Yuliyan Kolev Goes Into Day 2 as the Chip Leader in Event #65: $5,000 No-Limit Hold'em (6-Max)

Nível 10 : Blinds 1,000/2,000, 2,000 ante
Yuliyan Kolev

Event #65 $5,000 No-Limit Hold’em (6-Max) was a tremendous success here at the 2023 World Series of Poker hosted at the Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. Without counting those that will take advantage of late registration running into Day 2, the 920 attendance from 2022 has already been blown out of the water with 1,098 entries tallied over the course of Day 1. The current prize pool stands at $5,046,200 but won’t be finalized until the first level of Day 2, and shortly after that point, full payouts will be posted.

Only 381 hopefuls remain in the field, but that number will swell some tomorrow, as registration is open until the start of Day 2.

Yuliyan Kolev (521,500) bagged up the biggest stack, but Ting Yi Tsai (471,500), and Ren Lin (368,000) are ahot on his heels moving on to Day 2. You may recall that Kolev captured a bracelet last summer while sporting a KFC bucket as a hat! The flamboyant Bulgarian has every chance of winning his second piece of WSOP hardware thanks to bagging up a big stack.

Li is better known for competing in high-stakes tournaments, having finished second in the $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller for $903,610 at the 2021 WSOP. However, "Tony" has adjusted perfectly to this lower yet still substantial buy-in, and is one to watch going forward.

Popular Italian pro Mustapha Kanit (312,500) also bagged a healthy stack, as did WSOP Thrill Team’s Vanessa Selbst (253,000), and we can’t forget to mention Steffen Sontheimer (238,500) who hasn’t played a tournament before this one in a couple years. That’s only a taste of the talent that will be returning for a chance at a gold bracelet.

The remaining players will be moving to the Horseshoe Ballroom for Day 2, and cards will be in the air at 12:00 p.m. local time on June 28. Play will restart at Level 11 with blinds at 1,000/2,500 with a 2,500 big blind ante. The plan is to play another ten levels, so keep it locked to PokerNews for all the updates from this star-studded event.

Schulman Plays For All of It

Nível 9 : Blinds 1,000/1,500, 1,500 ante
Nick Schulman
Nick Schulman

A player in early position raised to 3,000, Fabrizio Gonzalez called on the button, and when it came to Nick Schulman in the small blind he raised to 13,000.

The initial raiser folded, but Gonzalez made the call. Heads up, they saw the 385 flop. Schulman placed a hefty wager of 21,000 and was called yet again.

The turn brought the 7 and Schulman checked. Gonzalez sized down to 13,000 and Schulman went all in for about 60,000 effective. Gonzalez made the call.

Fabrizio Gonzalez: 67
Nick Schulman: 1010

Schulman was ahead with his over pair, but Gonzalez had a pair to go along with his open-ended straight draw. The river was in favor of the latter, as he caught the 9 on the river to make a straight.

Schulman frowned nonchalantly and paid his opponent the majority of his stack.

Masato Yokosawa
Masato Yokosawa

Juha Helppi opened to 3,000 from under the gun and Masato Yokosawa three-bet to 10,000 in the cutoff. The action was back on Helppi who four-bet to 26,000 and Yokosawa five-bet all in. Helppi called off his stack of around 65,000 and the cards were on their backs.

Juha Helppi: AA
Masato Yokosawa: KK

It was a cooler spot with both players waking up with premium hands. The flop fell K105 and Yokosawa spiked a set of kings to take the lead. The 4 and 7 runout changed nothing and Helppi was sent to the rail.

Heads up to a flop of K94, an opponent checked to Ethan "Rampage" Yau, prompting him to bet 2,000.

His opponent called and the turn peeled the 4 and first to act checked again. This time Yau sized up to 10,000 and his opponent did fold.

Yau has mostly been keeping to himself as he grinds away and builds up his stack.

Barstool Nate Goes For Five

Nível 8 : Blinds 600/1,200, 1,200 ante
Eric Nathan
Eric Nathan

Evgenii Fidchuk raised to 2,500 under the gun, was called by Maria Ho on his left, and when it folded to Eric "Barstool Nate" in the big blind, he also made the call.

Three ways, they saw the 4J10; they all tapped the table and Fidchuk checked the 4 on the turn. Maria Ho went for a bet of 4,000 which was called by Nathan and Fidchuk.

The river brought the 5s and everyone tapped the table again. Nathan turned over 74 for the turned trips, saying, "You don't have to write that one down...", as his opponents' hands hit the muck.

The very next hand, Nathan raised the button to 2,100, Fichuk raised him to 8,000 from the small blind and Nathan came back with a raise to 18,000 that garnered him a fold.

Nathan drove the action preflop yet again, but ended up checking down heads up and winning the pot with ace high.

He won one more pot uncontested after that, then raised yet again before the flop but was three bet by his opponent in late position. Yet again they checked it down, but they both showed ace-queen high to chop the pot, making it five hands in a row that Nathan didn't lose a pot.

Ren Lin
Ren Lin

Ren Lin was just seen raking in a sizeable pot and the table has agreed that the winner must show one card. Lin let his opponent choose a card this time which got a reaction from everyone.

"Cooler! Cooler," Lin continued as the next hand was being dealt.

On the next hand, the button raised to 2,000 and Lin three-bet to 8,000 from the small blind. The big blind four-bet to 28,500 and both the button and Lin folded. Lin picked a card and it was the Q that was shown this time.

"You bluff too much!" Lin continued with some table chat. "This table is fun table."

Lynskey Scores a Massive Double to Top the Counts

Nível 6 : Blinds 400/800, 800 ante
Alex Lynskey
Alex Lynskey

There was a raise to 1,800 in the hijack and Alex Lynskey flat-called from the cutoff. They went heads-up to a flop of Q52 and the action checked to Lynskey who bet 3,000. His opponent check-raised to 10,500 and Lynskey called.

The turn was the J and Lynskey was faced with a bet of 17,500 this time which he still called. The A completed the board and the hijack led out with another bet of 44,000. Lynskey pushed all in for 100,100 and his opponent thought for a moment before dropping in a call.

Lynskey turned over K10 for Broadway while his opponent was left with AQ for two pair. Lynskey earned a massive double-up and is now sitting at the top of the leaderboard.

Foxen Takes it on The Chin

Nível 5 : Blinds 300/600, 600 ante
Kristen Foxen
Kristen Foxen

On a turn reading 464J, Kristen Foxen placed a bet of 10,500 and was called by Eric Baldwin. Heads up, they saw the river peel a 10 and this time Foxen bet everything except for 1,200 chips she left behind. Baldwin raised her and she obliged by putting the rest of her chips in.

She showed the 34 for flopped trips, but Baldwin showed the A4 for a better kicker with his four.

Foxen wished her opponents good luck and left the area but it would be no surprise to see her back in the fray shortly.
