Day 1b of Event #83: $1,500 The Closer Begins at 11 A.M.

The second and final flight of Event #83: $1,500 The Closer is set to begin at 11 a.m. local time at the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino.

In Day 1a, 802 players started the day and only 25 ended the day with a stack for Day 2. Osman Ihlamur bagged the chip lead with 1,765,000 chips. Some other notables who bagged a stack include Kenny Hallaert (1,250,000), Chris Moorman (1,250,000), and Stephen Song (535,000).

All players will start with 25,000 chips and Day 1b will play a total of 22 levels with each level lasting 30 minutes. There will be a 20-minute break every 4 levels and a 75-minute dinner break after level 12 (~5:40 p.m.). One re-entry is allowed per flight and late registration will remain open until the end of the dinner break (~6:55 p.m.).

Park Double Up

Sejin Park was already involved in a big pot when the action was picked up on the turn with the board showing .

Park bet 6,000 and was called by the only other player in the pot on the button. The river was and Park went all-in for 11,500.

His opponent went into the tank before making the call and Park showed for a set of ten which were good.

His opponent was forced to show by another player and he had for two-park.

Pat Lyons Rivers a Straight Flush

Known as "World famous" Pat Lyons was involved in a hand. You may remember him from this year's interview on PokerNews in the Main Event in which he went all-in blind and won the hand live on air.

The hand was picked up on the turn with the board showing and Lyons checked from the small blind to the only other player big blind.

The big blind bet 3,100 and Lyons who said "I only meant to call I swear to God" raised to 6,200 after he was told he couldn't get change from the 5,000 chip he put in because he also put in 200 in black (100 chips).

The big blind raised all-in for about 10,000 and Lyons made the call to put his opponent at risk.

The river was giving Lyons hit a straight flush and eliminating a player from the tournament.

Vanessa Kade Eliminates a Player

All the chips got in the middle between a player and Vanessa Kade who had her opponent covered.

Koop Eliminates Carlton

The hand was picked up preflop when Everett Carlton raised to 2,000 and was re-raised by Niko Koop to 6,000. It folded around to Carlton again and he made the call.

The flop came and both players checked. The turn was and Carlton checked. Koop made it 9,000 and Carlton went all-in putting himself at risk which Koop quickly called.

The river was meaningless as Carlton was drawing dead and he was eliminated.

A hand was picked up when a player was all-in for about 35,000 in chips and Joe Serock also had all the chips in the middle to put the player at risk.

The board would run out and with that Serock would eliminate a player. More importantly, for Serock he would add to his stack to put him at around 100,000 in chips.

Chen Hits River to Bust Opponent

Pete Chen was in the small blind and had 15,000 committed to the pot. The hijack jammed for 48,000 and Chen called.

The players were flipping and the flop kept things spicy as Chen picked up an open-ended straight draw. The turn changed nothing, but the spiked the river to give Chen the pot and knock out his opponent.

Moreno Doubles Up in a Battle of the Blinds

Johnnie Moreno was left with about five big blinds when it folded around to him in the small blind and he went all-in. The big blind called the 14,000 to put Moreno at risk for his tournament life.

Moreno needed to catch one of his live cards because his opponent also had hearts and the board would run out giving Moreno a nine on the flop to win the pot.

Moreno then said "My strategy is just to have the worst hand against you all the time" joking to the big blind as he scooped the pot.
