It was a battle of the blinds and Wing Liu in the small blind and David Hirst in the big blind were heads-up and all-in with the latter at risk for the 2,250,000 he had in front of him.
David Hirst: A♠K♣
Wing Liu: J♣5♣
The board ran out K♥6♦7♥6♣8♠ for Hirst to flop the pair of kings and turn two pair to double up before the players were sent for their dinner break.
Christopher Perkins was all in from early position for 2,075,000 and Jonathan Melchor made the call as the covering stack.
Christopher Perkins: 9♦6♦
Jonathan Melchor: A♥Xx
The flop killed Perkins' live cards as it rolled off A♠10♦4♣, but he did pick up a flush draw when the 10♦ peeled the turn. No such luck for Perkins as the 4♣ completed the board and sent him to the payouts.
Kenneth Douglas went all in for his remaining and was snap called by Mario Launi in the blind.
Kenneth Douglas: A♠8♦
Mario Launi: A♦A♣
The flop left Douglas wanting for running cards as it peeled the 9♠7♣3x and there was still a chance left for him when the 8♣ peeled on the turn, but he was unable to catch another eight as the 5♥ fell. Launi is now amongst the chip leaders.
Picking up the action partway through the hand, Jerry Giroir in the small blind, Nicholas Ronalds in the big blind and Muaaz Gani in the cutoff all had their chip stacks in the middle.
Jerry Giroir: 4♣4♦
Muaaz Gani: A♦Q♣
Nicholas Ronalds: A♥7♦
The board ran out 6♠Q♥7♠3♦A♠ to send the pot towards Gani as Giroir was forced out of the tournament. Ronalds, meanwhile, was left with a short stack.
Nathan Burnett, Oleksandr Trokhymenko and Jie Fu all had their chips in the middle with the decision on Klas Krueger in the big blind. After much deliberation, Krueger couldn't resist the potential of a triple knockout, as he was the commanding stack. Cards were on the backs and the side pots were yet to be sorted.
The flop spread 3♥6♣Q♦, not eliciting a single response from any of the participants, but upon the 9♥ peeling the turn, Fu burst into celebration as he made a set of nines. The 5♦ changed nothing and a massive pot was pushed to Fu, while Krueger took a big hit.
Nathan Burnett was eliminated in 26th place as the shortest stack and Oleksandr Trokhymenko followed closely behind in 25th place.
