Life Outside Poker is a new podcast for PokerNews hosted by Connor Richards that seeks to pull back the curtain on poker players and allow viewers and listeners to get to know them on a personal level.
In the eighth episode, Connor speaks with legendary UFC ring announcer Bruce Buffer in an exclusive in-depth interview after Buffer's deep run in the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) $50,000 High Roller. Buffer, a longtime poker player, finished in eighth place for a career-best $212,423 after kicking off Day 3 with his trademark "it's time" introduction.
Buffer talked about finding his long-lost half-brother, Michael Buffer, and becoming his manager, the early days of the UFC, the similarities between poker and martial arts, his relationships with Joe Rogan and Dana White, playing poker with Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio and the time he injured himself in a poker tournament before announcing the biggest UFC fight in history.
Tongguang Sun moved all in preflop and was called by Peter Segal, who had him covered.
Tongguang Sun: A♥J♦
Peter Segal: 9♥9♦
Segal's pair of nines were still in the lead on the 2♥Q♠K♠ flop, but Sun picked up a straight draw. The 8♠ turn offered no help to Sun, however the river brought the J♥ and Sun paired his jack to double up.
Chris Conry raised from early position to 65,000 and Scot Faulkner called from the big blind. The flop came out with A♥K♥2♦ and Conry made the continuation bet of 60,000 after Faulkner checked.
Both players checked the turn A♦.
On the river 8♠ Faulkner took the lead and bet 125,000 and Conry announced, "all in." Faulkner quickly folded and Conry turned over the A♣A♠ for quads.
Conry stated, "Good fold sir, good fold."
Faulkner said, "Good check on the turn."
Mikey Wangh joked, "That was an evil check on the turn."
Mikey Wangh also at the same table has quickly amassed a massive stack and requested that the dealer stop dealing him good cards.
Action picked up on the turn in a hand between Greg Frank, in the big blind and Frank Lindsay, in the cutoff.
With about 275,000 in the pot and the board reading 5♦K♠7♠6♥, Frank checked and Lindsay moved all in for 255,000. After some thought, Frank made the call.
Frank Lindsay: A♦8♦
Greg Frank: 8♠6♠
Frank's pair of sixes held when the river brought the J♣, eliminating Lindsay.
