Bubble Set to Burst on Day 4 of the 2023 WSOP $10,000 Main Event World Championship

From a record-breaking field of 10,043 entries, just 1,518 remain heading into Day 4 of Event #76: $10,000 WSOP Main Event World Championship at the 2023 World Series of Poker at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. With only 1,507 spots getting paid, bubble play is set to commence right out of the gate as each player looks to secure a minimum payday of $15,000 along with the honor of cashing in the Main Event. For the short stacks out there, it will certainly be a tense start to the day.

One player who is unlikely to be too worried about falling before the money spots is Spain's Antonio Mallol Heredia, who managed to claim the overnight chip lead by bagging an impressive 1,899,000. Not far behind him is Chance Kornuth on 1,887,000. Kornuth has already enjoyed an extremely successful summer and has put himself in a good position to add to that success in the Main Event. Liran Betito of Israel rounds out the top three with 1,775,000.

As one would expect, many notable players remain in contention. Those with particularly large stacks include last year's third-place finisher in this event Michael Duek (1,678,000), two time bracelet winner and WSOP POY contender Chris Brewer (1,447,000) and popular poker coach Faraz Jaka (1,378,000). It is likely they will all put their stacks to good use on the bubble to accumulate even more chips.

Other high-profile players managed to weave their way through Day 3 but enter Day 4 with much lower chip counts and will have their work cut out for them. Among them is former high stakes regular Fabian Quoss (29,000) with just under four big blinds as well as Yueqi "Rich" Zhu (106,000) with a slightly more workable 13 big blinds.

Play is set to resume at 12 p.m. local time and will continue for five more 120-minute levels. Blinds start in Level 16 at 4,000/8,000 with a 8,000 big blind ante. As has been the case on all of the days thus far, players will have a 20-minute break after every level with a 75-minute dinner break at the conclusion of Level 18. It remains to be seen whether hand-for-hand play will begin right off the bat but in any event, the action from today will be intense from the start.

Gravlien Busts versus Vijayaratnam in Massive Pot

The board 10♦4♥9♠3♥7♣ was already dealt with a pot containing around 500,000. Senthuran Vijayaratnam moved a pile of chips in front of him for a bet worth 500,000, putting Bjorn Gravlien at risk for a remaining stack around 290,000.

After a few minutes of thinking, Gravlien eventually called, but only to see 3♠3♦ in Vijayaratnam's hand for a set of threes.

Gravlien quickly made his way to the exit while the dealer showed he held A♣10♣.

Bonacci Hits Quads Against Al Mouselly on the Bubble

Maher Al Mouselly raised to 20,000 with the A♣K♣ and Frank Bonacci three-bet to 66,000 from one seat over with the 7♥7♦. The 7♠6♦5♥ flop saw Al Mouselly check and Bonacci continued for 37,000 to earn a call by the initial preflop raiser.

Both headed to the J♣ turn on which Al Mouselly checked and Bonacci bet 90,000. Al Mouselly stuck around to the 7♣ river which gave Bonacci quads.

However, it was Al Mouselly who bet 185,000 and Bonacci then moved all-in to force out his opponent.

Dayan Busts Greenleaf Two Spots away from the Money Bubble

Yehuda Dayan opened to 20,000 from the cutoff and action folded around to Seth Greenleaf, who was automatically all in and at risk from the big blind for his last 14,000 chips.

Greenleaf was in dire straits when Dayan flopped top pair on the A♦Q♥8♦ flop. The J♠ turn gave Greenleaf outs in the form of a gutshot straight draw, but the 6♥ river was a brick and Greenleaf was eliminated from the main event just two spots away from making the money.

Emperador Makes Wild Hero Call on the Stone Bubble Against Vampan

On a completed board of J♠4♥3♦6♠A♣ with around 220,000 chips in the pot, Diego Emperador checked from the big blind to his opponent Daniel Vampan in the hijack. Vampan then bet 600,000, enough to cover Emperador's stack of 325,000.

Emperador entered the tank for several minutes. Eventually, the floor came over because it was the last table still playing, and Emperador asked for some clarification about bubble rules. A few more minutes then went by before Vampan called the clock, giving Emperador only 30 seconds to make a crucial decision.

When the countdown reached five seconds left, Emperador slammed in the calling chips and players were told to keep their cards face down to give ample time for media to arrive.

When everyone had gathered, Vampan showed his bluff with 7♠3♠ for a measly pair of threes, and Emperador elicited some gasps from the crowd when he tabled his K♣J♦ for just a bluff-catcher with a pair of jacks. He doubled up on the stone bubble and play continued onward.

The Bubble Has Burst; Bisgaard Wins Seat for 2024 Main Event

There were three all-ins during the last hand of hand-for-hand play:

Hand #1:

The action folded to Jeppe Bisgaard in the hijack, who opened for 17,000, and Quan Zhou three-bet to 53,000 next to act. Jonathan McCann shoved all in for just over 600,000 in the small blind, and action was back on Bisgaard, who went deep in the tank. After nearly a minute, Bisgaard called for his last 250,000, and Zhou got out of the way.

The tournament staff and camera crews surrounded the table as they awaited the showdown. Once Jack Effel was in place, the cards were on their backs.

It was the ultimate cooler for Bisgaard to run into the only hand better than his. The board ran out 7♦6♥3♥J♠J♥, and the aces for McCann held up to send Bisgaard out.

Hand #2:

At Table #424, everybody crowded around Yueqi Wang when she was already at risk for around 200,000 chips on the river against Mikiya Kudo.

According to the Japanese player, he opened from under the gun to 17,000 and was called by the cutoff and by Yueqi Wang in the big blind.

On the 6♠A♠9♦ flop, Kudo continued for 25,000. The cutoff folded, and Wang check-called.

The K♥ came on the river, and Kudo fired a second barrel of 55,000, and Wang called.

The river was the 6♣. Wang took the lead and fired out a bet of 100,000. Then Kudo raised to 300,000, more than Wang's stack. She called.

When she had to reveal her cards, Wang explained that she flipped a coin and that it landed on the "call" side. "I know I'm eliminated, but I call," she said.

Mikiya Kudo: 6♥6♦

Wang had a top pair but ran into quads. Just as she predicted, she was eliminated.

Hand #3:

Meanwhile, at Table 437, Peter Nigh was all in from the small blind for his last 148,000 and called by Eric Fields, who covered him, putting Fields at risk.

The flop came J♦6♥9♦, giving Fields plenty of outs in the form of two overcards and the nut-flush draw. Those outs failed to materialize on the 5♠ turn and 6♠ river, and Fields was sent to the rail on the stone bubble along with two other players.

As there were three eliminations simultaneously, Effel announced they would split $30,000 in prize money and flip for the stone-bubble $10,000 seat into next year's Main Event.

The Flip

They were guided to an empty table for the 2024 WSOP Main Event seat flip. All three players took their seats and got their cards dealt.

The flop came 10♥3♥K♦ for Wang to hit a pair of treys.

The turn was the Q♣ for Nigh to take the lead with the pair of queens but the river completed the board with the J♠ for Bisgaard to hit the straight to claim his spot for next year.

The remaining 1,505 are now in the money and guaranteed a minimum cash of $15,000.

Wang Cashes with a Chip and a Chair

Steven Wang folded his big blind on the stone bubble leaving himself just a single 1,000 yellow chip behind. After the dust had settled from hand-for-hand play, Wang squeezed into the money with an eighth of a big blind.

Once the bubble had burst, Wang was forced all in from the small blind.

Ariel Celestino raised from the button to 16,000 and the big blind called. The flop of J♣10♦5♠ checked through to the 7♦ on the turn. The big blind checked and then folded to a bet of 18,000 from Celestino sending the hand to a showdown. Wang peeled his cards one at a time as this was the first time he'd seen them.

The river came the 3♣ eliminating Wang. To his delight, he exited to the payout cage instead of a cashless rail.

Moneymaker Approaches a Million After Busting Faris

Joshua Faris raised to 16,000 on the button and Chris Moneymaker three-bet to 50,000 out of the small blind. The four-bet shove for 252,000 by Faris followed and Moneymaker called.

Gold Doubles Through Czuczor After Bubble

The payout line is increasing by the minute as the field has already lost over 100 players since the bubble burst.

Jamie Gold, the winner of the previous biggest Main Event in 2006, was at risk of joining them when he jammed all in for 159,000 after Marton Czuczor opened his button. Czuczor snap called and the cards were tabled.

"I didn't think he had much, that's why I jammed king-jack," Gold said in his own defense.

The flop remained good for Czuczor with 3♣8♠8♥, but Gold struck gold when the K♣ hit on the turn. No jack arrived on the 10♣ river and Gold doubled up to still be in contention to become the first two-time main event champion in the 21st century.

Too Many Outs for Vierling

Three players created a pot of 60,000 before the K♦Q♥J♦ flop hit the board, and all three checked around.

When the 4♥ landed on the turn, Vierling fired a bet of 75,000. NIck Petrangelo was next to act and made the call, while the cutoff got out of the way.

When the K♠ hit the river, Vierling slowed down with a check. Petrangelo cut out a stack of green and announced a bet of 200,000. Vierling's cards flung into the muck instantly as she said with a chuckle, "Too many outs."
