Ziyard Struggling

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

Zimnan Ziyard is the last remaining former EPT Champion in the tournament as we get ready for the merry dance that is, "Can He Do The Double?"

But before we start with all the articles about that, it'll have to be prefaced by the fact that Ziyard has about 80,000 and only that because he just doubled up with {J-Hearts}{J-Spades} against {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. At the moment it's an uphill struggle and it's looking likely that we'll be crowning a brand new champion.

Zimnan Ziyard
Zimnan Ziyard

Zimnan Ziyard has had success before at EPT Deauville, finishing 20th in the Main Event here two years ago, then last year building a big stack early to enter Day 3 second in chips — the same position he was in to start play today. Ziyard had a rough third day a year ago to be knocked out before Day 3 was done, but has fared better this time around. Read Ziyard describe his own Day 3 travails on the PokerStars blog.

Van den Bijgaart Doubles

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante

One of the last hands of the previous level the player under the gun raised it up to 12,000. Joep van den Bijgaart on the button made it 95,000 to go with just 3,000 behind. The player in the small blind, Marc Uzan, thought about it and said "I have a decision". In the end he moved all in and the initial raiser quickly folded. Van den Bijgaart committed his last 3,000 as well after making sure he made one more pay jump.

Van den Bijgaart held {K-Hearts}{J-Diamonds} and was live against Uzan's {A-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}. "Good flop" he said after {7-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}. "Better turn" someone said after the {Q-Spades} gave him the nuts. The {8-Hearts} didn't do anything and Van den Bijgaart doubled.

Lerust Loving It

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Anthony Lerust
Anthony Lerust

Anthony Lerust is up to 810,000 after winning a pot against Ludovic Geilich, who has dropped to 440,000 as a result. Lerust was the pre-flop raiser, making it 12,000 from middle position, with Geilich calling on the button. On the {3-Hearts}{Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts} flop Lerust checked, Geilich bet 14,000 and Lerust called.

The {J-Hearts} hit the turn, bet of 27,000 from Geilich, call from Lerust. The {A-Clubs} river was checked down and Lerust showed {K-Spades}{Q-Diamonds} to claim the pot. During the hand a table was broken and Ekrem Sanioglu was a new arrival at the table, he's sat to Lerust's direct right and has 1,025,000. If those two clash in a big pot it could create a monster chip leader.

Angry Kamel

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante
Kamel Boukhalfa
Kamel Boukhalfa

Kamel Boukhalfa opened for 14,000 and was three-bet from the cut-off by PokerStars player Jonathan Abdellatif to 35,000 the blinds folded, Boukhalfa made the call and they saw a flop of {9-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{j-Hearts}. Check, check it went and again on the turn card {7-Diamonds}. The river was the {q-Diamonds} and a bet from Abdellatif of 25,000 seemed to enrage the Frenchman who took off his headphones and rather bizarrely wrapped them round his chipstack, knocking over a pile in the process. He fumed for a couple more minutes. Quite what enraged him was unclear. A missed bet? The way the cards came out? Whatever it was he eventually flicked his cards towards the dealer.

The Sweeney Swoops In

Nível 18 : 3,000/6,000, 1,000 ante

Huge pot for Andrew Sweeney as he doubled up to 700,000 crippling Istvan Birizdo in the process.

Birizdo had made a big move with {K-Spades}{Q-Clubs} but Sweeney had {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs} and held on a {3-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{9-Spades} board.

Birizdo was left with just 100,000 remaining which went in as a three-bet shove against Jean-Yves Malherbe's initial 12,000 open. The Frenchman wasn't the problem though, Sotirios Koutoupas in the big blind calling the shove was. Malherbe quickly folded to leave Birizdo in trouble.

Birizdo: {J-Spades}{8-Spades}
Koutoupas: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}

The board came {A-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} and the tournament was down another player.
