Doug Polk won Event #23: $1,000 Turbo No-Limit Hold'em, a World Series of Poker gold bracelet, and $251,969. Polk, perhaps better known as “WCGRider” in the online world, defeated 1,472 runners to claim his first WSOP title.

Before this event, Polk only had four cashes at the WSOP, totaling $78,192. Although Polk has won millions online, he had just over $1,000,000 in career live earnings and his best previous cash was a fourth-place finish earlier this year in the Aussie Millions Main Event for $770,237.

Polk defeated Andy Philachack heads-up to claim the title. On Hand #109, Polk raised to 120,000 and Philachack called from the big blind. The flop came {10-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{3-Spades} and both players checked. The turn was the {3-Diamonds} and Polk bet 155,000 after Philachack checked. Philachack made a minimum raise and Polk made the call.

The river was the {J-Spades} and Philachack moved all in. Doug Polk snap-called while standing up, tabling a straight with {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. A dejected Philachack turned over {5-Hearts}{3-Hearts} for turned trip threes, and his tourney run ended in second place.

The final table was headlined by The End Boss, Anthony Gregg. Gregg was eliminated on the 16th hand in sixth place by Andy Philachack.

Gregg raised from under the gun to 40,000 leaving himself with just 5,000 behind. Philachack made the call from the button and Chad Cox called from the big blind.

The flop came {k-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}{8-Spades}, Cox and Gregg checked to Philachack who bet 50,000. Cox folded and Gregg put the last of his chips in with {5-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, which was well behind Philachack's {k-Spades}{j-Hearts}. Gregg would pick up some hope with the {q-Clubs} on the turn, but the {q-Spades} river would not be the club he needed, and Gregg was eliminated in sixth place for $40,168.

The eliminations came swift and hard as Andrew Mackenzie (9th Place - $17,857), Dash Dudley (8th Place - $23,093), Gianluca Cedolia (7th Place - $30,252) and Gregg were all busted within the first 16 hands. Liam Alcock was the next to go in fifth place earning $54,088. Chad Cox busted in fourth place taking home $73,894, and Jonathan Hanner was the third-place finisher, walking away with $102,503.

Notables making the money were Amanda Baker, who bubbled the final table, Rhys Jones, Nam Le, Christophe De Meulder, Erik Cajelais, Dan Harrington, Jonas Mackoff, Justin Zaki, Griffin Benger, Scott Montgomery, Ryan Riess and Aaron Steury.

The fastest event of the series drew a large field of professionals who could not make the money, including Liv Boeree, Greg Raymer, Loni Harwood, Moshin Charania, Tony Dunst, Vanessa Selbst, Allen Cunnigham, Jonathan Roy, Xuan Liu, Sorel Mizzi, Jason Duval, Ryan Hall, Mark Radoja, Joseph Cheong, Olivier Busquet, Brandon Cantu, Phil Laak, Will Failla and Scott Clements.

Hand #90: Andy Philachack opened for 100,000 and Jonathan Hanner moved all in for approximately 500,000 total. Philachack stood up, perched himself on his knees in his chair. After some profound thought, he made the call.

Hanner: {A-Spades}{3-Spades}
Philachack: {Q-Diamonds}{10-Diamonds}

The flop was a monster for Philachack, as it came {K-Diamonds}{10-Clubs}{5-Diamonds} to give him middle pair with a flush draw. The turn was the {7-Clubs} and Hanner would need the {A-Clubs} or {A-Hearts} to stay alive. The river gave Philachack a flush - the {8-Diamonds} - and Hanner was eliminated in third place. Doug Polk enters heads-up play with a slight chip lead over Philachack.

Hand #39: Chad Cox moved all in from the small blind for 270,000 and Doug Polk made the call.

Cox: {A-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}
Polk: {Q-Spades}{J-Spades}

Cox was ahead but the flop would change that quickly as it came {J-Hearts}{9-Diamonds}{2-Spades} to give Polk a pair of jacks. The turn was the {3-Hearts} changing nothing. The river then brought the {7-Spades}, and Polk knocked out Cox in fourth place.

Hand #21: Liam Alcock raised to 51,000 when it was folded to him on the button and Andy Philachack made the call from the small blind. The flop came {9-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}{2-Hearts} and Philachack asked Alcock how much he had behind before leading out for 100,000. Alcock folded and Philachack picked up the pot.

Hand #22: Philachack opened for 55,000 from the button and picked up the blinds and antes.

Hand #23: Alcock opened for 52,000 from under the gun. Doug Polk in the big blind reraised all in and Alcock snap-called for his last 332,000. The players turned over their hands:

Polk: {A-Clubs}{K-Clubs}
Alcock: {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds}

The flop came {J-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{3-Clubs} to give Alcock top set. The turn was the {8-Hearts} and Polk said "that's not good for me."

The river was good for him though as it was one of his four outs — the {Q-Clubs}. Polk ran over to his rail, giving one of his friends a huge embrace as Alcock was eliminated in fifth place. "So sick," said Polk as he sat down.

Hand #11: Andy Philachack opened for 45,000 and picked up the blinds and antes.

Hand #12: Gianluca Cedolia moved all in for 116,000 from the small blind and Doug Polk called from the big blind.

Cedolia: {A-Diamonds}{2-Spades}
Polk: {Q-Clubs}{8-Hearts}

Cedolia was at risk and ahead with his ace-high. The flop of {Q-Hearts}{J-Hearts}{7-Diamonds} would change that, though, moving Polk into the lead with a pair of queens. The turn and river were the {4-Diamonds} and {5-Diamonds}, respectively, and Cedolia was eliminated in seventh place.

Nível 23 : 10,000/20,000, 3,000 ante
Andrew Mackenzie - 9th place
Andrew Mackenzie - 9th place

Hand #1: Doug Polk opened to 43,000 and picked up the blinds and antes. Andy Philachack smiled and said "take it down Doug" and Polk responded "you got the goods, you got the goods" as the dealer pushed him the pot.

Hand #2: Andy Philachack opened to 43,000 from the hijack and Andrew Mackenzie called from the big blind. The flop came {8-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and Mackenzie checked. Philachack bet 50,000 and Mackenzie moved all in for 218,000 total. Philachack made the call and the crowd was stunned when the hands were turned over:

Mackenzie: {10-Spades}{9-Diamonds} — an open-ended straight draw
Philachack: {J-Spades}{10-Clubs} — a gut-shot straight draw and two overs

Philachack was actually ahead with his jack-high and it would stay that way when the turn was the {7-Diamonds} and the river was the {2-Diamonds}. Mackenzie failed to improve and was eliminated in ninth place.

Philachack stood up, put his hands in the air and said "it's still a turbo guys" and cautioned Doug Polk to not steal his blinds. "I'm not afraid to call with jack-high," he said with a grin.
