Day 1 of Event #13: €2,500 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em at the World Series of Poker Europe has concluded after ten 40-minutes levels of play. This new event on the WSOP Europe schedule drew a total of 147 entries including 65 unique players and 82 re-entries, but only 35 competitors found a bag at the end of the night.

Leading the field to Day 2 is Arturs Scerbaks with a hefty stack of 643,000. Scerbaks, from Jena, Latvia, already has a Circuit ring and he will try to match it with a bracelet. He already made one deep run this series and got 6th in Event #7: €1,100 Turbo Bounty Hunter No-Limit Hold'em. He will try to get closer to victory.

He is followed by Kahle Burns (481,500). Burns claimed his first bracelet just a few days ago after taking down Event #8: €25,500 Platinum High Roller No-Limit Hold'em for €596,883. Burns caught fire during the last levels of the night and managed to keep building till the end of it.

Julien Martini is closely trailing him with 480,500. Martini got close to winning his second bracelet just a couple of days ago but ended up finishing in 5th place in Event 10: €25,500 Mixed Games Championship of the series.

Jonathan Depa sits in fourth with 418,500. Depa won the €50,000 No Limit Hold'em - King's Short Deck High Roller for €641,250 and also got 6th in Event #6: €25,500 Short Deck High Roller No-Limit Hold'em. He will be looking to lock down another big score within a week in Short Deck tournaments.

Other champions near the top of the leaderboard include Sam Higgs (395,500), Benny Glaser (310,500), Ismael Bojang (260,000), and John Cynn (227,000).

Anthony Zinno (167,000), Anson Tsang (104,500), Robert Campbell (96,500), and Shaun Deeb (95,000) also made it through to Day 2.

However, plenty of notables busted before the end of the day including Daniel Negreanu, Chris Ferguson, Jeff Madsen, James Chen, and Phil Hui. With late registration being opened till the start of Day 2 tomorrow, they, as well as many others, will have the option to give it another try.

Day 2 will resume on Friday October 25th at 3 p.m. local time at Level 11 which features an ante of 2,000 with a 4,000 button ante.

The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be on site to report on all the action.

Welcome to Event #13: €2,500 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em

WSOPE Bracelet
WSOPE Bracelet

The first day of Event #13: €2,500 Short Deck No-Limit Hold'em at the World Series of Poker Europe gets underway at 4 p.m. local time. There is a €250,000 guarantee in the prize pool. This two-day event is a new addition to the 2019 WSOP Europe schedule. However, this is not the first Short Deck tournament of the series. Just a couple of days ago, Siamak Tooran won Event #6: €25,500 Short Deck High Roller No-Limit Hold'em for €740,996 and his first bracelet after defeating 111 competitors.

Just like in regular Hold'em, the object of short deck Hold'em is to make a better five-card poker hand using any combination of holes cards and community cards than your opponents to win the pot. However, the deck consists of 36 cards instead of 52 as every card deuce through five is removed. An Ace still plays as the highest and lowest card in the rank.

One important difference with regular Hold'em games is that in Short Deck games, flushes beat full houses. This is the hand rankings the WSOPE will use:

Hand Rankings
Royal Flush
Straight Flush
Four of a Kind
Flush
Full House
Straight
Three of a Kind
Two Pair
One Pair
High Card

Players will start with 25,000 in chips and will be allowed a free add-on for another 25,000 at any point until the end of registration. There will also be unlimited re-entry during the registration period, with late registration closing after nine levels, at approximately 10:45 p.m. Levels will be 40 minutes long and Day 1 will play through 14 levels with a 15-minute break every three levels.
The tournament will play six-handed, with each player putting in a single ante, and the player on the button putting in a double ante.

Stay tuned to PokerNews for all the coverage of this event.
