Welcome Back for Day 4 of the Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event

Raiden Kan
Raiden Kan

Things are getting serious at the APPT Aussie Millions Poker Championship Main Event. Just 30 players remain as the event gets down to the business end. Everyone is guaranteed at least AU$30,000 right now but the payout jumps will get steeper as the day progresses.

Raiden Can leads heading in to today after a great second half of the day yesterday. He leads a top five that looks like:

1 Raiden Kan 1,775,000
2 Andrew Chen 1,165,000
3 Brian Rast 1,156,000
4 Gerald Karlic 1,085,000
5 Richard Lyndaker 943,000

Defending champion Ami Barer doubled on the second to last hand yesterday to give himself a fighting chance of defending his title and a certain Phil Ivey will be looking to repeat the calm and collected manner he showed at the tables yesterday.

There's no time limit on how long play will continue today, it'll stop when the final table of seven is reached. Join is back here at 12:30PM when the race to the final table will commence.

Mike "Timex" McDonald Eliminated in 30th Place (AU$30,000)

Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Mike McDonald - 30th Place
Mike McDonald - 30th Place

Mike "Timex" McDonald began the day as the short stack, so it was no surprise to see him go first.

It happened when action folded to him on the button and he shoved for his last 120,000 or so. Defending champ Ami Barer called from the small blind, and the big got out of the way.

Barer: {k-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
McDonald: {10-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

McDonald was behind, but at least he was drawing to two live cards. The {3-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} flop wasn't very special, but the {9-Clubs} turn did make things interesting as McDonald picked up an open-ender, though Barer had flush blockers. Those scenarios proved to be a moot point though as the {7-Hearts} paired the board on the river and Barer won the pot with his king.

Michael Pedley Eliminated in 27th Place (AU$30,000)

Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Michael Pedley - 27th Place
Michael Pedley - 27th Place

Michael Pedley stood in disbelief at the fact he had just been eliminated in 27th place. There were no bad beats, but instead one incredible call from Brian Rast.

Three players saw a flop come {7-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}, and when it checked to Rast who bet from the button only Pedley called from the big blind. Pedley again stuck with him after the {k-Spades} turn where he check-raised Rast's 115,000 bet up to 230,000. Rast made a quick call before facing an all-in bet from Pedley valued at 390,000 on the {q-Hearts} river.

Rast immediately asked how much the shove was, which showed his interest. He then went through a period of several minutes where he folded his arms, stood up, and sat back down again, all the time while mumbling to himself trying to figure out what Pedley could have. Eventually, he made the call with {j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} for just a pair of nines! Pedley told him it's a good call and opened {8-Hearts}{8-Spades}.

Rast received lots of praise from the rest of the table and those looking on from the rail. Some gave him a little fist pump to acknowledge just how good the calls was.

"I know, right! I wanted to call, but how can you call with that?" said Rast.

Phil Ivey Eliminated in 23rd Place (AU$40,000)

Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Phil Ivey
Phil Ivey

Anthony Legg has a story to tell for a long while after he eliminated Phil Ivey from the Aussie Millions Main Event.

Ivey raised to 26,000 from the button and called after Legg three-bet to 63,000 from the small blind. The flop came {4-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Hearts} and Legg continued for 79,000 and set Ivey all in after he raised. Call.

Legg: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds} for the nut flush draw.
Ivey: {k-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} for top pair and second nut flush draw.

The board ran out {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} to make Legg a flush.

Michael Addamo Eliminated in 22nd Place (AU$40,000)

Nível 20 : 6,000/12,000, 2,000 ante
Michael Addamo - 22nd Place
Michael Addamo - 22nd Place

In the penultimate hand before the break, Michael Addamo opened for a raise from the hijack and received calls from Ami Barer and Sarkiss Osalian in the small and big blinds respectively. Two checks on the {a-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{k-Diamonds} flop saw Addamo continuation-bet (we're not quite sure how much), and both Barer and Osalian called.

When the {7-Spades} appeared on the turn, Barer checked and Osalian opted to lead out for 100,000. Addamo called, Barer folded, and the {8-Spades} completed the board on the river. Osalian checked, Addamo shoved all in for roughly 450,000, and Osalian called with the {a-Spades}{7-Spades} for aces and sevens. It was good as Addamo took a shot with the {j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for a missed flush draw.

With that, Addamo hit the rail in 22nd place for AU$40,000.

Ryan Yu Eliminated in 20th Place (AU$40,000)

Ryan Yu - 20th Place
Ryan Yu - 20th Place

In the last hand before the break, a short-stacked Ryan Yu shoved for his last 124,000 from the cutoff and Grant Levy thought for a few moments before calling from the big blind.

Yu: {q-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
Levy: {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades}

It was a bad spot for Yu, and it got even worse when the flop came down {q-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts} to give Levy two pair. The {8-Hearts} turn kept Yu drawing live as a ten would give him a winning straight, but instead it was the {J-Diamonds} river giving Levy a full house.

Yu exited in 20th place and marked the 11th elimination from Level 10.

Jesse "OnTheMac" McKenzie Eliminated in 18th Place (AU$55,000)

Jesse McKenzie - 18th Place
Jesse McKenzie - 18th Place

Ami Barer opened for 58,000 from the hijack and action folded to Aussie pro Jesse "OnTheMac" McKenzie, who three-bet shoved for approximately 370,000. Barer snap-called and the cards were turned on their backs.

McKenzie: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}
Barer: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}

McKenzie was in trouble, and his best bet to win was to catch an ace. That didn't happen though as the board ran out a dry {4-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{7-Spades}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. McKenzie took home AU$55,000 for his 18th-place finish.

Andrew Chen Eliminated in 16th Place (AU$55,000)

Andrew Chen - 16th
Andrew Chen - 16th

Anthony Legg has scored another knockout. After elimination the legendary Phil Ivey last level, Legg has followed it up by eliminating another tough competitor in Andrew Chen.

It happened when Legg opened for 35,000 from the cutoff and a short-stacked Chen shoved all in for approximately 165,000 from the small blind. The big blind folded, Legg made the call, and the cards were flipped over.

Chen: {a-Clubs}{j-Clubs}
Legg: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}

Chen got it in good, but Legg was drawing to two live cards. Much to Chen's dismay, Legg paired one on the {q-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{9-Spades} flop. The {10-Spades} turn was a good card for Chen as he picked up an up-and-down straight draw, but he couldn't connect as the {5-Spades} blanked on the river.

Chen takes home AU$55,000 for his 16th-place finish.

David Longmate Eliminated in 15th Place (AU$70,000)

Nível 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
David Longmate - 15th Place
David Longmate - 15th Place

From the cutoff seat, David Longmate raised all in for 243,000. Brian Rast made the call on the button, and everyone else folded.

At risk, Longmate showed the {A-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}. Rast tabled the {K-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}, and that was much to the displeasure of Longmate's crew on the rail.

"Jesus, f***ing hell," muttered Paul Newey as he leaned over the rail to get a closer look at the hand.

"Gotta get lucky again!" shouted Rob Schiffbauer standing right next to Newey.

Despite all the hope his rail had, the {K-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} flop didn't do too much for Longmate. Rast improved to top set, and Longmate was left needing a gutshot straight or a backdoor flush.

"We need a jack," said Newey.

"Jack or backdoor hearts," added Schiffbauer.

The turn was the {2-Hearts}, and that provided a glimmer of hope for Longmate as he looked for the double.

"Heart!" yelled Schiffbauer.

The river was red, but it was the {5-Diamonds}. With that, Longmate was gone in 15th place, and he took home AU$70,000. Rast increased his stack to over 2.85 million.

"We had a fun sweat!" said Schiffbauer as he patted Longmate on the back when he made his way over. "Oh well."

Terence Clee Eliminated in 14th Place (AU$70,000)

Nível 21 : 8,000/16,000, 2,000 ante
Terence Clee - 15th Place
Terence Clee - 15th Place

Terence Clee limped under the gun and was met by a raise to 66,000 from Joel Douaglin on the button. The blinds both folded, Clee just called, and the flop came down {3-Clubs}{9-Spades}{q-Spades}. Clee was first to act and led out for 100,000, which Douaglin min-raised to 200,000.

Clee thought long and hard before calling, which left him 443,000 behind. After the dealer burned and turned the {K-Clubs}, Clee checked and Douaglin took his time before sliding out 200,000. Clee thought equally as long and then committed about half his remaining chips to make the call.

When the {10-Hearts} completed the board on the river, Clee took about 30 seconds before stacking his chips and placing them in the middle.

"I call," Douaglin said excitedly and rolled over the {a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} for the rivered nuts. Clee stood up and went to muck his cards. Since it was an all-in situation the dealer was obliged to show his hand, and she revealed Clee had missed a flush draw with the {5-Spades}{7-Spades}.

Clee exited in 14th place for AU$70,000 while Douaglin was pushed the robust pot.
