Zhu, Ramos and Fuchs to Battle It Out for a Bracelet in $1,500 Mixed Omaha

Nível 30 : 20,000/40,000, 0 ante

Originally scheduled as the closing day, the third 10-level stretch in Event #35: $1,500 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better; Big O (5-Card PLO/8) saw three players make it through. While the tournament hasn't found its champion just yet, there's one huge favourite coming into the extra Day 4: Chinese poker ambassador Yueqi Zhu.

Holding a commanding lead with 4,515,000 in chips, Zhu leads Gabriel Ramos and Carol Fuchs and has 78 percent of all chips in play. Zhu made a strong push on the final table, winning several sizeable pots to establish himself as the overwhelming chipleader.

Zhu seems to be ready to finally close the long saga of narrow misses. The Chinese has been trying to claim a bracelet for two decades. This is the seventh time he's made it to the podium, with his record showing two silver and four bronze medals. Zhu's longevity has been tremendous as he made his first WSOP final table already back in 2006 when he finished second in a $3,000 Limit Hold'em event ($184,409).

Besides Zhu, there's Ramos, who's been flying under the radar so far. Ramos is a first-timer when it comes to World Series of Poker final tables but he has a vast experience from the WSOP Circuit. He guarded a big stack for the better part of the day but Zhu's amazing run in the last two levels saw Ramos relegated to a short stack.

Ramos will continue with only five big bets (970,000) but he's still a favourite over Fuchs who bagged a micro stack of 1.5 big bets (310,000). However, Fuchs already has the major feather in her cap. She won her first gold wristwear back in 2015 when she topped the $1,500 Dealer's Choice event. At that final table, she prevailed among spectacular competition including Robert Mizrachi, Chris Klodnicki and Yuval Bronshtein.

Fuchs will need a quick double or two to catch some air, but anything can happen in this game. Ryan Hughes has experienced it from the other way around. He seemed to have a stellar day in the office, steam-rolling the field to find himself with one-third of all chips in play when the final eight players merged to the last table.

Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes entered the final table as chipleader, but finished in 7th place.

But a drastic change of events followed and Hughes started losing big pots. He hit the skids and couldn't bounce back. Hughes left the tournament in seventh place, a devastating fashion considering his experience and excellent position. That allowed players like Jon Turner to patiently nurse their short stacks and ladder several places on the leaderboard.

Turner squeezed the most of it as he was on a nub for the whole final stage, despite pacing the field during the early levels of Day 3. "Pearljammer" managed to hang around for a few hours and eventually made it to a fifth place, losing his remaining bits to Ramos. Again, Turner misses out on a bracelet, making him one of the longest notable bracelet-hunting players in the world.

It will still be a great story, one way or another. There's an ever-missing veteran, a wild-card from the WSOP Circuit waters and a decorated female champ who will try to make one of the most remarkable comebacks in WSOP history.

With that on the line, it will surely be worth coming back tomorrow (June 19) at 2 p.m. for the live coverage of the three-handed finale. Tune back to PokerNews then to follow the encounter as we crown the champion of the $1,500 Mixed Omaha event.

Matthew Gregoire Eliminated in 4th Place ($62,226)

Matthew Gregoire
Matthew Gregoire

Omaha-8

Gabriel Ramos raised and Matthew Gregoire called. They both saw the {A-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{K-Spades} appear on the flop.

Ramos bet out and Gregoire called. The turn was the {5-Clubs} and Ramos bet enough to put Gregoire all-in and he called.

Gabriel Ramos: {K-Hearts}{K-Clubs}{Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}
Matthew Gregoire: {A-Clubs}{6-Spades}{3-Spades}{2-Clubs}

Gregoire was trailing the set of kings of Ramos but held straight, flush and low draws to either scoop or walk away with half. The river was the {10-Hearts}, bricking everything for Gregoire, and he was eliminated in 4th place.

Jon Turner Eliminated in 5th Place ($44,007)

Omaha-8

Gabriel Ramos limped in and Carol Fuchs completed. Jon Turner gave the dealer a green light and they went three-way to the flop.

Turner led out on the {K-Hearts}{4-Clubs}{6-Hearts} texture and Ramos raised. Fuchs seemed to be interested in seeing the turn for one bet but she didn't like Ramos' raise and folded her hand. Turner and Ramos got the rest of the chips into the middle, prompting a showdown.

Jon Turner: {Q-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{7-Clubs}
Gabriel Ramos: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{5-Spades}

Turner was trailing but he had a solid chance to get ahead of Ramos with a bottom pair and a flush draw. The {2-Clubs} gave him a second flush draw, increasing his outs.

However, the {J-Spades} wasn't one of them. Turner managed to ladder several places, having played a short stack for practically a full stretch of the final table play. He was finally stopped in fifth place, taking home $44,007.

Peter Neff Eliminated in 6th Place ($31,662)

Nível 29 : 15,000/30,000, 0 ante
Peter Neff
Peter Neff

Big-O

Carol Fuchs just sucked out on the river to eliminate Peter Neff.

Neff opened with a raise to 80,000 and Fuchs called the bet to see the {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{Q-Clubs} flop. Fuchs check-called a 100,00 bet on the flop to see the {5-Diamonds} turn and that's where all the chips went in.

Fuchs checked, Neff bet 250,000 and Fuchs put Neff all-in for about 200,000 more. Neff called and the cards went on their backs.

Carol Fuchs: {K-Diamonds}{J-Diamonds}{10-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Peter Neff: {A-Hearts}{K-Spades}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}{X-}

Neff had Broadway and Fuchs needed a ten or a jack for the win, or an ace for the chop. Someone on the rail shouted "Jack!" right as the dealer put down the {J-Spades} river card.

Ryan Hughes Eliminated in 7th Place ($23,182)

Nível 28 : 12,000/24,000, 0 ante
Ryan Hughes
Ryan Hughes

Omaha-8

Ryan Hughes raised from early position and found two customers in Jon Turner (button) and Gabriel Ramos (big blind).

Ramos led out on the {K-Clubs}{Q-Spades}{3-Spades} flop and Hughes raised. It wasn't clear if he was already all in but it didn't matter as Ramos stuffed his chips in simultaneously with Hughes. In the meantime, Turner released his hand.

Ryan Hughes: {A-Spades}{Q-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}
Gabriel Ramos: {A-Hearts}{J-Spades}{9-Spades}{8-Spades}

Ramos had a big draw and while he couldn't complete it, the runout {8-Hearts} and {9-Clubs} gave him two pair while Hughes' hand remained just single-paired.

Hughes had to swallow a bitter pill as he was in possession of third of all chips when the final eight players combined for the last table. He wouldn't eventually squeeze out more than a seventh-place finish.

PLO-8

Peter Neff raised to 68,000 and Nathan Gamble called from the button. Ryan Hughes folded his small blind and Carol Fuchs folded her big blind.

The flop was {9-Hearts}{5-Clubs}{K-Hearts} and Neff asked how much Gamble had behind. The answer was "about half" and Neff bet 150,000. Gamble pushed all-in for about 500,000 and Neff quickly called.

Peter Neff: {A-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{5-Spades}{4-Hearts}
Nathan Gamble: {A-Clubs}{Q-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{3-Clubs}

The board ran out with the {8-Spades} turn and the {9-Clubs} river and Gamble is officially eliminated from the unofficial final table.

Fuchs Scores a Big Double Through Neff

Carol Fuchs
Carol Fuchs

PLO-8

Carol Fuchs limped in from a middle position and her left-hand opponent Peter Neff raised to 90,000 in the hijack. Fuchs was the only player to accept his price and they went heads-up to the flop of {7-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{Q-Spades}.

Fuchs checked to Neff who potted and Fuchs responded with a check-shove worth 343,000. Neff called albeit knowing that he was in a bad shape.

Carol Fuchs: {A-Hearts}{Q-Hearts}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs}
Peter Neff: {8-Diamonds}{2-Spades}{3-Hearts}{8-Clubs}

Fuchs had flopped trip queens and the {2-Hearts} turn and {3-Clubs} river sealed the pot for her as she finished with nut low.

Neff Scores a Gigantic Double to Take the Lead

Nível 26 : 8,000/16,000, 0 ante
Peter Neff
Peter Neff

Big-O

Peter Neff defended big blind against Ryan Hughes' min-raise from the button.

They saw the {K-Spades}{3-Diamonds}{4-Clubs} hit the felt and Neff let Hughes fire another 50,000. Then he check-raised to 175,000 and Hughes asked him how much did he have left. Neff had another 382,000 in front of him and Hughes decided to call.

Neff shoved all in when the {8-Spades} turn appeared and Hughes called.

Neff: {A-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{K-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}
Hughes: {J-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{A-Hearts}{7-Clubs}{7-Hearts}

Hughes found very bad news as Neff had the nut low along with a top-and-bottom two pair hand.

Hughes' chances of getting any piece of the pot were very thin and he wouldn't there on the {Q-Spades} river.

While Hughes took a huge hit and allowed Neff to leap-frog him for the chip lead, he's still sitting on more than 1 million.

Chip Jett Eliminated in 9th Place ($13,114)

Chip Jett
Chip Jett

PLO-8

In the largest pot of the tournament so far, Ryan Hughes cemented his big lead after he clashed with Chip Jett.

Hughes opened the button to 26,000 and called when Jett three-bet to 80,000 out of the big blind.

The dealer spread out a flop of {6-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}{3-Hearts} and Jett continued for 150,000. Hughes reached to his stack and slid forward a tower of chips of the highest denomination to put Jett all-in. Jett didn't really love it but he called after five seconds or so.

Hughes: {5-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{4-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}
Jett: {A-Hearts}{Q-Diamonds}{2-Clubs}{8-Spades}

Hughes flopped a monster draw along with a pair. Jett had the nut low draw and he got there on the {5-Clubs} turn. At that point, the pot was about to be chopped but the river was a lethal {2-Diamonds}, discarding Jett's nut low and giving Hughes the best low hand instead.

Jett left the tournament in ninth place while Hughes is now an overwhelming chip leader, heading to the unofficial final table with over a third of all chips in play.

David Barraclough Eliminated in 10th Place ($13,114)

David Barraclough
David Barraclough

Big-O

With the action picked up on the {Q-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{10-Spades}{10-Diamonds} turn, Chip Jett and David Barraclough pushed their stacks towards the middle.

Barraclough was ahead with {K-Spades}{Q-Hearts}{Q-Spades}{J-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} for a nut full house but Jett wasn't drawing dead just yet as he held the {A-Hearts}{A-Clubs}{6-Clubs}{2-Hearts}{10-Hearts}.

Jett had three outs to win the pot and the river fell {A-Spades}.

"Wow, an ace," the table reacted as Jett indeed hit a bingo. He finished with aces full and leaned forward to reach for Barraclough's piles.
