Wattel Doubles Through Rast

Brian Rast opened for 90,000 and Mike Wattel shoved all in from the big blind for 575,000. After getting the count, Rast made the call. Wattel patted and Rast threw in a {j-}, indicating he was breaking. Wattel showed {9-}{8-}{6-}{4-}{2-}. Rast had a draw to {9-}{6-}{5-}{2-} and said he sweated out a four-side club, so that was that and Wattel doubled.

Sammartino Pats But Folds

Dario Sammartino raised to 90,000 on the button and Brian Rast defended his big blind. Rast took two but came out firing with 190,000 despite Sammartino patting. The Italian threw a {j-} into the middle but mucked.

Rast called. Alexander had a decision and ended up drawing two. Rast stood pat.

"At least I threw away the correct two," said Alexander. He would need to catch good cards to stay alive, but his first card was a {6-}, pairing him, and the second was an {a-}. This sent him to the rail in fourth place for $81,986.

Rast Puts Wattel to the Test

Mike Wattel raised to 90,000 and Brian Rast made it 300,000 in the small blind. Wattel called. Rast patted and Wattel took a card. Rast checked and Wattel bet 325,000. After about two minutes, Rast moved all in for about 1 million effective.

"I wasn't bluffing," Wattel said.

He nonetheless mucked, adding, "the fanciest play of all time."

As a consequence of the pot, Rast moved into the chip lead.

Wattel checked and Sammartino bet 145,000. Wattel then moved all in for 585,000 and after a long time in the tank, Sammartino called.

Wattel showed {8-}{6-}{5-}{4-}{2-} and beat the {10-}{6-}{4-}{3-}{2-} of Sammartino to double up in one of the first hands after the dinner break.
