Hong Leads Monster Super Seniors Day 3 Field

Jay Hong
Jay Hong

Jay Hong holds a commanding chip lead ahead of Day 3 of the WSOP Event #39: $1,000 Super Seniors, with over four times the average chips. Hong eliminated a player late last night to move up to 1,838,000 in chips and will be looking to continue his run when play resumes at 11 a.m. today.

Hong has WSOP cashes stretching back as far as 2010, with his best result coming in that year's Seniors Championship where he finished ninth for $36,450. Already guaranteed $2,469, Hong and everyone else still at the felt will be hoping to get closer to the $359,863 top prize in the Super Seniors this year.

Two-time WSOP bracelet winner Barry Shulman is second in chips, and has now cashed the Super Seniors for the third time after a 31st place finish in 2015 for $6,332 and a 166th place finish for $1,972 last year. Other players over a million in chips are James Plateroti, Clifford Pappas, Miles Harris and Steven Wenrich.

Today is scheduled to be the final day's play, but with blinds at only 8,000/16,000 with a big blind ante of 16,000 and still 120 players remaining, playing down to a winner seems a remote possibility. Stay tuned to PokerNews for more information as we bring you all the updates from the Super Seniors event.
