A WSOP Millionaire Will Be Crowned Today in Event #84: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller

The stars of the poker world came out for Event #84: $50,000 Pot-Limit Omaha High Roller and, when Day 2 resumes at 2 p.m. PST today, one of them will walk away with a WSOP bracelet and $1 million richer.

Leading the 34 survivors is Laszlo Bujtas of Hungary. The 2018 WSOP Europe runner-up ran his 300,000 starting stack up to 1,980,000 on Day 1 as he looks for his first career bracelet. But right behind him are plenty of past bracelet winners, including Ben Lamb (1,755,000), Alexander Petersen (1,355,000), current Player of the Year leader Josh Arieh (1,355,000), and Jared Bleznick (1,270,000).

Daniel Negreanu didn’t last long on his first entry into this event, but he made the most of his second bullet, bagging 1,125,000 for a top-10 stack heading into Day 2. Jeremy Ausmus (1,125,000) and PPC champion Dan “Jungleman” Cates (1,045,000) also found their way near the top of the leaderboard.

Ole Schemion will try to pull off a feat that seems impossible: win a WSOP bracelet on consecutive days, something that hasn’t been done since Phil Hellmuth in 1993. The German high roller, who won the Poker Hall of Fame Bounty event yesterday, jumped right into this event and takes a stack of 400,000 into Day 2.

Scott Seiver (1,070,000), Chance Kornuth (625,000), Anthony Zinno (420,000), Hellmuth (365,000), and Shaun Deeb (320,000) are also returning today for a chance to add another bracelet to their collection.

A total of 85 players entered the event, creating a prize pool of $4,069,375. The top 13 players will finish in the money, with the winner earning $1,188,918. The plan for today is to play down to a new champion. Blinds will begin in Level 16 at 10,000-15,000, with a 15,000 big blind ante.

As the 2021 WSOP winds down, PokerNews will be tableside throughout the day as a new WSOP millionaire is made.

Nível 16 : 10,000/15,000, 15,000 ante
Noah Schwartz
Noah Schwartz

Dan Cates opened the pot with a raise to 45,000 from the button and Daniel Negreanu called from the small blind. Noah Schwartz, in the big blind, re-raised to 180,000. Cates quickly folded, but Negreanu called.

"Good luck, Noah," Negreanu said.

"I would say the same, but you're not really the guy I want to beat me," Schwartz replied.

The flop came {3-Clubs}{3-Hearts}{j-Clubs} and Negreanu bet 80,000. Schwartz called all in with {k-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}, while Negreanu showed {a-Spades}{k-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}{9-Spades} for an inferior two pair.

The board ran out {6-Clubs}{8-Clubs} and Negreanu handed over the double-up to Schwartz.

Deeb Doubles In Set Over Set Hand

Nível 17 : 10,000/20,000, 20,000 ante
Sean Deeb
Sean Deeb

Shaun Deeb opened to 35,000 in the cutoff and Cliff Josephy and Ka Kwan Lau both called.

Deeb bet 150,000 when checked to on the flop of {q-Spades}{10-Hearts}{5-Spades} and Josephy raised to around 400,000. Lau folded and Deeb moved all-in. Josephy called with Deeb covered.

Shaun Deeb: {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Hearts}
Cliff Josephy: {j-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}

Deeb had a set of queens while Josephy was drawing very thin with a set of tens. Deeb maintained the best hand after the {a-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds} runout and doubled up, while Josephy was left with mere crumbs.

"Nothing you can do there," Deeb told his opponent sympathetically.

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Daniel Negreanu and Jared Bleznick limped in before Michael Song moved all in for his last 35,000. Adam Hendrix and Dan Cates called from the blinds, as did Negreanu and Bleznick.

The flop came {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{k-Hearts} and Negreanu bet 100,000. Only Bleznick called to see the {3-Hearts} turn, when Negreanu bet another 350,000.

Bleznick again called, then both players checked the {3-Spades} river.

Negreanu showed {q-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Bleznick {q-Diamonds}{q-Spades}{j-Clubs}{5-Clubs} for the same straight. "Straight is good," Song said, tapping the table and making his exit from the tournament.

Chance Kornuth
Chance Kornuth

Ben Lamb opened to 85,000 in late position and Chance Kornuth called from the big blind with about the same amount behind.

"Are you on a draw? Chance!" Lamb said heading to the flop.

Kornuth moved all-in on the {9-Hearts}{8-Diamonds}{6-Spades} flop and Lamb quickly called.

Chance Kornuth: {k-Spades}{q-Hearts}{9-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Ben Lamb: {a-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}{j-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Lamb had the better kicker and maintained the best hand as the board ran out {5-Hearts}{8-Spades}. Kornuth hit the rail and gifted Lamb with a full bottle of sparkling water before leaving.

Dan Cates limped in preflop before Shaun Deeb raised to 135,000. Cates called and the flop came {4-Clubs}{6-Spades}{j-Diamonds}.

Cates potted for his last 265,000 and Deeb snap-called. "I started with a good hand," Deeb said as he showed {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{4-Clubs}. Cates had {a-Spades}{j-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{5-Spades} for a pair of jacks.

The {7-Diamonds} on the turn improved Cates to two pair and he stayed alive when the river came the {5-Clubs}.

Phil Hellmuth

Phil Hellmuth raised from the button to 100,000 before Ap Garza potted to 340,000. Hellmuth re-potted and Garza called all in for less.

Ap Garza: {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{2-Clubs}
Phil Hellmuth: {a-Diamonds}{a-Hearts}{q-Diamonds}{6-Clubs}

Garza picked up a flush draw on the turn on a board of {3-Hearts}{q-Clubs}{7-Spades}{10-Spades}, but the river bricked out {8-Clubs} and Hellmuth picked up the knockout.

"I was scared for a bit there," Hellmuth said.
