Welcome to Day 2 of Event #7 $1,500 Seven-Card Razz here at the 2014 World Series of Poker at the Rio All-Suite Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. What started wit 352 runners is down to the final 75, and one of them is none other than 13-time bracelet winner Phil Hellmuth, who begins the day sixth in chips.
Hellmuth won his twelfth bracelet in this very event two years ago, and now he's eyeing up his fourteenth along with what will be his record 101st cash if he makes it to the top 40. That is the mark to hit if players hope to take home a portion of the $475,200 prize pool, but of course everyone wants the $121,196 and gold bracelet awaiting the winner.
There's no doubt Hellmuth is hungry for it, but he'll face some stiff competition this afternoon including Fabio De Francesco, who beings the day as chip leader with 66,700 leading the way. Not far behind is Jordan Siegel, who bagged up 61,100; while Matt Waxman (42,300), Jared Koppel (41,700), and Kevin Iacofano (40,400) round out the top five.
Others returning to action are Huck Seed (28,000), Randy Ohel (22,600), Ali Eslami (19,200), Dan Kelly (17,900), Berry Johnston (17,500), Brandon Cantu (9,100), and the defending champ Bryan Campanello (7,000). Campanello is on an extreme short stack, so he'll face an uphill battle if he hopes to defend his title.
We actually caught up with Campanello on Day 1 to talk about his title defense. Have a listen.
Day 2 will get underway in just over an hour and the plan is to play through the money bubble on the way to the final table, or at least as close as we can get in ten one-hour levels. The PokerNews Live Reporting Team will be here every step of the way to capture the action, so stay tuned.
