Gianera in Contention Heading into Day 4 of Event #59: $1,000 Super Seniors

Nível 30 : 100,000/150,000, 150,000 ante
Jennifer Gianera
Jennifer Gianera

Jennifer Gianera ended Day 3 of Event #59: $1,000 Super Seniors No-Limit Hold'em as second in chips having briefly taken over the chip lead from Massoud Eskandari in one of the last hands of the night, after he completely dominated all day at the 2022 World Series of Poker from its new home at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas.

However, Eskandari retook the lead with the last hand of the night. He was chip leader for almost all of the 12 hours of play as he chased his first WSOP bracelet.

The remaining five players will return at 11 a.m. local time on Friday, July 1 to battle for bracelet glory. Action will resume with blinds at 100,000/200,000 with a 200,000 big blind ante and 60-minute levels.

Eskandari already has more than $2,700,000 in live earnings and a win here will move him over the $3,000,000 mark with the grand prize of $330,609. Gianera has just over $80,000 in live earnings with her biggest cash being a victory in the Heartland Poker Tour Main Event at the start of 2020 for almost $40,000. She has already topped that score heading into the final day as each player is guaranteed at least $65,468.

Notables who were eliminated early in the day include defending champion Jean-Luc Adam. He was eliminated early in the day as he bowed out in 40th place ($8,325), along with actor James Woods in 42nd ($8,325). Two-time bracelet winner Barny Boatman also exited early in the day as he was eliminated in 68th ($4,915) having entered the day as a top ten stack. Peter Kamaras was eliminated on the final table bubble in 11th ($23,995).

The final table started with the elimination of PT Hayes in 10th ($23,995) as he was one of many victims of Eskandari's reign of terror throughout the day. Mark Walters was next to be eliminated in 9th ($30,446) as he lost a blind vs blind all-in against Peter Mylenki's pocket tens. Brit Gary Fisher was next to be eliminated in 8th ($38,964) as his pocket queens were no match for Gianera's pocket kings. The penultimate elimination of the day was Eric Van Der Burg in 7th ($50,293) who was also a victim of pocket kings at the hands of Sharri Crawford.

Play concluded when Bruce Olson was eliminated in 6th ($65,468) after his ace-jack was defeated by Eskandari's ace-king. With Gianera and Crawford still in contention the WSOP may not have to wait until the conclusion of the Ladies event for its second female champion at Bally's after Katie Kopp won Event #1: $500 Employees Event.

Bruce Olson

Massoud Eskandari opened to 500,000 and Bruce Olson shoved for 3,000,000. Eskandari called.

Bruce Olson: {a-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}
Massoud Eskandari: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}

Olson was in trouble against the ace-kicker of Eskandari and the {k-Hearts}{8-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{j-Spades}{8-Hearts} runout sealed his fate.

He picks up more than $65,000 for his final table run.

James Jewell
James Jewell

Massoud Eskandari raised to 400,000 and James Jewell three-bet to 900,000.

Eskandari called and the flop came {q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Jewell shoved for 3,480,000 and Eskandari tanked.

He asked for a count, counted his own stack and the pot, then called.

James Jewell: {k-Clubs}{q-Spades}
Massoud Eskandari: {j-Hearts}{j-Clubs}

Jewell was in a great position and the {3-Spades}{7-Spades} runout sent him the pot.

Eric Van Der Burg
Eric Van Der Burg

Eric Van Der Burg moved all in from early position for 1,700,000. He was called by Sharri Crawford in the big blind.

Eric Van Der Burg: {9-Spades}{8-Spades}
Sharri Crawford: {k-Hearts}{k-Clubs}

Van Der Burg needed some help as he was up against Crawford's cowboys. The flop gave him some hope as it came {j-Clubs}{10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds} giving him an open-ended straight draw. However he was dead on the turn as it came the {10-Clubs} eliminating him from the tournament in 7th for $50,293. The {j-Diamonds} river was irrelevant.

Gary Fisher raised to 300,000 from under the gun. Action folded to Jennifer Gianera in the small blind who raised to 1,000,000. Fisher instantly announced all in for approximately 5,000,000. Gianera snap-called and the cards were turned up.

Gary Fisher: {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}
Jennifer Gianera: {k-Clubs}{k-Spades}

Fisher saw the bad news that he needed some help to remain in the tournament. However it didn't come as the board ran out {k-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{k-Hearts}{4-Diamonds} to give Gianera quads to eliminate the Brit in eighth place for just under $40,000.

Marc Walter

Marc Walter shoved from the small blind and Peter Mylenki snapped from the big blind with a similar stack.

Peter Mylenki: {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}
Marc Walter: {a-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}

Mylenki was in front with pocket tens and the {10-Clubs}{k-Clubs}{3-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{5-Spades} runout gave him a set. After stacks were counted, Walter was left with 80,000.

Two hands later, Walter was all in and both Jennifer Gianera and Bruce Olsen were in to see a {q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} flop. Gianera bet out and Olsen laid it down.

Marc Walter: {a-Spades}{6-Hearts}
Jennifer Gianera: {q-Clubs}{4-Spades}

Gianera had paired her queen and the {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds} runout changed nothing as Walter was eliminated.

Massoud Eskandari
Massoud Eskandari

Massoud "CBK" Eskandari just took four out of the last five hands to extend his chip lead.

Bruce Olson opened to 275,000 and Eskandari defended the big blind.

Eskandari checked the {2-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{7-Hearts} flop and Olson bet 375,000. Eskandari instantly shoved all in and Olson folded.

Eskandari told the table he flopped top two with {6-}{7-} and took the pot.

He then took down three more pots by raising preflop and taking down the blinds.

PT Hayes
PT Hayes

Massoud Eskandari raised to 300,000 from the hijack and PT Hayes called from the cutoff.

Eskandari checked the {a-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{3-Diamonds} flop and Hayes bet 775,000. Eskandari raised enough to put Hayes all in and he called.

PT Hayes: {9-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}
Massoud Eskandari: {a-Diamonds}{6-Spades}

Hayes was behind with his pair of nines against the pair of aces for Eskandari, and the {4-Hearts}{q-Diamonds} runout was no help as he exited in tenth.

He takes home more than $23,000 for his great three-day run.

Eskandari, who has the nickname CBK (Come Back Kid) back home, has nearly half the chips in play.

Massoud Eskandari had Peter Kamaras all in and at risk preflop.

Peter Kamaras: {k-Diamonds}{10-Spades}
Massoud Eskandari: {k-Spades}{j-Diamonds}

Kamaras needed help as he was outkicked, but the {k-Clubs}{8-Hearts}{q-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} runout would not provide and he had to settle for eleventh. Eskandari will take a dominant chip lead into the unofficial final table.
