Gualter Salles leads the field into Day 2

It was a fast and furious day at the office yesterday in Event #33: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em when the field of 1,688 participants was whittled down all the way to 115 only after 11 levels of play. The bubble burst at the very end of level 10 with two players sharing the min-cash of $2,005, then another 55 participants would hit the rail and head for the cashier before the night concluded.

Gualter Salles from Brazil has accumulated the most chips thus far with 170,000, while Sebastien Comel resides in second place (151,300) and Brad Libson in third (127,400) completes the overnight podium. Other familiar faces on the poker circuit got through the day with decent stacks as well, with Vinny Pahuja (121,200), Goran Mandic (110,000), Sean Jazayeri (101,300), and Dutch Boyd (93,600) all in the top 10.

Martin Finger started with just 10 big blinds after entering late at the dinner break, but succeeded in spinning that up to an above average stack by the end of Day 1, with Faraz Jaka another familiar face with decent chips as well. Further notables still alive include Dan Kelly (63,700), Ali Eslami (57,900), Pierre Neuville (43,200), Matt Glantz (39,700), Xuan Liu (39,200), Event #23: $1,000 Turbo No-Limit Hold'em sixth-place finisher Anthony Gregg (37,300), and David Peters (36,500).

All players already have $2,369 guaranteed for their efforts, but everyone is looking for the golden bracelet and first-place payout of $288,744. The second day will most likely either play 10 levels of 60 minutes each or until the official final table of nine has been reached. Play begins at 1 p.m. local time, so be sure to stick with PokerNews as we find out together who makes the final day of Event #33!

Play resumes at 1 p.m. Las Vegas time in the Amazon purple section with blinds at 600-1,200 and an ante of 200, PokerNews will be there to bring you all the dramatic action from the tables. The full redraw for day 2 can be found here.

Standley Scoops Massive Pot to Knock Out Comel

Nível 12 : 600/1,200, 200 ante
Shelby Standley
Shelby Standley

With a huge pot to start the day the player second in chips to begin Level 12 has been eliminated.

Sebastien Comel raised from middle position and Shelby Standley only flatted in the small blind. The {K-Hearts}{A-Diamonds}{4-Hearts} flop saw Standley bet 4,000, Comel raise to 11,000, and Standley call. The {6-Diamonds} turn brought another bet from Standley, this time just called by Comel.

On the {A-Spades} river, Standley bet 18,000, Comel moved all in, and Standley called. Comel had but {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds} for busted straight and flush draws, while Standley had a monster with {A-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} for a full house. Comel is suddenly out, while Standley has jumped into the chip lead.

Jazayeri Upsets Finger

Nível 13 : 800/1,600, 200 ante
Martin Finger

We didn't catch the full action but witnessed a massive pot going on on Table 440. Sean Jazayeri filled us in with the details of the betting sizes and said with a smile on the face, "And then I used my experience to hit a set on the turn." We should remember that one for the next time we play a tournament.

So what exactly happened? There was a raise to 4,200 and Jazayeri called, Martin Finger then three-bet to 14,200 out of the big blind and only Jazayeri called. On the {J-Clubs}{4-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop, Finger continued for 15,500 and the WPT champion elected to call. After the {9-Hearts} turn, Finger bet 35,000 and Jazayeri moved all in for 89,900.

His opponent from Germany called rather quickly and showed {K-Hearts}{K-Diamonds} but it was only second best to the {9-Clubs}{9-Diamonds} of Jazayeri. The river was the {10-Hearts} and that didn't help Finger, abruptly interrupting his decent start.

David Olmsted opened under the gun for 12,000 and Dave McAfee moved all in for 34,000 more. It folded back round to Olmstead who shrugged and made the call but was happy to see McAfee’s cards.

McAfee: {j-Spades}{8-Spades}

Olmstead: {a-Diamonds}{10-Spades}

The board ran out {q-Hearts}{9-Clubs}{8-Clubs}{5-Hearts}{j-Diamonds} and there was a flicker of hope in McAfee’s body language when he paired his jack. but Olmstead had rivered the straight.

Chad Dixon opened for 13,000 and Robert Schulz moved all in for 51,000. It got back round to Dixon who had the bet counted down and pondered for a while which seemed to irritate Schultz when he called and turned over {j-Spades}{j-Hearts}. Schultz tabled {a-Diamonds}{q-Hearts} and was the player at risk.

The cards fell {6-Clubs}{9-Hearts}{6-Diamonds}{3-Spades}{6-Spades} and the jacks held to eliminate Schulz.

After the previous lost coin-flip, Collin Cheung moved all in and found a caller in Paul Cogliano. Cheung had {Q-Hearts}{9-Hearts} and Cogliano had that beat preflop with the {A-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}. The {7-Hearts}{A-Hearts}{6-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{K-Clubs} board didn't run out without a sweat, but ultimately, Cogliano held up and sent Cheung to the rail.

The action folded to Paul Cogliano and he moved all in out of the small blind. Shelby Standley, who had just recently been moved to the table, called all in for what looked like 75,000.

Showdown:
Cogliano: {Q-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}
Standley: {A-Hearts}{K-Clubs}

The short-stack was ahead, but the {9-Diamonds}{J-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} flop gave Cogliano the lead. After the {7-Spades} turn, Standley was asking for a 10, before realizing that it wouldn't help him. The {5-Hearts} river completed the board and Standley headed to the payout desk to collect his $8,446.

Simon Tse - 23rd
Simon Tse - 23rd

Simon Tse opened from early position and Dutch Boyd took his time making a decision.

Tse had been check-raising Boyd frequently today and showing him bluffs. Boyd went for the three-bet and Tse moved all in. Boyd instantly called.

Boyd: {a-Hearts}{a-Spades}

Tse: {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}

“Nice hand,” Tse said and stood up.

The board ran out {9-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{5-Spades}{3-Clubs}. Boyd had Tse covered and he was out.
