Steinberg Sets the Trap and Catches Ones

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Max Steinberg from earlier in the series
Max Steinberg from earlier in the series

Max Steinberg limped under the gun, and he was followed by the cutoff and the small blind before the big blind checked his option.

The flop came down {K-Spades}{2-Hearts}{4-Spades} and action checked over to the cutoff. He bet 1,900 and only Steinberg called.

On the {8-Spades} turn, both players checked. The river was the {J-Diamonds} and Steinberg checked once more. The cutoff player bet 4,100. Steinberg thought for a while, then check-raised, making it 16,000. The player in the cutoff thought for about a minute, then called.

"Flush," Steinberg said. He showed {Q-Spades}{J-Spades} and that was good as his opponent mucked. Steinberg scooped in the pot and moved over 100,000 here on Day 2.

Gus Hansen Eliminated

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Gus Hansen
Gus Hansen

Gus Hansen opened from early position and got a call from the player seated to his left and big blind Caufman Talley.

The flop was {7-Diamonds}{a-Clubs}{8-Hearts}, which got checked around and the turn card was the {3-Hearts}.

Talley led out for 4,200 and Hansen called, leaving 14,600 behind, and the third player folded.

The river was the {10-Diamonds} and Talley pushed forward a stack, enough to cover Hansen’s remaining chips.

Hansen squirmed for a while and said that he could beat the “deuce of spades” before calling.

Talley rolled over {a-Spades}{3-Clubs} for two pair and Hansen mucked and was on his way out of the tournament. As he exited, he was gracious enough to pose for a picture with a fan, much to the fan’s delight.

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Brandon Ageloff raised to 1,400 from mid-position. The player in the hijack three-bet to 5,100 and Ageloff called.

They both checked through the {5-Clubs} on the turn and the {9-Clubs} on the river. Ageloff showed {J-Spades}{J-Hearts} to take the pot.

Small Pot for Chan; Abou Risk Loses Some; Lech Eliminated

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

On a four-way flop of {Q-Diamonds}{10-Hearts}{9-Clubs}, the action checked around and Johnny Chan then bet the {K-Spades} turn for 1,500. One after the other, his opponents folded and Chan showed the {K-Diamonds}. One opponent said "I had an underpair," to which Chan's table neighbor replied "I had the lowest, pocket fives."

Nick Abou Risk looked up a short stack for 17,600 with {A-Diamonds}{K-Spades} and saw his opponent turn over {6-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}. The board ran out {Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Abou Risk's ace-king ended up second best.

Last but not least, Michael Lech got his last 6,000 in from the cutoff and the big blind called with {A-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}. Lech only had {A-Spades}{8-Hearts}, but spiked a dream flop of {K-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}. With the spades outs gone, Lech was in good shape to stage a comeback, only to see the board complete with the {10-Hearts} turn and {Q-Hearts} river.

Liu Bounces Another

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Stephen Simm moved all in under the gun for 6,200 and got a call from JJ Liu on his immediate left. Everyone else folded.

Simm: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Liu: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Simm was in awful shape, and the {j-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} flop brought little. He picked up a straight draw on the {k-Diamonds} turn, but the river was a {k-Clubs}.

Andrew Neeme Makes Them Fold

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante

Andrew Neeme raised to 2,000 from mid-position and was called by the player in the cutoff. The player in the big blind three-bet to 6,800 though, and both Neeme and the other player called.

The flop came {8-Spades}{9-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}, the player to act first led out for 8,000, and Neeme raised to 21,000. The player in the cutoff snap-folded but the player in the big blind needed some more time. After a while, he decided to fold.

Koon Forced to Chop with Aces

Nível 7 : 400/800, 100 ante
Jason Koon
Jason Koon

Jason Koon opened early to 1,800 and saw plenty of action unfold behind him. A player on his immediate left made it 5,100, and Ivona Lungo reraised to 16,000. Koon asked to see his opponents' stacks when action got back to him, and he moved all in for 92,800. The original three-bettor, who had about 76,000, folded, but Lungo quickly called.

Koon: {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds}
Lungo: {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}

The {6-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts} flop gave Koon a slight chance at scooping the pot, but the {j-Clubs} turn rendered the {4-Clubs} river meaningless.

Another level is down and that means another 20-minute break for the remaining players.

During the last level, Quoc Vu took over the chip lead after busting $10K Heads-Up runner-up John Smith in a massive pot.
