Altman Wins Without a Showdown

Nível 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Brian Altman and an under-the-gun player each put in 3,000 before the flop as the dealer turned over {3-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{6-Spades}. Both players checked.

The turn came the {a-Clubs} and Altman's opponent began betting, firing up 3,300. Altman quickly called and they saw the {9-Clubs} on the river.

The under-the-gun player bet again, putting in 11,000 as he stared back at Altman, his chin cupped in his hands. Altman quickly called.

His opponent immediately mucked his hand and Altman, as well, returned his cards face down, winning the pot without a showdown.

Zawadzki Bests the 'Most Interesting Man in Poker'

Nível 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Mikolaj Zawadzki
Mikolaj Zawadzki

Action was picked up when Chris Richardson raised his action from the small blind and it folded around to Mikolaj Zawadzki in late position.

"Can I see how many chips you are playing with sir? " Zawadzki asked and Richardson then comically placed all his chips on the felt in singles.

"Ok ok I am satisfied, you are most interesting man in poker, I call," Zawadzki responded as he threw out the call.

The flop was {8-Spades}{6-Diamonds}{q-Spades} and Richardson bet 6,500 and Zawadzki called.

The turn came the {2-Diamonds} and Zawadzki called a bet of 8,000 from Richardson.

But on the {k-Hearts} river, Richardson checked, to which Zawadzki bet 22,000. This sent Richardson deep into the tank, as he only had around 26,000 left in his stack. After nearly two minutes he picked up two black chips and pretended they were Oreos to reenact a scene from the movie Rounders, either for comic relief or some new strategy no one knew.

"If I fold will you show? " He eventually asked.

"I let you pick one," Zawadzki said with a smile. Richardson just laughed and after another few moments he tossed in his cards face-up, showing {a-Hearts}{q-Clubs}. Zawadzki then offered his cards for him to expose one but he refused, much to the dismay of the table.

Will the 2022 WSOP Main Event Smash the Attendance Record?

Nível 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
WSOP Money
WSOP Money

It doesn't take a rocket scientist to realize that the tables have been packed at the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP), the first year the series has been held at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas. But how will that translate into attendance in the most important event of them all — the Main Event?

Last year was a unique WSOP in that the series was held in the fall and only those vaccinated against COVID-19 were permitted to play. Still, the field in the $10,000 buy-in world championship event attracted 6,650 entries, impressive considering the circumstances, but nearly 2,000 fewer than in 2019 (the live WSOP was canceled in 2020).

Outside of the venue switch, things are back to normal this summer. So, we'll compare turnout up to this point at the 2022 WSOP to similar events in 2019 as we attempt to handicap turnout in the upcoming Main Event, which begins later today.

Towner Isn't Greedy

Nível 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

Mitchell Towner, champion of the 2016 Monster Stack event, called a 3,300 bet from Bin Weng on a board of {j-Spades}{a-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{9-Spades}.

The river came the {a-Diamonds} and Towner checked over to Weng, who checked behind. Towner showed {a-Hearts}{k-Clubs} for top two pair to take the pot.

"You were happy with what you got," a tablemate said to Towner following the hand.

"I wouldn't mind a small bet," Towner replied.

Aleksejs Ponakovs, who defeated Phil Ivey to win the $100,000 High Roller earlier this series, is also seated at this table.

Fei Among Leaders

Nível 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Wesley Fei
Wesley Fei

PokerNews was called over as Wesley Fei was excitedly ready to count his stack and tell about a big hand he just won to launch his stack toward the top of the counts.

As he counted it out, he told how he had {k-}{k-} on a board of {q-}{j-}{7-}{9-}. He check-jammed all in and got a call from his opponent who had {a-}{q-}. The river was another {9-} and Fei's overpair held to bust the departed player holding ace-queen and give Fei the substantial pot.

Filatov Encounters No Resistance

Nível 4 : 300/500, 500 ante
Anatoly Filatov
Anatoly Filatov

A player in early position limped, as did a player in middle position and the button. Anatoly Filatov checked his option out of the big blind to send action four-way to the flop.

All players checked on the {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} flop to the {a-Hearts} turn. Filatov then led out for 2,000 and was met by three quick folds to add some chips to the Russian's still anaemic stack.

Patel Ousts Opponent in Classic Flip

Nível 4 : 300/500, 500 ante

A player in early position ended up getting their stack of approximately 37,000 in preflop and was at risk against Chiraag Patel from one seat over.

At-Risk Player: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}
Chiraag Patel: {a-Clubs}{k-Spades}

It was the most classic of races, and the {a-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop vaulted Patel into the lead. The {10-Spades} turn left his opponent needing a river queen, but the {4-Hearts} completed the board to secure the pot for Patel.
