Abdellatif Getting Busy

Nível 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

Just now we saw Belgian player Jonathan Abdellatif bet 5,300 on a {5-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{K-Hearts} board. EPT season 8 Player of the Year Ondrej "Vinkyy" Vinklarek had checked to him and called the bet. The river was the {A-Hearts} and Vinklarek checked again. Abdellatif thought about it for a second and eventually checked behind. The Belgian player showed {6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} for a turned flush which wasn't all that much worth anymore after the fourth heart had hit the river. The hand was still good though, Vinklarek mucked.

In the next hand, Dortmund Masters Finale Winner (presented by the EPT) Robert Auer raised to 1,800 from the hijack. Abdellatif made the call from the cutoff and Patrick Sacrispeyre came along from the big blind. {A-Spades}{7-Spades}{9-Clubs} on the flop and Sacrispeyre checked to Auer. The German player made a 2,800 continuation bet and Abdellatif instantly called. Sacrispeyre shoved all in for 17,500 and Auer immediately folded. Abdellatif called but his {A-Hearts}{10-Clubs} was behind against Sacrispeyre's {A-Clubs}{7-Clubs}.

"The river is always a ten" said Abdellatif, but that would not turn out to be a correct prophecy. The {Q-Hearts} brought some additional outs for Abdellatif but the {J-Clubs} on the river wasn't one of them.

Abdellatif is still up for the day though, he keeps busy.

Werth a Lot

Nível 10 : 500/1,000, 100 ante

On a flop of {2-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Spades} two players got all the chips in the middle. Maximilien Werth held {6-Diamonds}{6-Clubs} against the {j-Hearts}{6-Hearts} of Carl Johanson. The turn {q-Clubs} and river {2-Diamonds} and the set of Werth held to push him over the 100k mark and leave Johanson all but out but utterly expressionless.

Bruel Donates to a Good Cause

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Patrick Bruel opened for 1,800 and Daniel Ghionoiu sat to his left moved all in for his last 16,000. Back around to Bruel who shrugged and said he’s give him a spin with his {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}. Ghionoiu had {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} and was out of his chair putting his jacket on. The dealer dealt {q-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{5-Spades}{k-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and Ghionoiu took his jacket off and sat down again to his newly doubled stack of chips.

Gathy (and others) Gone

John O'Shea on Day 1
John O'Shea on Day 1

There were only 19 WSOP Bracelet winners in the combined Day 1 field and two of them found themselves sat next to each other at the Start of Day 2. JP Kelly (27,000) and Dominik Nitsche (40,000) are sat side by side and looked on as two other players at their table played an all-in pot.

Daniel Lannermark opened to 1,800 from middle position with {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}, Michael Gathy then moved all-in for 18,800 with {K-Diamonds}{Q-Spades} and back on Lannermark he called. The {8-Hearts}{2-Spades}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts}{2-Hearts} board gave Lannermark the win.

There have been plenty of other exits so far today including: Mohammed Barkatul, Yuri Dzivielevski, Vincent Gabel, Paul Tedeschi, Paul Senter, Roland Van Den Ent, Konstantin Kazaev, Roland Rozel, Tom Cunningham, John O'Shea, Frei Dilling, Joseph Mezailles, Elvis Pectu, Oleg Prokhorov, [Removed:203], Charles Chattha, Manuel Bevand, Bertrand "Elky" Grospellier, Freerk Post, Stephane Benadiba, Leo Willefert, Alice Taglioni, Bodo Sbrzesny, Bastian Fischer, David Tavernier, James Metcalf, Michel Leibgorin and Anthony Picault.

Sammartino Makes a Big Fold

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Dario Sammartino had bet 2,500 on a {K-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{9-Hearts} flop and Dmitry Ponomarev called before Anton Zhuravlev check-raised to 7,000.

Sammartino called and Ponomarev folded before the {2-Spades} turn. Zhuravlev bet 8,000 this time and Sammartino called again to see the {3-Spades} on the river.

This time Zhuravlev bet 18,000 and Sammartino tanked for several minutes before folding what he said was {K-}{J-}.

"You folded top two?" asked an incredulous Scandinavian next to him, "wow, good fold man. Yeah, I think I fold there."

Berende Going Strong

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Paul Berende started the day with 80,400 and grinded his way up to 90,000 before winning a huge hand.

The cutoff opened and the button made the call. With {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs} Berende squeezed from the small blind and the cutoff four bet and called the shove from Berende that followed with {10-}{10-}.

Berende, as he's used to, won the big flip and he's now one of the bigger stacks in the room.

Missed Bet?

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

Aurelien Guiglini had called a raise in the small blind from Alessio Isaia and they saw a flop of {7-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{a-Spades}. Guiglini bet 5,000 and Isaia called. They both checked the turn {a-Hearts} and river {2-Spades}. Guiglini turned over {10-Spades}{8-Spades} and when he saw Isaia’s {k-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} he indicated that he should have bet the river. Isaia wasn’t sure that he would have folded though, so maybe he saved himself a few chips.

It's not Wetemans day so far
It's not Wetemans day so far

The start wasn't all too good for Jasper Wetemans as he lost a rather big pot early on.

It was folded to him in the small blind and he pushed for twenty big blinds effectively. Mateusz Moolhuizen was seated in the big blind and was the one with the decision. That decision turned out to be rather easy for the accomplished poker player from the Netherlands as he found jacks. Wetemans had just ace deuce and wouldn't hit.

Not much later Wetemans lost most of the rest of his chips after he ran ace queen into aces.

Schleich Suffers Beat

Nível 9 : 400/800, 100 ante

With the board reading {K-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{K-Clubs} the chips went in thick and fast between Martin Schleich and Yoni Journo. The latter was at risk.

Schleich: {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds}
Journo: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}

The {5-Diamonds} on the turn did not change anything but the {10-Diamonds} river caused audible gasps from the table as Schleich looked on, very disappointed.
