Day 1b in Event #67: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event World Championship Almost Underway

Event #67: $10,000 No-Limit Hold'em Main Event World Championship at the 2021 World Series of Poker continues today with the second of six Day 1 starting flights. Day 1b of the flagship event kicks off at 11 a.m. Pacific Time.

Like yesterday, players begin with a starting stack of 60,000 chips with blinds beginning at 100/200/200. Day 1b consists of five two-hour levels and with 20-minute breaks between each level. Additionally, players will take a 75-minute break at the completion of Level 3 at around 5:40 p.m.

The first starting flight attracted 523 runners, including Poker Hall of Famers Doyle Brunson, Billy Baxter and Tom McEvoy, and 348 of made it to Day 2. Italian pro Mustapha Kanit ended the day as the chip leader with a stack of 363,500, in front of Rittie Chuaprasert (345,700), Alex Livingston (319,200), and David Fong (298,500).

Other players weren't fortunate enough to make it through the first starting flight, included defending champion Damian Salas, who was eliminated by Peter Gould during the first level of play.

A handful of well-known players and multi-bracelet winners are already registered for Day 1b ahead of the 11 a.m. start time, among them are Stephen Chidwick, Nick Schulman, Brian Hastings, Chance Kornuth, Chad Eveslage, Cary Katz, Jeremy Wien, Daniel Fuhs, and Maria Konnikova.

Koller stayed silent but did crack a smile. The player ultimately folded, and Koller chipped up early.

"Chan Checks it Right Back"

Johnny Chan dodged a bullet in a recent hand with Boris Bershadskiy.

According to the players, Bershadskiy raised to 900 in middle position and got called by Chan on the button and a player in the small blind.

The flop came {9-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and action was checked to Chan who bet 1,500. only Bershadskiy called.

The turn brought the {6-Diamonds} and again, Bershadskiy checked to Chan, who this time bet 2,500. Again, Bershadskiy called.

On the river {k-Diamonds}, Bershadskiy checked a final time but this time, but Chan didn't bite.

"I have the nuts", said Bershadskiy as he rolled over {a-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} for the nut flush.

As Chan aided in describing the hand, he exuberantly asked to describe the river action as "and Chan checks it right back!"

The turn of {7-Clubs} checked through and the river of {q-Diamonds} was bet at by Matusow to the tune of 1,000. Koller went into the tank and after about 30-seconds of thinking he tossed his hand into the muck, giving Matusow the pot.

Carlton saw a flop of {q-}{5-}{3-} in a three-bet pot against Sean Ragozzini. Carlton bet out on the flop and Ragozzini check-raised to get the rest of the chips in the middle, with Ragozzini being the player at risk.

Carlton held {a-}{a-} but his opponent had {q-}{q-} and had flopped a set. Carlton couldn't improve as the board ran out {10-}{3-}.

Carlton was left with just 6,000 after the hand and busted shortly after.

On a neighboring table, Brian Rast joined the field. Rast bet 3,000 on the {6-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} turn and was met with a raise to 7,500.

Rast laid it down but is still sitting comfortably near his starting stack.

Rast also addressed the field during the first break, he was presented his fifth WSOP bracelet by his father.

The flop came {9-Spades}{q-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}. The action was checked to the original raiser who continued for 1,600. He was called by the cutoff but when the action was on Ausmus he three-bet to 7,500. Both of his opponents called.

The turn came {3-Clubs}. Ausmus led for 17,000. The original raiser folded. The player in the cutoff thought for a few seconds before moving all in and Ausmus snap-called.

Ausmus flopped the nut straight to his opponent's set of eights. His opponent needed the board to pair.
