Late Day Surge Sends Sergio Ramirez into Chip Lead of Event #46: $2,500 Mixed Omaha/Stud Hi-Lo

Nível 10 : 1,000/2,000, 0 ante

Event #46: $2,500 Mixed Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better/Seven Card Stud Hi-Lo 8 or Better brought out a total of 402 runners to play, creating a total prize pool of $904,500. At the end of play on Day 1, only 152 players remained and leading the way was Sergio Ramirez who bagged up a massive stack of 139,700 chips.

Ramirez had a late day surge that included him busting Eli Elezra. In the hand, Elezra made trips, while Ramirez made a full house. Elezra was unable to improve and that sent him to the rail while Ramirez added more to his already massive stack.

Some of those to bag up a stack at the end of Day 1 include Eric Rodawig (123,400), Kate Hoang (76,900), Scott Abrams (74,400), Robert Mizrachi (62,500), Felipe Ramos (52,600), Daniel Negreanu (42,200), Jesse Martin (31,900), Marco Johnson (28,000) and Phil Ivey (8,100) to name a few.

Negreanu had a ridiculously stacked table for most of the day that included Jeff Lisandro, Yuval Bronshtein, Brandon Shack-Harris, Robert Cambell, Shannon Petluck, Mark Gregorich, and Perry Friedman over the course of the day. Most of these players made it through the day, but one who didn't was Brandon Shack-Harris. In a massive hand, Lisandro made a six-low while Negreanu made an ace high-flush. Shack-Harris attempted to make a play with the worst of the three hands, so Negreanu and Lisandro chopped up a large portion of his chips. He was eliminated shortly after.

While 152 players made it through ten levels of play today, there were others who fell along the way. Some of those who didn't make it include the likes of Phil Hellmuth, John Racener, Linda Johnson, Joe McKeehen, Frank Kassela, David Bach, Frankie O'Dell, Eric Buchman, Benny Glaser, Allen Kessler, Michael Gathy, Max Pescatori, Brandon Cantu and Mike Leah.

Mike Leah built up a large stack early in the day, but he wasn't able to hold on to it. Eventually, he got it in in a three-way stud pot against Yueqi Zhu and two other players. Leah made two pair, but one of his opponents made a full house and Zhu and the other player both made six-lows. That sent Leah to the rail and Zhu followed him out the door shortly after.

The remaining 152 players will return on Saturday, June 23 at 2 p.m. where they are scheduled to play another 10 levels. Action will kick off in level 11 with limits of 1,200/2,400 and 61 players will finish in the money. PokerNews will be back at it again tomorrow with all the updates so make sure to tune back in.

Mike Leah: {x-}{x-}/{A-Hearts}{J-Clubs}{K-Diamonds}{3-Clubs}/{x-}
Player 1: {x-}{x-}/{6-Diamonds}{A-Spades}{2-Hearts}{4-Clubs}/{x-}
Player 2: {x-}{x-}/{8-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{3-Diamonds}{3-Spades}/{x-}
Yueqi Zhu: {x-}{x-}/{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{Q-Clubs}/{x-}

Mike Leah and Yueqi Zhu were both already all in by sixth street when one player in the hand put out a bet and the other raised. The first player called.

On seventh, player 2 bet again and player 1 called. Player 2 showed {8-Spades}{8-Clubs}{K-Hearts} for a full house. Player 1 showed {7-Spades}{5-Spades}{4-Spades} for a six-five low. Leah held {3-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{6-Hearts} for two pair and almost a flush, but nothing to earn him a piece of the pot. Zhu, however, showed {A-Diamonds}{5-Clubs}{6-Spades} and that earned him a quarter of the pot.

That meant that Leah was eliminated from the tournament. Zhu was left with about 4,500 but he was also eliminated just a few hands later.

Scott "BigRiskky" Clements Trying to Go Deep in Two

Nível 8 : 600/1,200, 0 ante
Scott "BigRiskky" Clements playing both events at once.
Scott "BigRiskky" Clements playing both events at once.

Earlier in the day we made mention of several players who were multitabling between this event and Event #47: $565 WSOP.com ONLINE Pot-Limit Omaha 6-Handed. While at first, we mentioned that John Racener was multitabling, it's Scott Clements that's actually the one to watch, going deep in Event #47 and surviving here in Event #46 as well.

Clements has survived through the first eight levels here in Event #46 and while he was doing that, he was busy making it deep in the online event as well, playing under the handle BigRiskky. Clements has built up a stack of 448,033 in that event and currently sits 14 of the 53 players remaining.

Clements will be shooting for the first place prize of $135,078 in that event but he still has some work to do here tonight in this event as well, with two more hours left to play. It would be a truly historic and amazing feat should Clements manage to win an event while playing another at the same time.

Jeff Lisandro: {x-}{x-}/{6-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{9-Spades}{2-Spades}/{x-}

We caught action on sixth street where Daniel Negreanu was first to act. He checked over to Brandon Shack-Harris who put out a bet. Jeff Lisandro then made it two bets. Negreanu called as did Shack-Harris.

On seventh street, Negreanu decided to lead out. Shack-Harris tanked for a bit, then made it two bets before Lisandro made it three bets. Negreanu called and Shack-Harris dropped into the tank again and after a bit he decided to call. Lisandro showed his {A-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{7-Clubs} for a six low. Negreanu showed his {A-Spades}{4-Spades}{5-Diamonds} for a flush and seven low. Shack-Harris double checked his cards then mucked his hand and Lisandro and Negreanu chopped up the pot.

Nicolas Derke: {x-}{x-}/{4-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{K-Hearts}/{x-}

According to Derke, his opponent checked over to him on fourth street, and Derke bet. His opponent then raised and Derke called.

Action was on fifth street when we picked up the action and Nicholas Derke checked it over to his opponent. The player put out a bet and Derke called.

On sixth street, Derke checked and his opponent checked behind. Derke led out on seventh and his opponent raised. Derke then called. Derke showed down his {K-Spades}{K-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} for kings full of fours. His opponent showed {A-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{8-Spades} for two pair as well as an eight-perfect low.

"That's the one you're gonna write?" Derke said upon seeing us behind him. "If you write that hand I'm never gonna get backed again! That's the weirdest hand I played all day."

Derke asked his opponent whether he made aces on fourth or if he made them on seventh. His opponent responded that he made them on fourth street.

David Bach and Frankie O'Dell both hit the rail in this level. O'Dell found himself all in with cards to come in a stud hi-lo hand. O'Dell ended up making a pair of tens, but his opponent hit gin on seventh street to complete a gutshot straight draw and send O'Dell to the rail.

Mike Leah: {x-}{x-}/{5-Spades}{6-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{5-Clubs}/{x-}
Ylon Schwartz: {x-}{x-}/{6-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{10-Hearts}/{x-}

Action was on sixth street upon our arrival at the table with each player having multiple bets already in front of them. Leah was first to act on sixth street and he put out a bet that Schwartz called.

On seventh, Leah bet one more time and Schwartz called one more time. Leah showed down his {5-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} for three fives and it was good for him to get the scoop from Schwartz. With that pot, Leah moves into one of the biggest stacks in the room with over 40,000 already on Day 1 while Schwartz was left shaking his head after the hand.

Joe McKeehen was all in before the flop against two players.

The flop was {2-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{Q-Clubs} and one of the players checked. The player on the button bet and the other player called.

On the {J-Clubs} turn, both players checked to see the {J-Hearts} on the river. There, the player first to act bet and his opponent folded. The player showed his {A-Clubs}{J-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Diamonds} and his three jacks were enough to send McKeehen to the rail.
