Torbey Back Up; Gugliuzza Holds

Nível 34 : 300,000/600,000, 600,000 ante
Amer Torbey
Amer Torbey

In a preflop clash between Amer Torbey and David Rasmussen, the chips ended up in the middle before the flop was dealt. Torbey was all in for all of his 17,100,000 in chips and Gugliuzza had him covered.

Amer Torbey: {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}
David Rasmussen: {k-}{j-}

The board came down {5-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{3-Spades}{a-Clubs} to give Torbey, who lost a bunch of chips earlier, a sizable double-up back to where he started.

At the same time at an adjacent table Anthony Gugliuzza was standing up and rubbed his hands in anticipation. Gugliuzza had {a-Hearts}{a-Diamonds} open in front of him and Diogo Veiga had made the call with {10-Hearts}{10-Spades} for all of Gugliuzza's 8,050,000 in chips.

The dealer slowly dealt {6-Hearts}{4-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{9-Clubs}{9-Spades} and an ecstatic Gugliuzza clapped his hands in celebration.

Johnson at Full Throttle

Nível 37 : 600,000/1,200,000, 1,200,000 ante
Amer Torbey
Amer Torbey

Amer Torbey raised from the cutoff, Evan Johnson three-bet to 10,000,000 from the small blind and Torbey called.

On the {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} flop, Johnson announced "ten million" and quickly slid another stack of T-500,000 chips forward. Torbey swiftly came along with the call, creating a mouth-watering pot of over 40 million in chips already.

The turn was the {5-Clubs} and within mere seconds, Johnson made a waving motion with his hands and moved all in for 35,000,000. Torbey looked back at his cards and, with a disgusted look on his face, folded after about ten seconds.

At the same table, Andrei Konopelko is sitting pretty behind a stack of 90M and is the presumable chip leader as the once humongous field now has just five tables left.

Former Marine Tim Adkison Makes Astoria Proud in Big 50

Nível 38 : 800,000/1,600,000, 1,600,000 ante
Tim Adkison
Tim Adkison

Tim Adkison busted the Big 50 in 40th place for $27,620, the biggest score of his career. Prior to his elimination, PokerNews caught up with the 27-year-old former marine and UNLV student to talk about the experience of playing the largest tournament in poker history.

“Because of the tournament itself, it’s awesome,” said Adkison, who is originally from Astoria, Oregon. “I’ve played pretty deep in other tournaments but this is obviously the deepest. It’s pretty tough. There’s no more fish in this entire tournament, so every chip is important.”

It actually marked Adkison’s second attempt at the Big 50 after busting an early bullet.

“I pre-regged the first time and made it to Level 10,” he explains. “I busted and got back in line for the next day. It wasn’t that bad of a line as it was after midnight.”

Frei Out Through the Back Door

Nível 40 : 1,250,000/2,500,000, 2,500,000 ante
Aaron Frei
Aaron Frei

Dylan Lask raised to 6,300,000 in middle position, Aaron Frei three-bet shoved a little over 25,000,000 from the small blind and Lask called after some thought.

Aaron Frei: {2-Hearts}{2-Spades}
Dylan Lask: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}

The {a-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{2-Diamonds} flop all but ended it on the spot, giving Frei a commanding lead in the hand with a set of deuces. Lask picked up one of his backdoor draws on the {q-Hearts} turn, and when the {9-Hearts} fell on the river, his "let's go baby!" echoed throughout the Amazon room.

Frei, after briefly being stunned by the unfortunate turn of events, then splashed all of his chips across the felt in frustration and made his way out of the tournament area.
