What a Flop for Fiorini

Nível 34 : 120,000/240,000, 30,000 ante

Opened for 500,000 on the button by Luca Fiorini with {10-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, Kimmo Kurko in the big blind made a raise to 1,180,000 with {10-Hearts}{7-Clubs}. Fiorini called. The flop came {4-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, Kurko hitting his pair but surely Fiorini could not have hoped to hit the flop much harder than that? Kurko led out for 850,000 and Fiorini, instead of shoving, raised to 2,250,000. Kurko didn’t love it but he shoved all in and, after getting a price, Fiorini made the call. Fiorini was a 56% favourite at this point and Kurko was at risk, but the last two cards were {3-Clubs} {j-Clubs} and Kurko held to leave Fiorini as the short stack on 11 big blinds.

Along with his fellow Finn Pasi Sormunen, Kimmo Kurko has been challenging Kresten Nielsen in the category of Best Final Table Hat as both are wearing sparkly chapeaux while Nielsen has a bright golden bull on his cap. And after cracking Nielsen's aces, Kurko is challenging him as well for the EPT10 Barcelona title, too, as described on the PokerStars blog.

Pasi Sormunen Eliminated in 5th Place (€253,000)

Nível 33 : 100,000/200,000, 30,000 ante
Pasi Sormunen - 5th Place
Pasi Sormunen - 5th Place

For the past two years, two Finns have made the final table. Last year they finished in second and third place, and those positions won't be improved upon as Pasi Sormunen has just fallen in fifth place.

It happened when he opened from early position with the {k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} only to face a three-bet from Luca Fiorini, who picked up the {a-Spades}{k-Clubs} in the small blind. Sormunen thought long and hard before announcing that he was all in for 4.72 million and he was snap-called by Fiorini.

Sormunen knew he was in trouble even before the cards were tabled, and indeed it was a bad spot. That said, the {9-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Spades} flop made things extremely interesting as Sormunen picked up a flush draw. The {Q-Spades} turn was a miss, meaning he had 12 outs he could hit on the river. The dealer burned one last time and put out the {Q-Hearts}. The lady was no help to the Finn and he exited the tournament in fifth place for €253,000.
