The second of four days is in the books and John Racener holds the chip lead of Event #25: $5,000 6-Handed No-Limit Hold’em at the 2021 World Series of Poker. Racener leads a returning field of 31 players that will come back for Day 3 to continue their quest for WSOP gold. The 604 entrants generated a prize pool of $2,785,950 and the top prize will pay $562,667.

Racener is looking for his second WSOP title. The 2010 Main Event runner-up broke through in 2017 when he won the $10,000 Dealer’s Choice Championship in 2017, and he has cashed at the WSOP 81 times.

Among the returning players are Bin Weng, Vanessa Kade, Jonathan Jaffe, and Brazil’s Yuri Dzivielevski. Also returning is Daniel Negreanu, who will try to make a run at his seventh bracelet. Day 1 chip leader Scott Drobes also qualifies for Day 3 at the top part of the leaderboard again after going on a late run to bag over 1.8 million.

Daniel Negreanu
Daniel Negreanu

Negreanu steadily built his stack over the day and reached 2.2 million at one point before Anthony Spinella found a double through the six-time WSOP champion. Spinella’s ace-eight made two-pair to beat the pocket fours of Negreanu and send him back below 2 million. The late levels brought more trouble for Negreanu and he will return tomorrow with 773,000 in chips to make another run at the gold bracelet.

Other notables to bow out before the money on Day 2 include Brent Hanks, Nick Schulman, and Kitty Kuo.

Day 3 will resume on Thursday, October 14 at 2 p.m. with around 35 minutes left in Level 20. Blinds in Level 20 are at 10,000/20,000 with a 20,000 ante. Play will continue on Day 3 until five players remain to return on Friday, October 15 for a final table that will be streamed on PokerGO.

The action folded around to Arie Kliper in the small blind who raised it up to 40,000. Daniel Negreanu was in the big blind and re-raised to 120,000. Kliper called and the two big stacks went heads-up to a flop of {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{4-Diamonds}.

Cheong and Pulusani Eliminated on the Bubble

Nível 16 : 4,000/8,000, 8,000 ante
Joseph Cheong
Joseph Cheong

There were multiple all-ins on the very first hand back from the dinner break. At one table, Joseph Cheong was all in for around 100,000 chips and was called by Andres Gonzalez. Cheong tabled {a-Spades}{j-Diamonds} but was up against the {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} of Gonzalez.

The board ran out {k-Spades}{5-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}{10-Clubs} and Cheong was unable to come from behind, thus being eliminated.

At another table, Nick Petrangelo raised to 16,000 in the hijack and Sandeep Pulusani ripped all in for around 200,000 in the big blind. Petrangelo quickly flicked in a chip to call and the cards were tabled.

Pulusani showed {q-Hearts}{q-Clubs} but ran into the {a-Spades}{a-Clubs} of Petrangelo. The board ran out {k-Spades}{k-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{7-Spades} and Pulusani was also eliminated.

Since Cheong and Pulusani were eliminated on separate tables, they will split the prize money for 91st place.

The board read {j-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} and Anthony Spinella checked from the big blind. Chris Moorman tossed in a bet of 30,000 from the hijack and Spinella called.

The river was the {q-Clubs} and Spinella checked again. Moorman put together a bet of 64,000 and Spinella went into the tank. After a couple of minutes, he eventually sent his cards to the muck and Moorman took the pot.

"I think you have it," Spinella said as he mucked his cards.

"It's tough not to have it," Moorman laughed.

Adrian Mateos
Adrian Mateos

Adrian Mateos moved all in for 32,200 from the cutoff and Raul Martinez asked for a count from the small blind. Martinez re-raised which got the big blind to quickly fold and the two hands were tabled.

Adrian Mateos: {a-Hearts}{7-Clubs}
Raul Martinez: {a-Clubs}{9-Diamonds}

Martinez held a dominating lead and the flop of {k-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{7-Hearts} cemented his position in front. The {8-Clubs} on the turn nor the {4-Diamonds} on the river
did not help Mateos, sending him to the rail.
