Eveslage Leads Remaining 15 Players in Event #40: $10,000 Stud 8 or Better Championship

Nível 17
Chad Eveslage
Chad Eveslage

The second day of Event #40: $10,000 Seven Card Stud 8 or Better Championship has come to an end here at the 2022 World Series of Poker at Bally's and Paris Las Vegas. The field of stud masters endured just over 13 hours of play while culling down the entrants to just 15 remaining players.

At the top of the list sits Chad Eveslage with 1,131,000. Eveslage hovered near the top of the leaderboard for much of the day before overtaking Shaun Deeb (1,017,000) in the final level of play. At one point, Eveslage asked tablemate John Monnette (271,000), "How rich would you be if you ran as good as me?"

End of Day Action

The story of the evening was the grueling play at the bubble. Hoping to cash, runners played 45 hands in a hand-for-hand format while waiting for the final player to bust before the money was reached. Ultimately, it was Dominik Baud who exited one shy of the money when he ran into a full house of Eric Kurtzman (780,000). The lengthy hand-for-hand play added on quite a bit of time to the day, but players and the tournament director decided to play the full seven levels as planned.

Deeb was the chip leader for most of the latter half of the day. During bubble play, he was aggressive with three short stacks on his left, and he was able to build his stack well over the one million mark. He did lose a big hand in the final level of play when his low draw, flush draw, and pair of aces could not improve in a three-way pot that went the distance. He still sits in second place, just behind Eveslage.

On account of the long day, play will restart at 3 p.m. local time tomorrow inside of the Bally's Event Center. Levels will still be 90-minutes long with ten-minute breaks after every level. The tournament is scheduled to be completed in three days, but the possibility of a fourth day was discussed among the tournament staff. Tomorrow's play will ultimately decide the plan.

PokerNews will be there every step of the way as these eight or better experts look to become the next prestigious gold bracelet winner. Tune in right here tomorrow to follow along.

"Low and a diamond. I'll take a chop, I'm not greedy," said Bronshtein.

Bronshtein found a low card, but no diamonds. He made a pair, but Kurtzman made two pair and Bronshtein was out.

On seventh street, Kurtzman put Shack-Harris all in, and while the two-time bracelet winner didn't love it, he put the last of his chips in as well.

Kurtzman showed an ace-high flush with a six low for an absolute monster, crushing Tryba's trip tens and Shack Harris' pair of aces.

"Just tell me if I need to improve," said Friedman as seventh was dealt.

"I've got a low," said Tran as he revealed the ace.

"And ace high," noted Friedman, who was now behind and looking at his final card.

On seventh, Negreanu checked and Loube bet again. Negreanu thought for a bit and folded.

"I have a flush," announced Eveslage.

That was no good, though, as Loube showed his full house for the scoop.

Heads up to fourth street between short-stacked Dominik Baud and Eric Kurtzman, Baud bet and was called by Kurtzman.

On fifth street, Baud bet again and was raised by Kurtzman. Baud then commited the rest of his chips and was happily called by Kurtzman, who showed trip jacks, while Baud just had a pair of fours and a low draw.

Kurtzman filled up on sixth, leaving Baud needing to make a low, but his nine-king runout ended his tournament short of the money, finally breaking a nearly two-hour bubble and guaranteeing the remaining players $16,358.

Steven Loube: {x-}{x-}/{5-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{10-Clubs} - folded fifth street

Eric Wasserson raised the bring-in on third street and was then re-raised by Chad Eveslage showing a nine. With playful surprise, Wasserson said "what the f***" then Steven Loube called with a five and Wasserson called as well.

On fourth street Wasserson pulled a nine, while Eveslage and Loube each got an eight. Wasserson checked to Eveslage, who bet, prompting another joking "what the f***" from Wasserson. Loube and Wasserson laughed then called to see fifth street.

On fifth, Eveslage picked up another nine. Eveslage bet his pair of nines, Loube folded and then Wasserson came with a raise.

Eveslage called, then on sixth street check-called a bet from Wasserson.

On seventh Eveslage check-called once more, for Wasserson to declare, "flush and a wheel."

Eveslage tossed his red aces in the hole into the muck as the largest pot of the level went to Wasserson.
