Event #7: €10,400 Main Event Championship

Welcome to Day 1b of the World Series of Poker Europe Main Event

The WSOPE Main Event Day 1b
The WSOPE Main Event Day 1b

Good afternoon and welcome to the Hotel Majestic Barriere in Cannes, home of the World Series of Poker Europe (WSOPE). We have flown through six events, smashing all previous WSOPE attendance records while placing six gold bracelets on the wrists of Guillaume Humbert, Andrew Hinrichsen, Steve Billirakis and Tristan Wade. Who will be our seventh and final WSOPE bracelet winner of 2011? Well it's main event time so let's start working it all out!

Yesterday a staggering 310 players strolled through the sunshine to play in Day 1a. 173 players survived the 90-minute levels with Jamie Rosen finishing on top of that particular list. Day 1b is notoriously bigger than Day 1a but we doubt that will be the case this time around. That being said its 11.13 (CET) and 165 players have already registered making the 2011 WSOPE Main Event the biggest and baddest in its short history.

Players registered to fiddle with their chips and fling their cards are Andrew Hinrichsen, Shawn Buchanan, Matt Giannetti, Brian Hastings, McLean Karr, Benny Spindler, Victor Ramdin and Fabrice Soullier.

Action starts at 12:00 (CET) with or without you, so don't be late.

165 Already Registered: Here Are Some of Them.

Five Hundo

The number on the big board shows 196 players registered for today's Day 1b, and that puts the total field size over 500! This is now the largest prize pool France has ever seen for a poker tournament, and it blows away the previous WSOPE record.

We're set to begin in just a moment.

Nível: 1

Blinds: 50/100

Where to Start?

With so many tables and so many players it is difficult to know where to start, so let's start at table one.

In seat one we have Max Silver (WSOPE Event #4 final tablist), in seat two we have Konstantin Uspenskiy (WSOPE Event #3 final tablist), in seat three we have Fabrice Soulier, in seat four we have Antoine Saout and seat five (WSOPE Event #3 winner). So all-in-all not a bad table!

Steve Billirakis raised to 200 from early position and Silver (SB) and Uspenskiy (BB) both called in the blinds. The action is checked through to the river on a board of {A-Diamonds} {7-Clubs} {4-Spades} {10-Spades} {2-Spades}. Max Silver bets 225 and Uspenskiy called.

Showdown

Uspenskiy{A-Hearts} {6-Hearts}
Silver{K-Hearts} {10-Hearts}

Uspenskiy dragged in the first pot of the day.

Tough Tables

Nível 1 : 50/100, 0 ante

The seats are still filling in with players, but we recognize about 2-3 players at the average table. Already, there are a couple that stick out as particularly tough places to try and amass a chip stack.

Table 6 holds Constant Rijkenberg (Seat 1), Brian Powell (3), Nick Mitchell (7), and Steven Chidwick (8). Powell is fresh off his semifinal run in Event #5 yesterday.

And Table 12 is the murderers' row. The six seat is empty right now, but the rest of Seats 5-9 are occupied by Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Graeme "Kiwi G" Putt, Jonathan Duhamel, and James Akenhead -- in that order. Yikes.

This blogger is spending most of his time near Table 4, though, the table that's not big enough for both Guillaume Darcourt and Victor Ramdin. Those two certainly aren't afraid to mix it up, and we wouldn't be surprised to see some big pots between them early on.

Cajelais Set Up by Candio

When we arrived at the same, Erik Cajelais was tanking over a bet of 8,000 from Filippo Candio on the board of {K-Hearts}{10-Spades}{7-Clubs}{J-Hearts}{2-Clubs}. After a bit of time in the tank, Cajelais elected to call. Candio tabled the {7-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} for a set of sevens and Cajelais mucked, suffering the early hit to his stack.
