Michael McKenna Bags Lead; 24 Remain in Event #60: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship

Nível 20 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Michael McKenna
Michael McKenna

Earlier this week Michael McKenna made the final table of Event #50: $1,500 Razz and is now knocking on the door of another final table in Event #60: $10,000 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better Championship.

McKenna had a roller coaster of a day before eventually bagging up the chip lead. Just before the last break of the night, McKenna took the most of a three-way pot against Abdel Hamid and Jason Berilgen.

McKenna took the majority of the big pot with two-pair and the nut low while the other players only got a small portion with the nut low. That would push McKenna to the top of the counts and while he exchanged several big pots with Jim Collopy near the end of play, he held on to finish with the chip lead, bagging up 1,048,000.

There were 125 players to start the day but by the end of the night, only 24 remained. The money bubble came and went but before that, there were several notables who busted. Some who didn't make it through to the money included Phil Hellmuth, Daniel Negreanu, Allen Kessler, defending champion Bryce Yockey, Robert Mizrachi, Ben Yu, Jesse Martin, Brian Rast, Scott Bohlman and Carol Fuchs.

Another player who also came up short included Rep Porter, the eventual bubble boy. Porter got it all in against Brandon Shack-Harris with a full house, but Shack-Harris had quads and would eliminate Porter, bringing the rest of the players into the money. Porter looked as if he might actually fold the top full house, but in the end, he couldn't let it go.

Some of those who made it into the money but not much further were Nick Schulman (35th for $15,000), Andrew Kelsall (34th for $15,000), Ryan Laplante (32nd for $16,494) and Ian O'Hara (29th for $16,494).

Others returning for Day 3 along with McKenna include the likes of Nathan Gamble (640,000), Jim Collopy (582,000), Cliff Josephy (480,000), Randy Ohel, (476,000), Brandon Shack-Harris (417,000), Phil Galfond (308,000) and Eli Elezra (146,000)

Eoghan O'Dea
Eoghan O'Dea

On a board of {K-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{6-Spades}, Michael McKenna checked over to Eoghan O'Dea. O'Dea put out a bet of 28,000 before McKenna check-raised, betting enough to put O'Dea all in. O'Dea thought for a good while before he finally decided to call.

Eoghan O'Dea: {A-Hearts}{2-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{9-Clubs}
Michael McKenna: {K-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The river was the {9-Diamonds} and that gave McKenna a straight and eliminated O'Dea from the tournament just before the money. McKenna moved over 500,000 chips after taking down the pot.

Elezra, though, stood up immediately from the table and left. Tablemates Rep Porter and David "ODB" Baker called him back to tell Elezra that he doubled, although Elezra said he knew, and was just getting up to throw things out.

Eilers Scoops a Massive Pot From Day 1 Chip Leader Gamble

Nível 12 : 1,200/2,400, 0 ante
Nathan Gamble
Nathan Gamble

From the hijack seat, Benjamin Eilers opened with a raise to 7,500. Nathan Gamble as next to act and he made it 28,000 in the cutoff. Eilers called.

The flop was {J-Clubs}{10-Clubs}{7-Diamonds} and Eilers checked to Gamble. Gamble put out a bet of 26,000. Eilers announced a pot and Gamble quickly moved all in. Eilers called with a big stack behind of nearly 200,000, creating a massive pot.

Benjamin Eilers: {A-Diamonds}{J-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Nathan Gamble: {A-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts}

Gamble had aces and a flush draw, but Eilers flopped two pair and was in the lead. The {10-Spades} came on the turn which put a near stranglehold on the hand for Eilers as he turned a full house and the {5-Diamonds} on the river changed nothing. Stacks were counted out and Eilers started the hand with 193,100. Gamble was forced to ship that over and Eilers doubled to nearly 400,000.
