Saturday brought more poker players to the 2023 World Series of Poker at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas for Day 1b of Event #70: $400 The Colossus. By night’s end, there were 8,188 entries and only 1,021 survived to advance to Day 2. They will join the 965 survivors from Day 1a as the total field reached 15,893 entrants. Which was almost 2,000 more entrants than 2022. Official numbers, including payouts, are expected to be released early on Day 2.

Two-time WSOP bracelet Dan Heimiller bagged a very healthy stack of 979,000. Heimiller has had an impressive summer thus far, cashing in six events for a total of $375,108, bringing his lifetime poker earnings to $6,835,279. His best cash this year was third in the $1,000 Seniors Championship for $356,166,

Although Heimiller had bagged an impressive stack, there were still multiple players bagging over 1,000,000 chips, including David Rivas of Spain (1,327,000), Darrick Arreola (1,315,000), Neng Lee 1,290,000, and Matteo Ferrara (1,100,000).

Vivian Saliba
Vivian Saliba

Vivian Saliba limped the small blind and Gary Yee checked his option.

When the flop of 654 hit the felt, Saliba led for 6,000 and Yee made the call.

The A hit the turn and Saliba fired again, this time for 14,000. Yee wasn't going anywhere as he tossed in the call.

The K landed on the river, and Saliba stacked up her chips for a bet of 24,000. Yee wasted little time making the call and saw the J7 of Saliba, while tabling A2 for top pair.

Andrew Benedict was seen cracking queens with the very same 77 when the fourth diamond hit the river, giving him a flush and pushing him to nearly half a million in chips.

Chris Da-Silva
Chris Da-Silva

Chris Da-Silva called the shove from a short-stacked Andy Chan just after the dinner break.

Andy Chan: J10
Chris Da-Silva: 77

Chan was thrilled to see he wasn't dominated and even more please when the dealer put out the J9Q, giving him a pair of jacks and a straight draw to pull ahead of Da-Silva.

The turn was a 2 and the river was an A, Taking a small dent out of Da-Silva's stack, as he was unable to catch a seven.

Two Ladies for Fraley

Nível 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Christopher Fraley
Christopher Fraley

This hand was relayed to Pokernews by Christopher Fraley:

Shortly before break, Fraley raised under the gun to 3,000 and was immediately met with an all in by the player directly to his left. It folded back around to Fraley and he made the call.

Christopher Fraley: QQ
Early Position: Q8

The flop wasn't much of a sweat as it fanned out 557, the turn locked the hand up for Fraley as the 10 peeled and the A rolled off the deck just due to the dealer's obligation.

Bob's Friend Chait Makes the Right Call

Nível 9 : Blinds 800/1,600, 1,600 ante
Craig Chait
Craig Chait

A player raised in early position to 3,200 and was looked up by both the cutoff and the button before Allen Kessler's friend Elanit Hasas folded the small blind. Bob Mather's friend Craig Chait was in the big blind and made the call.

The action checked through on the Q98 flop, and the 10 hit the turn.

Chait lead out for 7,000 and only the preflop raiser made the call.

When the 7 completed the board, Chait bet 4,000, and his opponent put out a raise to 20,000.

Chait went into the tank saying, "This is so sick, I missed my straight flush draw. But I might just give you the chips."

A few more seconds went by before Chait decided on a call and heard the words he wanted to hear, "Good call."

His opponent tabled 109 and Chait showed J4 for a flush.

"Don't bluff the fish!" Hasas joked as Chait dragged the pot.

Buckner Teaches Etiquette

Nível 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Steven Buckner
Steven Buckner

Steven "Cuz" Buckner got all his chips in the middle against two opponents after a preflop battle, with Buckner claiming he's never folding a hand like that in a $400 tournament.

Short Stack: JJ
Middle Position: AK
Steven Buckner: AK

"You guys are dead!" said the player holding the jacks.

Buckner said, "No we're not!" in reference to there still being some aces and kings left in the deck.

The dealer spread 457.

At this point, a player who had folded chirped in that they had an ace, which launched Buckner into saying, "You don't say that! Not in a tournament... it's absolutely rude."

The dealer then bricked out the Q and the 4 to which Buckner said, "That's fine! A nice guy like you, I don't mind payin'."

Buckner then reiterated the rudeness of the player who was out of the hand to kill their outs like that and the finger turned back on Buckner when he was accused of giving the strength of his hand away before action was complete.

Buckner shook off the accusations, as they were only in reference to him talking preflop and continued to chat with the rest of the players at the table.
