Day 3 of Event #79: $3,000 No-Limit Holdem is in the books at the 2019 World Series of Poker held in the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino as only six players survive out of the 671 that started on Day 1. David Gonzalez bagged the chip lead and he ended the day with 4,295,000 and is just ahead of Guillaume Nolet who bagged 3,960,000. Both have more than double the stack of Ivan Deyra who sits in third with 1,975,000.

The other players that made it through to the final day of the tournament were David Dibernardi (1,365,000), Patrick Leonard (1,320,000), and David Weinstein (515,000). Half of the remaining field has the first name David and with the chip leader part of that group the chance is high one of the Davids will be crowned the winner tomorrow

Day 3 action
Day 3 started with 14 players left in the tournament. The tournament started two days earlier with a total of 671 entrants and 148 made it through to Day 2 of the tournament. Fourteen of them were still standing and came back to battle it out for a spot at the final six on Day 3. It only took a couple of minutes for the action to break loose on Day 3 and Leonard immediately caught a double up after five minutes.

Will Givens (14th - $15,618) wasn't as fortunate as Leonard and he was the first player that was eliminated from the tournament. His king-queen couldn't catch up with the ace-nine of end-of-day chip leader Gonzalez. Allen Berger (13th - $15,618) and Michael Tureniec (12th - $19,690) all busted out before the first break.

Jonas Mackoff (11th - $19,690) and Karen Sarkisyan (10th - $19,690) both also missed out on the final table. Mackoff first had his pocket kings beaten by ace-queen to be left with a couple of big blinds. He lost those a hand later and Sarkisyan got her chips in the middle with an inferior ace.

Diego Zeiter busted on the second hand of the final table when he got his last six big blinds in the middle with ace-five against the ace-king of Deyra. Zeiter received $25,278 for his ninth-place finish and won't be making an appearance on the live stream. Dennis Brand (8th - $33,032) busted moments later when his aces were cracked.

Andres Nemeth's elimination ended the day. Nemeth first miraculously avoided elimination by hitting a two-outer but he was eliminated in the next hand when he lost a coin flip against the end-of-day chip leader. Nemeth received $43,925 for busting in seventh place.

The tournament will continue at 1 p.m. local time on Friday, July 12, with 15 minutes and 45 seconds left in level 25: 25,000/50,000 - big blind ante 50,000. Make sure to check in on PokerNews to follow all the updates.

Andras Nemeth

Hand #42: Andras Nemeth raised from middle position to 110,000 and it was David Gonzalez who three-bet to 300,000. Andras Nemeth announced all in as soon as it folded back to him and he put his stack of 1,145,000 in the middle. Gonzalez thought about it for a minute before calling.

Andras Nemeth: {9-Spades}{9-Diamonds}
David Gonzalez: {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs}

The {j-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Diamonds} gave Gonzalez a ton more outs and Nemeth was drawing to just one after the {k-Hearts} on the turn. The {10-Spades} was the nail in his coffin and he was sent to the rail in 7th place cashing for $43,925.

The clock has been paused with 15:45 left in level 25 and the players are about to bag up for Day 4.

Jonas Mackoff
Jonas Mackoff

Jonas Mackoff was down to only 70,000 in the big blind and he had to put 60,000 in before he even saw what cards he was getting dealt. Patrick Leonard raised from the hijack to 65,000 and he was called by Andras Nemeth from the small blind.

The flop fell {q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{5-Diamonds} and Nemeth check-called a bet of 115,000. The turn was the {k-Hearts} and both players checked and the {a-Hearts} was dealt on the river. Nemeth check-folded to a bet of 365,000.

Mackoff showed {j-Hearts}{6-Diamonds} and that wasn't enough against the {a-Clubs}{q-Hearts} of Leonard.

Mackoff finished in 11th position and he cashed for $19,690.

Patrick Leonard

Andras Nemeth opened the action with a raise from the cutoff, and Patrick Leonard moved all in for around 900,000 from the small blind.

The action folded back to Nemeth, and he called after a few seconds of thought.

Andras Nemeth: {a-Diamonds}{j-Clubs}
Patrick Leonard: {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}

Board: {q-Diamonds}{a-Spades}{3-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{k-Spades}

Nemeth hit top pair on the flop to extend his preflop advantage, and improved to two pair on the turn.

"Ohh god!" said Leonard as he saw the king hit the river for a straight and the Brit survived.

Nemeth sacrificed close to a third of his stack in cruel fashion, as Leonard lived to fight on.
