Matt Grapenthien Rocking the Big Stack and All That Razz in Day 2 of Event #69

Matt Grapenthien
Matt Grapenthien

Matt Grapenthien leads the remaining 102 players into Day 2 of Event #69: $1,500 Razz. Grapenthien already has one WSOP gold bracelet from the 2014 $10,000 Seven Card Stud Championship. He is joined by a pretty strong field with the likes of 14-time WSOP bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth (45,900), Mike "The Mouth" Matusow (23,200), Jason Mercier (31,200), Tom Schneider (46,500), and Benny Glaser (61,000).

There are a ton of great players returning, we could list plenty more, but if players like Brandon Shack-Harris (23,100) are being left off the list, then you know this field is stacked.

James Obst (30,700) is still in the mix and has a chance for a Glaser-esque sweep, having already won the $10,000 Razz Championship. Glaser swept the $1,500 and $10,000 Omaha Eight or Better events last year.

It should be an interesting Day 2 and it all kicks off at 2 p.m. today. Stay up to date with all the action from Event #69 and all of the eight events happening today at the 2017 Wolrd Series of Poker, right here on PokerNews.com.

Good News and Bad News for the Poker Brat

Nível 14 : 2,500/5,000, 500 ante
Phil Hellmuth
Phil Hellmuth

"I've got good news and bad news, Phil," said Sam Grizzle as he approached Hellmuth's table. "The good news is that you're still in the tournament." Everyone at the table laughed. "The bad news," continued Grizzle, "is that I'm here on your left!"

"I'm glad you're here, Sam," said Hellmuth.

"Me too. Hey! How about a last longer?" said Grizzle. Hellmuth out-chipped, with the 14-time bracelet winner having around 100,000, and Grizzle around half that.

Despite Grizzle offering 2:1 on the last longer, it remains to be seen whether Hellmuth will bite.

Baker: {x-}{x-} / {6-}{a-}{k-}{a-} / {x-}
Matusow: {x-}{x-} / {3-}{10-}{9-}{3-} / {x-}

We heard someone cry out, "Please, God, don't let me get unlucky on the river," on a neighboring table and hurried over to find Mike Matusow, hands stretched out skyward in a three-way monster pot on sixth street.

"That gets the reporters rushing over," said David "ODB" Baker, a participant in the hand. "By that he means he's been a dog on every street!"

Matusow had bet on sixth street, with Wendy Freedman and Baker to act behind him. Both called.

On seventh street, Baker bet and Matusow called.

Baker showed {8-}{4-}{2-} for an eight low and Matusow obligingly showed {7-}{2-}{a-} for a nine low.

"I started Ace-Deuce-Three," said Matusow, "Nice hand."

On fourth street, David "ODB" Baker bet, and Daniel Tafur called, as did Benny Glaser. On fifth street, Tafur bet and got two callers.

On sixth street, things got interesting. Tafur bet again, Glaser raised, and Baker three-bet. Tafur folded and Glaser called.

Glaser checked seventh street.

"I should bet but I won't," said Baker, showing {a-}{2-} for a seven-five low.

Glaser showed {3-}{2-}{5-} for a six low.

"Did you get there?" asked Baker, and Glaser nodded.

"How do you not bet there?" asked Glaser.

"Because I know you were drawing to a six!" replied Baker.

On seventh street, Freedman showed a {k-}, meaning she had made a queen low. Mercier was drawing live as he peeled his last card.

"It's a three-spotter," he said. "It's a heart. It's the six of hearts." He showed the {6-Hearts} and was eliminated.

Phil Hellmuth check-called on sixth street before check-calling on seventh street as well. Owen showed {7-}{3-}{a-} for an eight-low, and that set Hellmuth off.

"The f*** is going on. He f***ing did this to me in the last f***ing tournament. Run so f***ing bad."

Just when you thought he was cooling off, he launched off again.

"What the f***," he continued, "Play so f***ing bad. King-Four-Four; What the f***?

"F***ing motherf***er. What are they? F***ing goofy?"

Gola raised, Wyraz three-bet, and Glaser four-bet. Weliever then raised over the top capping the action. Hellmuth folded, Gola called, Wyraz folded, and Glaser called.
