Nível 25
Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman

A wild and fast-paced day of eliminations has left some familiar names from the poker history books to battle for a bracelet on Saturday on the final day of the World Series of Poker Event #72: $1,500 Mixed Omaha.

Hendon Mob co-founder and two-time WSOP bracelet winner Barny Boatman (2,480,000) and seven-time bracelet winner Men "The Master" Nguyen (2,480,000) hold two of the three biggest remaining stacks, trailing just Mark Erickson (2,580,000) for the chip lead entering Saturday’s final day of play.

They'll be joined by some other big names, including five-time bracelet winner Adam Friedman (1,190,000), who'll be looking for his second bracelet of the summer. Last year's third-place finisher in this event, Scott Abrams is still in the mix with 890,000, and another old-school legend in two-time bracelet winner Mel Judah has a competitive stack of 815,000 to work with. Two-time bracelet winner Rami Boukai will return with one of the shorter remaining stacks with 385,000.

They'll all strive for the $195,565 first prize and that prestigious WSOP gold bracelet.

Recap of the Day

Men Nguyen
Men Nguyen

With 223 players returning Friday, the potential for a wild day of rapid eliminations was certainly there, and the action did not disappoint. Before the second break of the day, the field was already down to the 116-player bubble with no hand-for-hand play even needed as Michel Abecassis was busted by Anthony Nguyen to ensure everyone left earned at least $2,413.

Among those unfortunate to not cash were Daniel Negreanu, Sam Farha, Shaun Deeb, and last year’s runner-up in this event Hernan Salazar.

Those who managed to make the money but fell short of Day 3 included 2021 fifth-place finisher Damjan Radanov (112th - $2,413), Day 1 chip leader Kate Krickl (95th - $2,639), two-time bracelet winner Brandon Shack-Harris (72nd - $3,016), three-time bracelet winner Chance Kornuth (45th - $4,113), and two-time bracelet winner Nathan Gamble (38th - $4,713).

As for those still in the hunt Saturday, Boatman scored a huge double knockout late in the day to boost his stack amidst the leaders, while after dropping below 400,000, Nguyen rebuilt "masterfully" to finish with his healthy stack. Erickson helped with a knockout late in the day to ensure his spot atop the chip counts for Saturday's finale.

With so many events running Saturday at the WSOP, this event will be wrapping up in the green section of the Paris Ballroom at 2 p.m. Las Vegas time. Play will begin with Level 26 and as many 60-minute levels as needed to crown a champion.

PokerNews will be there for all the action, so keep it locked right here for updates throughout the day from the new home of the WSOP at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

Big O

All the chips went into the middle on a flop of {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}{2-Spades}, with Robert Erickson on the button at risk for a gargantuan 1,234,000. Erickson was up against Michael Popejoy in the big blind.

Robert Erickson: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{2-Hearts}
Michael Popejoy: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}{k-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}

Erickson flopped the joint by hitting a boat of jacks full of twos. There was no help for Popejoy as the runout of {4-Spades}{q-Spades} completed the board to give Erickson a double and the chip lead.

After stacking his chips Erickson asked the PokerNews reporter to confirm what hand he had. After being told of his hole cards Erickson chirped "That is a f**king good hand!"

Barny Boatman

Big O

Barny Boatman in early position bet 30,000 and was met with a pot-sized bet of 108,000 from Laurette Thurber in middle position. Boatman made the call.

Boatman checked the flop of {j-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades} and Thurber bet pot before instantly receiving a pot bet back from Boatman, Thurber called to go all in for 325,000.

Laurette Thurber: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}
Barny Boatman: {a-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Hearts}

Boatman was ahead with trip nines but Thurber had an up and down straight draw. The {6-Diamonds} on the turn gave Thurber additional flush outs but the {10-Hearts} river was a brick and Boatman scooped the pot and increased his dominant lead.

Taylor Sends Friedman into the Blender

Esther Taylor

Big O

Picking action up on a {3-Clubs}{q-Clubs}{6-Clubs} flop, James Chen checked in the small blind and Esther Taylor tossed out a bet of 10,000, saying "small, small."

Adam Friedman called in the cutoff and Chen called as well.

On the {j-Clubs} turn, Chen checked again, and along with another declaration of "small, small," Taylor bet 50,000. Friedman called again, but Chen folded.

The {10-Clubs} came on the river, and Taylor was no longer betting "small," as she put forward a bet of 105,000.

Friedman then went deep into the tank, with Taylor teasing him, by pretending to toss her cards at him, singing, and saying amongst other things "after all these years, you owe me."

Friedman apologized to the table for his lengthy contemplation then glanced at Taylor, who playfully said "Don't look at me, I'm always smiling. You can't get a read on me!"

After a couple of playful bursts of "c'mon!" from Taylor, Friedman begrudgingly folded, suggesting that he folded a king-high flush.

Taylor flashed the {a-Clubs} and tossed her cards to the dealer as the pot was pushed her way.

Roth Gets Full Scoop From Nguyen

Big O

All the chips were in the middle on the flop of {7-Spades}{4-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} with Michelle Roth in the big blind at risk for 376,000 against Men Nguyen in the small blind.

Michelle Roth: {a-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{2-Spades}
Men Nguyen: {a-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{2-Hearts}

Both players hit a nut low, but Nguyen had two pair with sevens and threes and Roth had a wheel wrap.

The {8-Spades} on the turn gave Roth a flush draw, but the {2-Clubs} on the river improved Roth to a wheel and scooped the entire pot to catapult them to the top half of the leaderboard.

Boatman Busts Two to Vault Into Chip Lead

Nível 22
Barny Boatman
Barny Boatman

Big O

Michael Romanos raised the size of the pot in early position and was called by Barny Boatman in the small blind and Rob Hollink in the big blind.

On the {6-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop, the players all checked. Things would get very messy on the turn, however.

The dealer dropped the {9-Diamonds} on the board, and Boatman bet pot. Hollink called and Romanos re-potted all in for about 360,000. Boatman moved in and Hollink called for a bit under 500,000.

The {q-Hearts} fell on the river giving Boatman a huge win with {a-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Clubs}{7-Spades}{3-Hearts} for a set of tens that rivered the nut flush with no low on board. Hollink's cards went into the muck, and Romanos showed {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} for a turned straight, which was crushed on the river by Boatman, sending him to the rail as well.

Big O

After Men Nguyen raised on the button, he was called by Michael Popejoy in the small blind.

On the {k-Spades}{3-Spades}{10-Clubs} flop, Popejoy led for the size of the pot and was re-potted by Nguyen to 194,000.

Popejoy then potted it again to 630,000, which would be a majority of Nguyen's roughly 900,000 remaining stack.

After several minutes of counting the pot, deliberation, and a bit of back and forth chat, Nguyen folded face up, showing {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}{7-Spades}{6-Hearts}{2-Clubs} for top pair, top kicker with the nut flush draw.

Thurber Takes From Kornuth

Limit Omaha 8 or Better

On a {10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{j-Spades} flop, Mark Jenkins checked from the small blind, Chance Kornuth bet from the big blind and Laurette Thurber called in the hijack. Jenkins then also called and the trio saw a turn card.

That turn was the {7-Diamonds}, and after Jenkins checked again, Kornuth bet once more and Thurber called again, leaving herself just 40,000 behind. Jenkins folded to leave the pot heads-up.

On the river {9-Clubs}, Kornuth slowed down and checked. Thurber then took both of her her yellow towers of T-1,000 chips and slid them forward, only to be reminded she could only bet one of them for 20,000.

Kornuth tossed in calling chips and saw Thurber table {a-Clubs}{q-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{8-Spades} for a queen-high straight, which prompted Kornuth to toss his cards into the muck.

Day 1 Chip Leader Kate Krickl struggled to keep her momentum going today and has been eliminated by Barny Boatman.

Krickl got her last 24,000 in preflop against Boatman, while Stanley Krimerman folded {a-Spades}{a-Clubs}{x-}{x-} face up, saying he wanted to be nice and give Krickl a better chance of survival.

Krimerman makes Incredible (and Correct) Fold

Nível 18
Stanley Krimerman
Stanley Krimerman

Big O

"Stan Diego" Stanley Krimerman has proven to be arguably the most colorful character in the field over the past two days with his open shirts, protruding chest hair and a bit of beverage consumption. He's also showed he's got some chops on the felt, with the following hand a shining example.

Gregory Kolo bet pot preflop from the button and was called by Krimerman in the small blind.

The flop came {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}, and Krimerman check-called another pot-sized bet.

On the {q-Hearts} turn, both players checked.

The river brought the {5-Clubs}, pairing the board, and after checking, Krimerman faced a bet of 40,000.

At that point, Krimerman said he flopped a set, turned the nut flush draw, then filled up on the river. He then showed {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}{9-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-} and folded face up, sending nines full into the muck.

Kolo indulged Krimerman by showing that his fold was indeed correct as he showed {5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}{x-}{x-}{x-} for rivered quad fives.
