We missed the elimination of Mustapha Kanit, but Stephen Chidwick was kind enough to fill us in on some details.
As he told it, Kanit opened and then called a three-bet from Yuri Dzivielevski. Kanit then called a bet on the flop, which contained a single diamond, and then bet after Dzivielevski checked the turn.
When the river put three diamonds on board, Dzivielevski checked and then called when Kanit moved all in. Kanit held the for a queen-high flush, but it was no good as Dzivielevski held the for the ace-high flush.
On a board of we witnessed Thomas Muehloecker bet out 3,600 from the big blind. Connor Drinan on the button made the call. The river came the and Muehloecker bet out 9,500. Drinan thought about it for a bit and eventually called. Muehloecker took one last peek at his cards before silently sliding them into the muck. Drinan mucked as well and was handed the pot.
The clock tells us currently 101 players have entered, with registration still open till the end of level 8. Last year, when Alex Trevallion took down this tournament, a total of 104 entries were made. It looks like this year is even going to be bigger.
It happened when Dzivielevski opened for 2,500 from the button and Chidwick just three-bet jammed all in for 30,300 from the big blind. Dzivielevski thought for over a minute before calling, and no doubt regretted it.
Dzivielevski:
Chidwick:
Chidwick was well out in front thanks to his kicker, which is what made the difference after the board ran out a clean .
Kevin MacPhee raised under the gun to 2,300 and Dominik Nitsche, who was next to act, moved all in from the cutoff for 22,500. Jason Mercier folded his button and Byron Kaverman tanked for a bit before calling from the small blind.
MacPhee folded right away, creating a heads-up showdown.
Nitsche:
Kaverman:
The flop brought , giving Kaverman the lead, but after the and the it was Nitsche who doubled up.
The first six levels are in the books, and a total of 83 players from 103 entries are still in contention. Levels are now an hour long from here on out. Registration and reentry are open two more levels, so till 8:50 p.m. local time.
