Niklas Astedt
Niklas Astedt

Niklas Astedt was down to just 10,000 chips and saw a flop from under the gun against the button and the big blind.

The button bet 300 on the {4-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Spades} flop and the big blind called. Astedt then check-shoved and only the big blind called.

Niklas Astedt: {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}
Big Blind: {a-Diamonds}{8-Spades}

Astedt's ladies were ahead of the pair of eights of his opponent and the Swedish pro held as the board ran out {2-Clubs}{9-Hearts}.

"Almost got rid of me," Astedt laughed.

Yueqi Zhu
Yueqi Zhu

Yueqi "Rich" Zhu took his seat in the Amazon room and will be looking for his eighth cash of the 2021 WSOP. Zhu won his sole WSOP title in the 2018 Mixed Omaha event and has also been the runner-up in WSOP bracelet events on four separate occasions.

The cutoff raised to 600 and the small blind called before Zhu three-bet to 2,200. The cutoff tanked briefly before folding and the small blind quickly sent his cards into the muck.

Zhu dragged the pot to get some early momentum on Day 1.
