Welcome to Event #28: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout

Today’s entertaining adventure in the 2023 World Series of Poker begins at Horseshoe and Paris Las Vegas with Event #28: $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Freezeout. The tournament structure and buy-in will be sure to attract many elite and top-notch players due to the freezeout structure. This event is scheduled for three days.

Justin Pechie won this tournament last year for $364,899 and his second career WSOP gold bracelet. Pechie’s first bracelet came in 2011, winning Event #41: $1,500 Limit Hold’em Shootout for $167,060. Pechie has been spotted competing in other events at the series this year, so he will very likely show up to defend his title.

Last year a total of 1,774 players took a shot to win the $2,368,290 prize pool. This year is expected to surpass those numbers with a record number of entrants.

Cards will be in the air at 10 a.m. local time and players begin with 25,000 chips. Blinds start at 100/100 with a 100 big blind ante and levels are 40 minutes, with a 20-minute break at the conclusion of every three levels. A 75-minute dinner break is also on the schedule after Level 12 and is expected to be around 7:00 p.m. Late registration ends the dinner break, expected to be around 8:00 p.m.

Two Pair for Valli

Joao Valli raised in the cutoff to 300 and the player in the big blind reraised to 1,100, Valli called.

The flop came out K♣2♣2♦ and both players checked.

Action on the turn of 8♠ had a bet of 700 by the big blind and a reraise of 2,500 by Valli. The big blind called.

The river brought the 5♣ and the big blind checked and Valli bet 4,500 and was called.

Valli turned over K♠5♠ for two pair and the big blind mucked.

Valli ran deep in the Mystery Millions event and won a nice bounty prize of $25,000.

Aalvik with an Early Score

The board read A♠4♦9♥8♥2♣ and the pot was about 8,000 and Davis Aalvik bet 6,300 after being checked to by the player under the gun.

The player under the gun called fairly quickly and flopped over A♦8♠ for two pair but Aalvik showed A♣9♠ for the better two pair and the win.

Nut Flush for the Win

Kirk Acevedo, who was under the gun, raised preflop to 900 and Mike Allis in the small blind reraised to 1.300. Acevedo raised again to 5,500 and Allis called.

The flop came A♦7♠10♠ and Allis checked, Acevedo bet 3,500 and Allis raised to 10,000, Acevedo called.

The 4♠ on the turn brought all of the action when Allis moved his chips in the pot and Acevedo called, at risk with only 30,500.

Allis was drawing dead on the river with the Q♥ and Acevedo won a substantial pot with the nut flush.

Daniels Jumps into Mix Instantly with Straight Flush

The players relayed an exciting hand that occurred.

Jake Daniels raised in the cutoff position and the player on the button called.

The flop came out 7♥6♥8♥ and Daniels bet 800 and the button called.

The turn showed the 5♠ and Daniels bet 1,000, the button reraised to 2,800 and Daniels then made it 6,300. The button thought for awhile and folded face up 8x8x for the set. Daniels turned over 9♥5♥ for the straight flush and was off to a good start.

The player under the gun raised to 1,000, Jeff Madsen in middle position called and the player on the button reraised to 2,500. The under-the-gun player called and Madsen had the time clock called on him as he contemplated his decision. Madsen then reraised for all of his chips, around 24,000.

The button called and the under-the-gun player folded.

Chang Survives Clash with Brenes
