Bubble Set to Burst on Day 2 of Event #78: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em

Bally's Ballroom
Bally's Ballroom

Following Monday's action, just 257 players out of 1,364 entries were able to clear the first hurdle and make it through to Day 2 of Event #78: $2,500 No-Limit Hold'em, which kicks off at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 12th.

The 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas has produced some bumper prize pools and first-place payouts, and the trend has continued for this event. A huge $3,034,900 has been collected with $499,636 up top for the winner, along with the WSOP bracelet.

However, not every player who takes their seat today will be walking away with a return on their investment. The top 205 players will make the money and lock up the $4,009 min-cash while the top five finishers will earn six-figure paydays.

Those towards the lower end of the chip counts who risk bubbling this event include Blair Hinkle (41,000), Chance Kornuth (53,000), Paulina Loeliger (43,000), Harry Lodge (74,000), and Phil Laak (74,000).

On the opposite side of the spectrum are the likes of Day 1 chip leader Ben Jones (738,000), Axel Hallay (464,000) and Bryn Kenney (484,000), who will all be looking to register deep runs. The latter is just one of a few names that have had a dark cloud hanging over them at the 2022 WSOP, because of allegations of cheating that surfaced earlier this year. Kenney has denied any wrongdoing.

Day 2 restarts in Bally’s Red and play will resume on Level 16 where the blinds are 3,000/6,000 with 6,000 big blind ante. Ten 60-minute levels will be played today with a 15-min break taking place every two levels. There will be a one-hour dinner break after Level 21 (≈ 8:30 p.m.).

Scott Seiver
Scott Seiver

With a board showing of {k-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{q-Spades}, Julien Loire checked to Scott Seiver in the cutoff who bet 32,000. Loire called to see the river which was a {q-Diamonds}. Loire checked the river and Seiver moved all in and received a call right away. Loire showed {k-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and it was good to take down the pot, leaving Seiver with 48,000 in chips.

In the next hand, Eli Berg raised to 15,000, Seiver pushed his stack in and Berg called. The cards were on their backs and the dealer laid out the board.

Scott Seiver: {7-Spades}{7-Hearts}
Eli Berg: {k-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}

The board ran out {a-Clubs}{6-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{k-Clubs} and the seven on the turn gave Seiver a set which was good for a double up.

In the very next had Seiver raised to 16,000 preflop and received a call from Brian Keith Etheridge. The flop came down {8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{3-Clubs} and Etheridge check-called Seiver's 16,000 bet.

The turn was a {5-Clubs} and it was checked to Seiver again who moved all in.

Brian Keith Etheridge: {2-Hearts}{2-Clubs}
Scott Seiver: {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}

Paulina Loeliger
Paulina Loeliger

There was 90,000 in the pot on the {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{a-Spades} board. Daan Mulders bet 95,000 from the small blind and Paulina Loeliger called from the cutoff.

Mulders jammed as the covering stack on the {9-Diamonds} river. Loeliger, with around 200,000 behind, called.

Mulders had turned a full house with his {a-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds} while Loeliger improved to a better two pair on the river with her {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}. However, her hand was mucked and she headed to the payout desk.

As the hand ended, action was caught on another table where Chance Kornuth was all-in for his tournament life while Kenny Hallaert and Jason Aden were still active.

Hallaert bet 85,000 on the river, with the board showing the {2-Hearts}{8-Spades}{4-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}. Aden called and the players tabled their hands.

Chance Kornuth: {7-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}
Kenny Hallaert: {a-Hearts}{3-Clubs}
Jason Aden: {q-Hearts}{q-Spades}

Nível 22 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
David Miscikowski
David Miscikowski

Abhinav Iyer in the small blind called to see the flop and David Miscikowski checked his option. The flop came down {j-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{4-Clubs} and Iyer checked to Miscikowski who bet 25,000 which Iyer then called.

The {6-Diamonds} turn had Iyer check-calling an 80,000 continuation-bet from Miscikowski.

A {7-Diamonds} fell on the river and Iyer once again checked. Miscikowski bet 250,000 and Iyer went into the tank for a while before tossing in a few red chips to indicate he was calling. Miscikowski flipped over {6-Clubs}{8-Spades} for trip sixes on the turn and that was good to take down the pot as Iyer tossed his cards into the muck.
