Kessler Hits the Rail

Allen Kessler: {9-Diamonds}{9-Clubs}{5-Spades}{7-Hearts}{3-}{3-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}

Allen Kessler was heard going all in across the room. He shared the cards of his final hand after the fact.

He couldn't hit his low, and his two pair wasn't quite enough as his opponent drilled a better hand on seventh.

Kessler span up his short stack early in the day, but couldn't keep the momentum going thanks to an unfortunate seventh street for his opponent.

Robert Campbell: {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{4-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}/{2-Diamonds}{3-Diamonds}{j-Spades}
Perry Friedman: {x-}{x-}/{4-Hearts}{4-Spades}{j-Clubs}{6-Spades}/{x-}

Action picked up on fourth street in a heads-up pot. Perry Friedman bet and Robert Campbell made the calll.

On fifth, Campbell got the four that would have given Friedman trips. Friedman checked-called a bet from Campbell.

On sixth and seventh, action stayed the same, Campbell bet and Friedman check-called both streets.

"Two pair," said Friedman.

"Steel wheel," announced Campbell, showing his straight flush.

"That's probably going to win", said tablemate Shaun Deeb.

It did, and Campbell scooped the pot.

Gelencser checked after looking at seventh. Brunson followed up with a bet of his own, which Gelencser called.

Brunson showed his trip queens, but was bested by the trip aces of Day 1 chip leader Gelencser.

Nearby, short-stacked Renan Bruschi was seen heading to the rail.

Another story to watch for is how the champion in this year’s $1,500 edition of this event performs. Ali Eslami captured the bracelet in that Saturday, then hopped right into this one and spun his starting stack up to 116,500 to come back Sunday.

Registration is open until the start of Day 2 at 2 p.m. in the purple section of the Paris Ballroom, with a few more entries expected to pick up their 7.5 big bets before the entry window shuts to boost the entry total from its 127 on Day 1.

Seven 90-minute levels are scheduled for the day with ten-minute breaks after each level and a 60-minute dinner break after Level 14 (approximately 8:30 p.m.)

PokerNews will have all the action as they play into the money on what will be another exciting day at the 53rd World Series of Poker from its new home at Bally’s and Paris Las Vegas.
