Day 2 of Event #87: $2,500 Mixed Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better has arrived at the 2023 World Series of Poker, with 247 players still in contention for a share of the $1,023,500 prize pool. Play commences at 1 p.m. local time in Horseshoe Gold.

A total of 460 entrants saw play at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas, including "Crazy" Mike Thorpe, who enters Day 2 with 165,300. The mixed-game specialist has six cashes this summer, all of which are in limit-game formats. He looks to add to that record with a strong performance today. Also beginning the day near the top of the leaderboard is Daniel Strelitz, who enters play just behind Thorpe with 165,200. Strelitz, a two-time bracelet winner, will be looking to improve upon his best finish this summer - a fifth-place result in $1,500 Eight Game Mix 6-Handed. Atop the leaderboard sits Patrick Leonard, who enters Day 2 with 211,500 and will look to add to last year's Tag Team bracelet.

Players need to finish in the top 69 to make the money. By doing so, they will earn a minimum of $4,053. After meeting that goal, players will look to position themselves for tomorrow's final day, where $221,733 and a WSOP gold bracelet await the winner.

On fifth street, a side pot was created when Tamasauskas check-called a bet from Kost, and the same happened on sixth and seventh street.

With action caught at the final street, Daniel Negreanu had bet and Vincas Tamasauskas had folded. Andrew Brown then raised and Negreanu let out an expletive.

"I knew you were on diamonds!" Negreanu claimed. After some more table talk, he eventually put in the call, being shown A52 by his opponent for the ace-high flush. Negreanu mucked his cards and started talking to his vlog camera about how he knew he was beat but could bring himself to lay it down, accompanied with some more expletives.

Allen Kessler
Allen Kessler

Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better

In classic "Chainsaw" fashion, Allen Kessler called all-in for 1,500, half a big blind, in middle position. Jorge Leon then raised from the hijack and Michael Noori called from the cutoff to create a side pot of 3,000 chips.

The flop was dealt 4Q6 and Leon check-called a bet from Noori. The 7 turn then went check-check before Noori fired another bet on the J river, after a check from Leon. Leon made the call and all three players showed down.

Noori and Leon chopped the side pot with Noori winning the low with AAJ8 for an eight low, and Leon winning the high with AKQJ for two pair.

Meanwhile, Kessler scooped the main pot when he tabled 8543 for an eight-high straight and a seven-low, and he would start the next hand with five times as many chips.

Mark Dickstein raised from middle position and Mel Judah reraised from the cutoff. The short stacks then got their stacks in the middle, with Judah being at risk.

Mel Judah: AAJ3
Mark Dickstein: A662

Judah's aces immediately got cracked on the 467 flop, giving Dickstein a set of sixes and the nut low. The 99 that completed the board did not change anything, and Judah said his goodbyes to the table.

Bruno Fitoussi was already all-in when a completed board of 610299 laid on the table. There was a side pot between Thomas Jamieson in the big blind and Andrew Barber under the gun and Barber would bet after a check from Jamieson. Jamieson then folded and Barber announced "flush," while tabling his AKJ2.

"You win," Fitoussi replied. He threw his cards face down but the dealer turned over his A773, for two pair, nines and sevens, as the rules dictate.

Maksim Pisarenko raised from under the gun and small blind Ari Engel made the call. Nghia Le checked his cards in the big blind and Engel then claimed he saw at least one of them.

"Oh well, let's gamble," Le assessed the situation.

The flop then came AQJ and the action checked to Pisarenko, who led out with a bet. Engel folded and Le called, but the latter would check-fold to another bet on the 3 turn as well, shipping the pot to Pisarenko.
