There Will Be No Friedman Four-Peat

Nível 9
Adam Friedman
Adam Friedman

For the first time since 2017, there will be a new champion of the WSOP $10,000 Dealer's Choice event, as Adam Friedman's reign has come to an end.

No-Limit Hold'em

Friedman limped the button and Mike Matusow raised to 6,000 in the big blind. Friedman then moved all in with Matusow slightly covered and Matusow called off for a bit under 60,000.

Mike Matusow: {a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}
Adam Friedman: {6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}

The board came {a-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{a-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}, bringing Matusow a full house, and leaving the three-time defending champion on fumes.

Omaha Hi-Lo

On the next hand, Friedman got his last 9,000 chips in on the button against Richard Bai in the big blind.

Adam Friedman: {a-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}
Richard Bai: {q-Clubs}{9-Spades}{7-Hearts}{5-Clubs}

The {q-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{j-Clubs} brought Friedman second pair and a straight draw, but he was behind Bai's pair of queens, and there was no low possible for hope of a split pot.

The {9-Diamonds} turn gave a second pair to Bai, and left Friedman with just the river to keep him alive.

The river {5-Spades} brought no help to Friedman, and with that his nearly four-year reign as champion of the WSOP $10,000 Dealer's Choice came to an end, with applause and a hug from Matusow.

Monnette Among Recent Casualties

Nível 9

5-Card Draw

John Monnette was sent to the rail and grabbed all his belongings while the pot was shipped to Jeremy Ausmus. Dylan Linde provided the details of the hand that led to the demise of Monnette.

According to Linde, Naoya Kihara opened to 4,500 from under the gun and Monnette made it 12,000 to go on the button. Ausmus four-bet to 30,000 and Monnette was the only caller. Both discarded one card and Ausmus jammed, Monnette called.

Ausmus ended up with a full house, fives over eights, while Monnette's {k-Clubs}{7-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{3-Clubs}{2-Clubs} for a flush ended up second best.

Brown Eliminated by Clements

Nível 9

Pot-Limit 2-7 Triple Draw

Andrew Brown was still hopeful when he was going for an eight-draw with two cards to come when Scott Clements patted all the way. As the final draw was completed, Brown flashed what appeared to be {8-}{6-}{3-} and then burst out in laughter when Rast revealed his {7-}{5-}{4-}{3-}{2-} for a dealt number one.

Brown ended up with a {8-}{6-}{3-}{3-}{2-} and hit the rail, walked over to Rast and jovially wrestled his opponent. "So when were you gonna tell me?" he inquired and Rast replied "sorry I was still kinda shocked".

While that pot boosted the stack of Clements, he then dashed out a double to Matthew Schreiber.

Matusow Celebrates Vividly after Winning Pot

Nível 9

A-5 Triple Draw

Mike Matusow bet through a heads-up contest with Robert Mizrachi, who eventually folded to the final bet after Matusow had discarded one each on all three draws.

"Show one time Mikey," Andrew Kelsall said and Matusow flashed the {5-}{4-}{2-}{a-} with the words "I started with this" but then caught {6-}" as he also revealed the final card as well. He counted his chips right after and then screamed for everybody to hear "yessss I got more than starting stack".

Goindoo Under Pressure

Nível 9

Badeucey

Ryan Goindoo was very short and ended up all-in for a total of 14,000 against the table big stack David Benyamine. Goindoo didn't improve upon his {5-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs} Baadugi draw but remained in contention with a chop with an {a-}{7-} completed his board, as David Benyamine narrowly missed getting there with a King-high Badugi draw.

Also very short in chips are Jonathan Cohen and Noah Bronstein.

Final Break of the Night

Nível 8

The field has already attracted 109 entries and all players with chips at their disposal are heading into a scheduled 15-minute break. They will be playing another two 60-minute levels before bagging and tagging up for the night.

Friedman Gets Very Short; Recovers Some Chips

Razz

Adam Friedman: {x-}{x-} / {5-}{6-}{7-}{10-} / {x-}
Mike Matusow: {x-}{x-} / {2-}{k-}{a-}{k-} / {x-}

Mike Matusow hesitated to bet seventh street against a short-stacked Adam Friedman, who had a favouring board. Both eventually checked and had the {8-}{5-}{3-} for an eighty-five as the winning hand.

"I am not going to bet my last 5k when he could well have a seven," Matusow said in table chat.

Andrew Kelsall: {x-}{x-} / {3-}{k-}{10-} fold on fifth
Adam Friedman: {x-}{x-} / {3-}{4-}{j-}

Friedman then bet against Andrew Kelsall, who called on fourth and tanked on fifth. In a very jovial atmosphere, both talked about the possible outcome and Friedman mentioned "you could already be drawing dead, I think you should fold." Kelsall referred to some additional bonus equity for knocking out the three-time champ of this event but eventually folded.
