Event #63: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship Begins at 2 PM
Welcome to the Day 1 of Event #63: $10,000 Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship here at the 2023 World Series of Poker at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas. Play will get underway at 2 p.m. local time, taking place at the Paris ballroom.
Almost all of the $10,000 buy-in Championship events this year have seen an increase in field size over the editions held during the 2022 WSOP and it can thus be expected that the stud eight or better event will attract more entries than last year’s number of 137.
The defending champion is Daniel Zack, who captured his second and final bracelet of 2022 in last year’s stud eight or better Championship event, helping cement his position as the eventual Player of the Year winner. He took home $324,174 after besting David Funkhouser during a heads-up battle that lasted eight hours. Mixed game powerhouses Shaun Deeb, Chad Eveslage and Brian Hastings were also present at the final table, but ended up falling short of the title.

Players will start with 60,000 chips. Day 1 will begin with six levels of 40 minutes before they will be increased to 60 minutes for the final four levels of the day. A 15-minute break is to be had after every two hours of play and late registration will be open until the start of Day 2 on Wednesday, June 28th, at 1 p.m.

Bruno Fitoussi just sat down at a table with, among others, Allen Kessler. With a fresh stack of 60,000 chips, the Frenchman immediately expressed that "he knows he can't win" in a conversation with Kesller.

Daniel Negreanu completed to 500 and Esther Taylor raised to 1,000. "She think's it's Nine or Better!" Negreanu joked before calling.
Taylor bet on fourth street and Negreanu called. The two were a bit confused on the betting order on fifth street but eventually Negreanu-check called a bet from Taylor.
Negreanu again check-called on sixth street and once more on seventh street as Taylor revealed the winner. Neither player had a low and her pair of nines beat his pair of deuces.
