The A♥Q♥6♣ flop would go check-check with Kulev choosing to size up for a pot-sized bet of 3,000,000 on the 2♠ turn, inducing Kornuth to fold the better hand.

Martirosian Gets Kabrhel Off a Chop

Dan Smith raised to 4,000,000 with 3♠3♦ second to act, which prompted everyone else to fold.

Martin Kabrhel then opened to 1,000,000 with A♣J♥ from the button and Artur Martirosian defended his big blind with Q♥9♠.

Both players had a bit of the J♦10♦3♦ flop, with Kabrhel having top pair while Martirosian had an open-ended straight draw.

Action checked through to the A♦ turn which improved Kabrhel to aces and jacks. Martirosian led out for 1,000,000 and Kabrhel called.

The 2♦ river put a flush on the board and Martirosian sized up to 2,400,000 to get Kabrhel off the chop.

The bet worked and Kabrhel folded.

A Couple of All-Ins and a Three-Bet

Kulev would then move all in from the small blind with A♦7♠ against the short stack of Chris Brewer, who made the fold.

Dan Smith nearly committed all of his chips with a raise to 6,000,000 off a stack of 6,200,000, but would fail to find any callers as well.

On the next hand, Dan Smith opened to 1,150,000 from under the gun. Kornuth then jammed as the big stack from the small blind. Martirosian folded in the big blind and Smith called off his 7,450,000 stack.

Brewer Bluffs Kabrhel Heading into the Break

The Q♣J♦10♠ flop appeared and Brewer led out for 500,000 and was called.

Brewer paired up on the 8♥ turn but was still behind. Both players checked and the A♠ completed the board. Short stack Brewer made it 1,800,000 and Kabrhel folded the winner.

That marked the last hand before the break and the players will return in 15-minutes time.

Phil Galfond Offers Poker Hall of Fame Pick; Says Two Should Be Inducted Per Year

Phil Galfond has yet to make an appearance at the 2023 World Series of Poker (WSOP), and as he told PokerNews, right now he has no plans to play live.

“But who knows, plans change,” added Galfond, who has been playing online at WSOP.com.

While Galfond hasn’t been at the WSOP – well, at least Phil as his wife, Farah Galfond, has been competing – the three-time bracelet winner is still weighing in by his relatively new newsletter “PG’s Takes of the Week.”

One of the topics the online poker legend, who prior to the WSOP inserted himself in some drama involving Doug Polk and Charlie Carrel with a pointed letter, was that of the Poker Hall of Fame. Right now, the public is being solicited for nomination.

“The nominations for the Poker Hall of Fame are now open, presenting voters with a familiar dilemma: there are simply too many great options to choose from,” Galfond wrote before giving his picks.

Alex Kulev raised to 1,500,000 from middle position with two red queens Q♥Q♦ and was called by Artur Martirosian in the big blind with K♦3♦.

The pot began to build on the monotone flop of 3♥10♥5♥ when Martirosian check-raised a 600,000 chip continuation-bet from Kulev to 2,100,000, with Kulev making the call.

Martirosian slowed down with a check on the J♦ turn and folded to a down-sized bet of 1,500,000 from Kulev. Kulev extends his chip lead.

Smith checked the A♥9♥5♠ flop and called for 800,000 when Kornuth made a continuation-bet.

Smith added a pair of threes to his flush draw on the 3♠ turn but Kornuth's pair of nines were still ahead.

Action checked through to the 10♥ to complete Smith's flush draw. Action checked through to showdown and Smith collected another pot off Kornuth.
