Kerry Goldberg Leads Event #35: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em

Nível 20 : 5,000/10,000, 1,000 ante
Kerry Goldberg
Kerry Goldberg

It's time for everyone to get some rest as Day 2 of Event #35: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'Em has come to an end. Kerry Goldberg leads the remaining 22 players into the final day with 1,224,000 chips. Earl Hirakawa ran up a stack earlier in the day and coasted to the finish with 728,000 chips. Darrell Ticehurst also bagged a healthy stack, rounding out the top three, with 716,000 chips.

Goldberg has cashed in three WSOP events in his poker career, including last year in this same event where he finished in 91st place. Goldberg will be looking for his largest live tournament cash and to add to his $56,000 career tournament earnings. He came into the day with an average chip stack and finished the day as the only player over 1,000,000 chips. Goldberg won a big hand in the last level when he made a set of nines against his opponent's top two pair.

Also still in the mix is the defending champion of this event, James Moore, who bagged 559,000 and will enter the day fifth in chips. Moore topped a field of more than 1,000 last year to walk away with $230,626. He'll have his eyes set on a repeat performance on Tuesday.

The final 22 players will return on Tuesday at 11 a.m. local time to compete for the WSOP gold bracelet and the $259,230 first place prize. They will play another 30 minutes of level 21 with the blinds at 6,000/12,000 with a 2,000 ante and then 60-minute levels until a winner is crowned.

James Woods Says Goodbye

Nível 19 : 4,000/8,000, 1,000 ante
James Woods
James Woods

A player in early position opened to 21,000, and James Woods called from the button. Ed Aulick moved all in from the big blind for 209,000. The initial raiser folded, and James Woods called all in for his remaining 26,000.

Woods was currently in the lead with {6-Hearts}{6-Spades} against Aulick's {a-Spades}{k-Spades}, but the flop came {k-Hearts}{j-Spades}{2-Hearts}, making a pair of kings for Aulick. Woods needed to hit a six or running hearts to stay alive. The turn was the {7-Diamonds}, and the river landed the {2-Diamonds}, and Woods was eliminated.

Before exiting the tournament area, Woods shook many hands, wished everyone luck, and said goodbye to his fellow poker players.

Johnny Landreth
Johnny Landreth

Johnny Landreth was in early position and moved all in for his remaining 48,000. John isler was in the small blind and also moved all in for 79,000. Skip Richardson was in the big blind and tanked for a couple minutes before he called, having both players covered.

Isler showed {a-Hearts}{k-Spades}, Richardson tabled {a-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}, and Landreth held {a-Clubs}{6-Clubs}.

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} {2-Spades} {4-Spades}, and Isler took it all down with his pair of kings. Landreth was the Day 1 chip leader, and couldn't get anything going today, finishing in 59th place.

James Woods Bids Susie Isaacs Farewell

Nível 11 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Susie Isaacs
Susie Isaacs

After speaking with the table we have heard that James Woods has gotten another elimination and is now approaching the 100,000-chip mark.

Woods and Susie Isaacs got it all in preflop with Woods holding pocket queens and Isaacs showing {a-}{q-}. The board didn't help to improve Isaacs's hand and she was eliminated. On her departure, Woods said, "I have knocked out a true poker queen, with my queens."

Isaacs is indeed a well-known name and easily one of the most respected figures in poker. She is known as "Ms. Poker," has released four books, won two WSOP bracelets and is a constant contributor and writer to many various poker magazines. She is the only woman in history to win back-to-back WSOP women's titles and is sure to be seen throughout many more events.

After the hand we had a chance to speak to James Woods about his poker friendship with Susie Isaacs.

"She is one of the first successful women I ever met in the poker world, many many years ago, playing limit," Woods said. "She is one of the classiest individuals you will ever find and is responsible for teaching me about the graciousness and humility of the game. It has helped me grow into a better player and person. She is a wonderful poker player and an even better human being."

One of Isaacs best known quotes is, "May the flop make you happy and the river be gentle." Very eloquently put.
