The action was passed around to John Juanda in the cutoff and he moved all in for 126,500. Mike Watson asked for a count and thought for about a minute before making the call. The blinds folded.
Juanda:
Watson:
The board came as Juanda avoided being counterfeited and made a full house on the river to survive. Watson was crippled as a result.
With 33 players left and 31 getting paid it a tense time at the tables as this hand showed.
Byron Kaverman opened from the small blind and Philipp Gruissem defended the small blind. They saw a flop of . Kaverman continued for 16,500 and Gruissem made the call. The turn card was the and now Kaverman check-called a bet of 40,000 from Gruissem after a couple of minutes thinking about it.
The river cards fell the and again Kaverman checked; a pause from Gruissem who then moved all in for 147,000. If Kaverman called he would still be in but crippled while Gruissem had put his tournament life on the line.
Almost five minutes ticked by before Kaverman folded with a look of pain on his face.
“Show the bluff.” said John Juanda returning to the table. Gruissem showed one card, the .
Pablo Fernandez got his stack all in preflop and was looking good against Philipp Gruissem.
Fernandez:
Gruissem:
Fernandez was looking to dodge an ace, but that proved easier said than done as the flop came down . The man known as "Philbort" paired his ace and took a commanding lead on the hand. The turn meant Fernandez needed the case queen to stay alive, but it wasn't in the cards as the blanked.
We missed the elimination of Yevgeniy Timoshenko, but Noah Schwartz was kind enough to fill us in on what happened.
According to him a player had opened for 12,000 and Timoshenko called. When the flop came down , Timoshenko checked and his opponent bet 12,000. Timoshenko moved all in for 72,000 and a call was made.
Timoshenko:
Opponent:
Neither player held much other than gutshot straight draws, so when a blanked on the turn followed by a on the river, the king high won and Timoshenko was sent to the rail.
Anatoly Filatov opened from late position and Dmitry Yurasov made the call in the big blind. They had similar stack sizes but Filatov had slightly more going to the flop of .
A check from Yurasov and Filatov bet 13,000. Yurasov made the call and they went to the turn card . Yurasov check-called a bet of 27,000 from Filatov. It looked like they were getting pot committed.
The river card saw a last check from Yurasov and Filatov fiddled with his chips for a while, giving them a count before announcing he was all in. Yurasov picked up a handful of chips to make the call for his tournament life.
Filatov flipped over for a turned full house. Yurasov’s cards were briefly exposed, . He too had made a full house but it wasn’t good enough and he was out.
Rui Cao, who was the chip leader for a long time but slipped a bit lately, has just eliminated American player Anthony Zinno.
Cao raised it up to 11,500 from the small blind, and Zinno made the call from the big blind. Cao continued for 15,000 on . Zinno pushed all in for 68,500 and Cao snap called.
Cao showed and was almost guaranteed to eliminate Zinno who had to do with . The on the turn brought some possibilities for Zinno, but the on the river was no help.
