$1,500 Mixed Omaha Kicks off Thursday

Dylan Linde

While the last few days of the World Series of Poker schedule has been rather Hold’em heavy, with much of the fanfare centered around the opening days of the Main Event, fans of four and five-card games return to the room Thursday with Day 1 of Event #72: $1,500 Mixed Omaha.

The opening day of this event, which features Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better, Limit Omaha 8 or Better, and Big O (5 Card Pot-Limit Omaha 8 or Better) in a set rotation that changes every seven hands, is certain to bring out some of the brightest mixed game stars in the world (that aren’t currently playing the Main Event).

Last year saw the man who literally wrote the book on mixed games, Dylan Linde, take home his first-ever bracelet in this event. Linde, who authored the outstanding book “Mastering Mixed Games” defeated a field of 641 entries to earn that bracelet along with the $170,269 first prize.

It will be interesting to see how large the field becomes, as last year’s event was near the beginning of the series and this year's is near the end. The 2021 edition garnered a prize pool of $855,735, and with so many events this summer crushing previous field records and the popularity of the games in this mix, it’s certain another huge field will be coming out for this one.

Play gets underway in the Paris Ballroom at 3 p.m. PT, with 15 40-minute levels on tap for Day 1, with 15-minute breaks every three levels. Late registration will be open for nine levels (until about 9:45 p.m.) and two reentries are allowed.

The PokerNews live reporting team will bring you all the excitement from this and every event from the 53rd World Series of Poker at it’s new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.
