The elite of the poker world and some deep-pocketed amateurs will help kick off the 2023 World Series of Poker when Event #2: $25,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em begins at 2 p.m. local time inside the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino.
This event is a new addition to the WSOP schedule, so one lucky player will get to call themselves the inaugural champion by the end. In 2022, the high roller no-limit hold’em events were won by a veritable who’s who of poker superstars, including David Peters and Alex Foxen. A similar field featuring the top names in the game is expected today. Some of the players who have already signaled their intention to play include Daniel Negreanu, Darren Elias, Mike Matusow, 2021 Player of the Year Josh Arieh, 2013 Main Event champion Ryan Riess, and Ben Mintz.
Players begin the tournament with a starting stack of 150,000 and blinds at 1,000/1,000 with a 1,000 big blind ante. Day 1 consists of eight 60-minute levels with a 15-minute break after every two levels. Late registration will remain open until the start of Day 2 at noon Wednesday, with players allowed one reentry. This event will utilize a 30-second shot clock.
The year-long wait is over. The 2023 WSOP is finally here. Poker players from around the world will get a chance to add a coveted gold bracelet and cement their place in WSOP history. It all begins today and PokerNews will be following along and providing live updates and chip counts throughout the day.
Prior to the start of the event, WSOP Vice President Jack Effel asked everyone in the room to observe a moment of silence for the legendary Doyle Brunson. A video tribute to Brunson was played before players began shuffling in and taking their seats.

Heads-up on a flop of 8♠4♦Q♦, Daniel Negreanu bet 7,000 before Dylan Linde raised to 16,000. Negreanu quickly called to see the A♣ turn.
Negreanu checked over to Linde this time and Linde bet out 30,000. "Three fours?" Negreanu asked before he tossed his cards in the muck.
"Big hand on the flop," Negreanu added. Linde showed him the 3♠ before taking in the pot.
"Oh, he got me," Negreanu said with a laugh.

Alex Foxen raised to 3,000 from under the gun and Seth Davies defended his big blind.
Both players checked the 6♣4♣5♦ flop before the 10♠ fell on the turn. Davies checked once more and Foxen fired out 4,000.
Davies called to see the J♣ river, where Foxen bet another 5,500. Davies now came back with a raise to 25,000 and Foxen quickly announced he was all in.
Davies, with around 60,000 remaining, used nearly all his time bank before sliding his cards into the muck.

Shaun Deeb raised to 3,000 from the button before Corel Theuma, in the small blind, moved all in for around 20,000. Kevin Rabichow in the big blind gave it some thought before he moved all in for around 50,000. "Call," Deeb quickly said, having both players covered.
Corel Theuma: Q♠4♠
Kevin Rabichow: A♥Q♣
Shaun Deeb: A♦K♥
Deeb was ahead and poised for a double knockout as the flop came J♠7♠6♦. The 8♠ fell on the turn to improve Theuma to a flush and he secured the triple up when the 7♥ came on the river. Deeb won the side pot with his king-kicker to send Rabichow to the rail.
