couldn’t beat it and shook his head in disbelief as he counted what remained of his stack.

Katchalov Meets Russian Resistance

Nível 12 : 1,200/2,400, 300 ante

Viacheslav Goryachev opened the betting from late position for 5,100 and got four callers to a flop of {a-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{q-Hearts}. The small blind checked and Eugene Katchalov bet 6,200 from the big blind. Goryachev made the call and it was heads up to a turn card {a-Diamonds}. The second ace saw both players check.
The river {3-Clubs} saw Katchalov check and when Goryachev bet 10,000 he passed his cards to the dealer. Pot to Goryachev.
