Rowe Overall Leader After First Three Flights; Mercier Mashing

Nível 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Martin Rowe
Martin Rowe

The 2014 Aussie Millions Main Event continued on Tuesday with the third and final starting flight, and leading the day’s survivors is Martin Rowe.

Rowe bagged 228,100 chips and is the overall leader entering Day 2 after winning a massive pot on one of the last hands of the evening. The Aussie moved all in with {10-Hearts}{10-Clubs} on a board of {6-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}, and an opponent ripped it off with {5-Spades}{3-Spades} for the nuts. The {6-Spades} spiked on the river, giving Rowe a boat and pushing his stack over 200,000 chips.

Team PokerStars Pro Jason Mercier is also among the leaders after Day 1c. Mercier flopped a set of threes then turned treys full against an opponent with pocket queens, and made a straight flush against Marvin Rettenmaier the very next hand. Thanks to the late rush, the American, who has never cashed in the Aussie Millions Main Event, bagged 132,200 chips.

Other leaders include Matthew Gabriele (171,000), Jimmy Nistas (176,500), Max Lehmanski (176,400), and Tom Alner (120,000).

A total of 328 players registered on Day 1c, bringing the field size to 657 – three tables more than the 2013 Aussie Millions Main Event. Registration is open until the start of Day 2, so if anyone is willing to gamble they can join the fun.

With the $25,000 Challenge running during the first two flights, dozens of notables waited until Tuesday to join the Main Event. Among the big names to register were $25,000 Challenge winner Max Altergott, Phil Ivey, Daniel Negreanu, Dan Shak, and Tobias Reinkemeier. Unfortunately all of those players were unable to survive the day.

An opponent with ace-high floated Altergott on the flop and the turn, and when the German moved all in with two pair on the river, his opponent snap-called with a Broadway straight. Ivey flopped an ace-high flush draw against Nistas, who held top-pair top-kicker, and the turn and river both produced bricks. Negreanu flopped a set of deuces against an opponent’s pocket aces, and the player rivered an ace. And Shak ran pocket aces into Jarod Ludemann’s pocket nines.

Other players who exited on Day 1c were Barry Greenstein, Celina Lin, Jim Collopy, Winfred Yu, Isaac Haxton, Benny Spindler, Tony Hachem, and [Removed:17].

Dan Smith was one of the five players to chop the $25,000 Challenge on Monday, but he bucked the trend, reaching Day 2 with 69,300 chips. Smith fell to 9,000 chips in Level 5 (250/500/75), but quickly mounted a comeback. Smith won a decent-sized pot off of 2010 Aussie Millions Main Event champ Tyron Krost in Level 6, firing out an over-bet on the river, and climbed back to 100 big blinds a few hands later. Krost was later eliminated.

Day 2 will begin on Wednesday at 2:30 p.m. local time. The plan is to play six 90-minute levels with a 75-minute dinner break after Level 2. Be sure to check back to PokerNews for live updates straight from the tournament floor.

Healy Wins a Massive 160k Pot Off Finger & Greenwood

Nível 7 : 300/600, 100 ante
Patrick Healy
Patrick Healy

We just saw fireworks on a {6-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds} flop between Max Greenwood, Martin Finger, and Perth's Patrick Healy. There was around 40,000 already in the pot when Greenwood slide out a huge bet, which was enough to cover both his opponents. Much to the surprise of the rest of the table, Finger called off for 43,200 and then Healy did the same for 39,800.

Greenwood: {q-Spades}{q-Hearts}
Finger: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}
Healy: {k-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}

The pot had swelled preflop thanks to the big pocket pairs of Greenwood and Finger, but it was Healy who got lucky to flop a flush and get the chips in. Both his opponents were drawing dead on the {7-Hearts} turn, and after the {9-Diamonds} was put out on the river, an excited Healy was pushed the massive main pot. Finger won the 6,800 side pot.

Treys Full and Two Straight Flushes

Nível 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Jason Mercier
Jason Mercier

Jason Mercier and an opponent took a flop of {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}, and after a series of bets and raises all of the money went in the middle. Mercier was ahead with {3-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} against his opponent's {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}, and the {9-Clubs} on the turn gave the Team PokerStars Pro treys full. The {2-Hearts} bricked off on the river, and Mercier picked up the pot.

The very next hand, Marvin Rettenmaier raised in middle position and Mercier called out of the small blind. The flop fell {9-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}, Mercier check-called a bet of 2,300, and the turn was the {6-Diamonds}. Mercier led out for 3,800, Rettenmaier called, and the {9-Clubs} completed the board.

Mercier led out again - this time for 10,800 - and again the German called. Mercier showed {10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} for a straight flush, and Retteinmaier revealed {a-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}, just calling the river bet with a lesser straight flush.

The Team Pro added another pot prior to the break, and now has well over 100,000 chips.

Haxton Hits the Rail

Nível 6 : 250/500, 75 ante
Isaac Haxton
Isaac Haxton

Raymond Wu raised to 1,300 in early position, a player called in the cutoff, Chuck Caris called on the button, and Isaac Haxton defended his big blind. The flop fell {4-Spades}{a-Spades}{6-Diamonds}, Haxton and Wu both checked, and the player in the cutoff fired out 1,700. Caris called, Haxton check-raised all in for what looked like 22,500,

The action folded back to Caris, who tanked for a bit, then called.

Haxton: {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}
Caris: {a-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}

The {3-Clubs} on the turn was a brick, but the {k-Hearts} fell on the river, giving Caris a better two pair. Haxton hit the rail, while Caris chipped up to 110,000.

Daniel Negreanu flops a set; gets rivered

Daniel Negreanu was all in and at risk for 9,000 with {2-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} on a flop of {2-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. He was in great shape to double up through Nick Morales' {a-Clubs}{a-Hearts}, and remained ahead after the {10-Clubs} turned, but the {a-Diamonds} spiked on the river to give Morales a better full house.

Daniel Negreanu@dnchips busted. 22 vs AA flop was T 6 2 we got it all in. River Ace and that's that! Looks like I'll be playing the $100k in a few days!

Rossiter Looks to Keep the Ball Rolling

Nível 5 : 200/400, 50 ante
Jeff Rossiter
Jeff Rossiter

Australia Jeff Rossiter had an absolutely amazing year in 2013 winning more than $3.8 million, and he's here at the 2014 Aussie Millions looking to keep the ball rolling.

In a recent hand, an early-position player opened for 800 and Rossiter defended from the hijack. The rest of the players folded, the flop came down {5-Spades}{3-Hearts}{2-Diamonds}, and the raiser checked. Rossiter took the initiative by betting 1,300, his opponent called, and the dealer burned and turned the {10-Clubs}.

The early-position player check-called another bet, this time 3,400, and the {9-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. After his opponent checked for a third time, Rossiter fired out a bet of 6,300. His opponent hit the tank before pushing forward a call, and Rossiter tabled {k-}{k-}.

"I'm beat," his opponent declared before mucking his hand.

An Orbit w/ Full Tilt Poker Professional Viktor "Isildur1" Blom

Nível 2 : 100/200, 0 ante
Viktor "Isildur1" Blom
Viktor "Isildur1" Blom

Most of the time Viktor "Isildur1" Blom can be found at the highest-stakes cash games on Full Tilt Poker, but the Aussie Millions is such a prestigious event that he's opted to travel around the world to grind the live felt.

We often write about Blom in our weekly online series, The Online Railbird Report, but we thought we'd shift gears and give him a little live love by spending an orbit with him over at Table 26. The orbit began at an eight-handed table with Blom sitting on a stack of about 12,000.

Hand #1 (Hijack): A player in middle position opened for 525, another player called, and Blom folded.

Hand #2 (Middle Position): The first two player folded and then Blom did the same.

Hand #3 (UTG+1): Blom opened for 500 and received calls from the players on the button and in the big blind. Two checks on the {10-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{q-Spades} flop saw the button bet 1,025, the two checkers called, and the dealer burned and turned the {3-Hearts}.

After all three players checked, the {2-Diamonds} completed the board on the river. This time the big blind led out for 4,000 and it did the trick as both Blom and the button folded.

Hand #4 (Under the Gun): Blom folded.

Hand #5 (Big Blind): A player in middle position limped and action folded around to Blom, who checked his option from the big blind. Both players proceeded to check it down as the board ran out {2-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{q-Spades} and Blom showed that he was playing the board with the {7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds}. His opponent then rolled over the {8-Spades}{8-Clubs} to win the pot.

Hand #6 (Small Blind): A player raised in early position and Blom folded.

Hand #7 (Button): A player opened for 525 from middle position and Blom folded.

Hand #8 (Cutoff): A player opened for 525 from middle position and Blom folded.

Not too exciting, but given he's lost 2/3 of the starting stack already, we expect Blom won't wait too long to try and run it up.
