Quoss Leads Surviving 30 After Day 1

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Fabian Quoss may have waited until the very end of the day to take the chip lead, but nevertheless, he'll be the man to catch heading into Day 2. Quoss busted Yevgeniy Timoshenko in one of the final hands of the night with {K-}{K-} versus Timonshenko's {A-}{K-} and finished on 348,800 in chips. The next closest person to Quoss, Ognjen Sekularac, finished nearly 100,000 in chips behind with 259,200.

This year's field smashed all previous records, accumulating 65 entries and generating a prize pool of AU$1.56 million. With a hefty AU$460,000 going to the winner and the top eight spots being paid out, Day 2 is going to be one heck of a day for poker.

Last year's champion, Igor Kurganov, was eliminated on the day, twice. That elimination has paved the way for a new champion this year, and there are plenty of big names eyeing the title.

Amongst those surviving Day 1 were Daniel Negreanu, Dan Shak, Justin Bonomo, Ole Schemion, Dan Smith, Jason Mercier, and Sorel Mizzi. The reigning World Series of Poker Main Event champion, Ryan Riess, is also still in the field and looking to make plenty of noise in his first trip Down Under to the Aussie Millions.

Of those who busted on Day 1 were Patrik Antonius, Gus Hansen, Doug Polk, Mike Watson, Jonathan Duhamel, and Paul Newey.

Day 2 will begin at 2 p.m. local time, so be sure to tune right back in here to PokerNews.com for live coverage straight from the tournament floor.

Reinkemeier: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Schemion held the granddaddy of all hands, and he was never in trouble as the board ran out a dry {2-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}. With that, one German sent more than a third of his stack to the other.

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Sekularac Adds More

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Tobias Reinkemeier raised to 3,500 from under the gun, Ole Schemion called on the button, and Ognjen Sekularac called from the small blind before the dealer ran out the {A-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} flop. On the flop, Sekularac checked, Reinkemeier bet 6,000, Schemion folded, and Sekularac called.

The turn was the {9-Hearts}, and both Sekularac and Reinkemeier checked to see the {8-Diamonds} complete the board on the river. Sekularac bet 10,000, and Reinkemeier folded.

Updated Chip Counts

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Hello, Sekularac

Nível 8 : 800/1,600, 200 ante

Ognjen Sekularac just won a massive, massive hand to move to 345,000 in chips. When we arrived at the table, Sekularac was all in with Doug Polk and a third player. Sekularac had the {Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}, Polk had the {K-Clubs}{9-Hearts}, and the third player had the {A-Clubs}{A-Diamonds}. Fortunately for Sekularac, the board ran out {10-Spades}{5-Spades}{2-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}.

Sekularac finished with a set of queens and the winning hand. With more chips than both of his opponents, Sekularac collected the entire pot, busted the players, and moved into the chip lead in a big way.
