Athanasios Polychronopoulos Out

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Athanasios Polychronopoulos
Athanasios Polychronopoulos

His name is almost longer than the post we're writing about his bust out. Athanasios Polychronopoulos ran into ace king with his pocket nines. His 15,000 stack went the other way as his opponent improved and he did not. The WSOP 2013 bracelet winner is out of the tournament.

Cheuxed Up

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

The bottom of Erwann Pecheux's world has just fallen out. The Frenchman got in a raising war against Omar Lakhdari with each player putting over 45,000 preflop.

Lakhdari: {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}
Pecheux: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}

The board came {Q-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{6-Hearts} and Lakhdari moved up to almost 100,000 while Pecheux was left crippled with barely ten big blinds left.

Ghassanis Battles the Table

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Ibrahim Ghassanis from Lebanon is the big stack at the table since doubling up against Watts (since busted) aces versus kings. He is enjoying himself at the table raising every hand to the bemusement of the rest of the table who seem to regard him with a touch of disdain. Ghassanis seems to be playing along with it as he is getting teased by the younger members of the table and he is holding his own. After all, he has the big stack of chips.

Ghassanis raised his usual 1,200 preflop in first position and it fell to Laurent Bachelet to defend this time as he made the call from middle position. Everyone else folded and they saw a flop of {j-Diamonds}{k-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Ghassanis continued for 1,700 and Bachelet made what appeared to be an uncertain call. The turn was the {3-Spades}. Ghassanis now bet a slightly smaller 1,250. It took a bit longer but again Bachelet made the call. The {10-Hearts} on the river and now Ghassanis checked. Bachelet reached for chips and bet 4,500. Ghassanis made a quick call and tabled {a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts} but it was no good against the {a-Hearts}{a-Clubs} of Bachelet. The table were slightly taken aback and a visibly annoyed Ghassanis left the table for a few minutes to recover his composure.

Raise - 3-bet - 4-bet - Push - Call

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

That sounds super exciting but in fact it hardly was.

Jan Heitmann had opened from middle position to 1,100 and Manig Loeser made it 2,700 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Heitmann who raised to 6,700 and he called the shove from Loeser that followed.

Heitmann was the underdog with his {A-Clubs}{K-Hearts} but would massively jump in front against Loeser's {A-Diamonds}{K-Diamonds} after the {2-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop. The {5-Hearts} on the turn and {9-Diamonds} on the river were blanks though and the two German players had to split the pot.

"Jippie," Heitmann laughed. "That was almost a giant jippie"

Lybaert is Done

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

We ran into Bart Lybaert on the rail, not a good sign for the Belgian player.

Lybaert had just turned his 3,000 stack back into 12,000 but would soon lose those in an unfortunate situation.

The cutoff opened to a 1,000 and the player on the button made the call. From the small blind Lybaert pushed his last 24 big blinds to the middle with {A-}{Q-}. The big blind woke up with {J-}{J-} and made the call, both other players involved folded.

Lybaert had ran out of luck as the board came {9-}{6-}{2-}{K-}{3-} and he had to exit the tournament area.

After Dinner Flips

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

It all went in preflop. Ramin Hajiyev, a PokerStars player from Azerbaijan, was at risk and held the {a-Spades}{k-Hearts} versus the {4-Spades}{4-Hearts} of Eduard Bhaggoe. The cards ran out {k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{5-Clubs} and Hajiyev doubled up. Bhaggoe took it in good spirits saying he was usually pretty good at flips. He still has chips and a chance to prove it.

Hard Day For Praz

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante

Walking back into the tournament room after the dinner break Praz Bansi is greeted by a friend, “Hey Praz, how you doing?” Praz replies, “Seventeen.”

“Seventy?”

“No.” Says Praz. “Seventeen. Everyone keeps saying well done. I’ve had a hard day.”

Cup of Tea to Table 12 Please

Nível 7 : 250/500, 50 ante
Victoria Coren
Victoria Coren

There's a bit of a Brit love-in going on at Table 12 where no less than 45% of the players seated there are British. Leading the chat is Team PokerStars Pro Victoria Coren, who was talking with Iaran Lightbourne about an Omaha game at a casino called The Ritz Club in London. It sounded like an invite only game and Coren joked that if even Lightbourne couldn't get in it then it must be good.

Talk between those two, Ben Jones and Matt Frankland then moved onto other cash games in London and who still played at The Vic. In terms of chip stacks Lightobourne (67,000) Frankland (57,000) and Jones (56,000) are busy building a stack, whilst Coren (8,000) would surely just like one with which she could build from.

Sharing a table with the tea drinkers are, amongst others, Bodo Sbrzesny (27,000), Martin Staszko (78,000) and Yerai Iribarren (78,000)
