A Winner Will be Crowned Today in Event #25: Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship

Erik Seidel
Erik Seidel

With seven players remaining after three days of split-pot action, Event #15: Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship begins its conclusion at 2 p.m. local time inside the Horseshoe and Paris, Las Vegas.

PokerNews live updates will be on a 90-minute delay, as to not affect the PokerGO broadcast, which gets going at 4:30 p.m. local time.

Attendance records have been falling left and right at the 2023 World Series of Poker and The Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship is no exception, garnering an all-time high 212 entries and creating a total prize pool of $1,971,600, with $492,795 and the desired gold bracelet being awarded to the eventual winner.

The final seven players have all guaranteed themselves a payday of at least $61,919 and will be gunning for the Day 4 chip leader, former bracelet winner, Ben Lamb. However, there are only a few big bets that separate Lamb from the other big stacks of Poker Hall of Famer and nine-time bracelet winner, Erik Seidel, who bagged up 2,360,000 in chips and four-time bracelet winner, Brad Ruben, right behind with 2,005,000.

If Seidel can manage to finish on top, he’ll join the ranks of Phil Ivey, Johnny Chan and Doyle Brunson with ten WSOP gold bracelets, further solidifying him as one of the all-time legends of the game.

Bracelet winner Johannes Becker from Germany and the U.S.'s James Chen will be looking for some run-good, as they will start the day as the two short stacks, however, because of the nature of the game and the deep structure, either player could potentially be the new chip leader after just one or two pots in which they scoop or take three-quarters.

Players will be returning to Level 25 with blinds at 50,000/100,000 and limits of 100,000/200,000, playing 90-minute levels until the eventual winner is crowned.

Chen Scoops Seidel for a Full Double-Up, Then Chops Velador's Chips with Becker in Back-To-Back Hands

Nível 25 : Limits 100,000/200,000, 0 ante
James Chen (US)
James Chen (US)

James Chen raised from early position and was three-bet by Erik Seidel from middle position. Chen made the call and the two players took a heads-up flop of J4Q. Chen would check-raise Seidel all-in and the cards were on their backs.

James Chen: AKQ3
Erik Seidel: AAQ2

Seidel's pair of aces were in the lead over Chen's top pair of queens on the board, but the 10 on the river would give Chen a broadway straight and full double-up.

Chen would be involved in the next hand as well after calling a raise from the big blind against an early position raise from Johannes Becker and call from Luis Velador on the button.

Both Chen and Velador would call a flop bet from Becker and then check down the remaining two streets on a final board of 2267J.

Chen would chop with Becker, continuing to chip up after starting the day as one of the short stacks.

Lamb Extends Chip Lead With Back-to-Back Scoops

Nível 25 : Limits 100,000/200,000, 0 ante
Ben Lamb
Ben Lamb

Brad Ruben opened from late position and Ben Lamb defended the big blind.

Lamb check-called a bet from Ruben on the 522 flop and both players checked the 9 turn.

Lamb would then lead out on the 10 river and Ruben made the call to see Lamb's two pair as he tabled QQ54 for queens and fives.

In the next hand, Lamb would get involved with Luis Velador, as he three-bet a late position raise from the small blind and comment, "probably a good call," as Velador put in the calling chips.

Lamb continued the preflop aggression by betting on the J9A flop and Velador would call.

Both players checked the 3 turn and the 3d] river, with Lamb tabling A10102 for two pair, growing his chip count to around the four million mark.

Johannes Becker Eliminated in 7th Place ($61,919)

Nível 25 : Limits 100,000/200,000, 0 ante
Johannes Becker
Johannes Becker

Ben Lamb raised in the cutoff and was called by Johannes Becker in the small blind and Erik Seidel in the big blind.

"How much do you have?" Lamb inquired and Becker replied he started the hand with 900k. The flop came AK9 and it checked to Lamb, who bet. Becker mulled it over to then check-raise for Seidel to fold and Lamb made it three bets to earn a call from Becker.

On the 8 turn, Becker had fewer than two bets behind and bet, Lamb raised and the German called it off.

Johannes Becker: AKQ10
Ben Lamb: AA94

Becker was in dire shape with his top two pair and needed a jack to survive, as he held no low draw. The 5 fell on the river and ended his run in seventh place for $61,919.

The action started with a raise by James Chen and Brad Ruben called in the cutoff, as did Luis Velador. Once Ben Lamb called in the big blind, Velador joked "oh no, not that guy again" and Lamb replied "I probably gonna buy it" before they headed to the AK3 flop.

Lamb bet and that forced out Chen while Ruben then opted to raise. Velador got out of the way and Lamb inquired how much Ruben had behind before he called.

"You got four?!" Lamb asked once more and Ruben nodded when they were on the 2 turn. Lamb then bet, Ruben got it in and was snapped off.

Brad Ruben: A722
Ben Lamb: AQ54

Lamb had hit gin on the turn with the wheel and nut low but wasn't secured the entire pot yet against a set and flush draw. However, the J river was a brick and that knocked out Ruben in sixth place in the last hand before the first break.

Shortly after the previous chop, Yass was all-in for 320,000 preflop and looked up by the run-away chip leader Ben Lamb.

Robert Yass: A733
Ben Lamb: AQ76

The J98 flop was bad news for Yass while the 5 turn locked up half the pot already. Yass then missed the low draw with the K and bowed out in fifth place.

Jose Luis Velador
Jose Luis Velador

Ben Lamb raised first to act and was called by James Chen with the AJ52, Luis Velador also stuck around as they went three ways to the KJ8 flop. Chen opted to check and Velador bet. Lamb eyeballed the stack of his opponent and called, as did Chen and they headed to the 6 on the turn.

Chen checked again and Velador bet, Lamb raised and that sent Chen into the tank before he folded. Velador got it in for 635,000 and Lamb called as they flipped over their cards.

Luis Velador: KQJ8
Ben Lamb: AK72

The Q on the river failed to improve Lamb and he also missed the low to see Velador triple up while Chen was now the far shortest stack.
